Dq 8 By End Of Year Says Composer

Recommended Posts

From IGN.com

August 11, 2004 - Dragon Quest VIII will arrive to Japan before the end of the year, according to Kouichi Sugiyama, the game's composer. In a speech following a Japanese concert that highlighted classic titles such as Dragon Quest III and Dragon Quest V, the legendary composer shared some thoughts on his composition work for what may end up being this generation's biggest title in Japan.

Regarding the state of Dragon Quest VIII's music, Sugiyama stated, "Composition on new songs for Dragon Quest VIII has been completed." Following a joke that the amount of music he's had to compose would stretch two to three kilometers if lined up together, Sugiyama continues, "This isn't to mean that everything is finished. From here out it's going to be tough. We have to change the music into the PS2 source format and make adjustments."

Sugiyama seems to have hope of DQVIII seeing Japanese release before the end of the year, though. Later in his speech, he states "From here on, we'll be working hard for a release at the end of the year. This statement seems to further pinpoint a Japanese release date for the title from this Winter (which could conceivably mean a release early next year) to some time around December.

As for American release, we'll start drilling Square Enix on the matter once the Japanese version is in our hands.
