What's the best game in the DW series?

Recommended Posts

I agree with DW7 being the best. The vast number of monsters (awesome because you can collect them), skills/spells, jobs, and side quests along with the having the longest storyline of the series. I loved the fact that jobs masteries were combined to unlock a new job. I was really disappointed when this wasn't expanded upon.

But DW3 is the most nostalgic for me.

Well Dq3(snes) gets my vote for best, though I felt that the remake should have not just had spells but also could have been even better with abilities like Dq6 and Dq7(not like Dq8 and Dq9). Plus the Pachisi Track is my favorite mini game of the series,

and perhaps the overall nostalgia gives me a biased opinion as well.

I would say Dq7 would be second best because of the class based ability system and overall length of the game. I also like that it was comprised of many mini stories.

Sorry guys, 2 is my favorite! I always wanted to make a game that plays on the story after this one. I logged the most hoours on DQ3 for GBC. Those pesky medals ruined my life!

I have all most all the Classic Dragon Warriors and most of the Dragon Quest games and my Vote is For Dragon Quest 8

Dragon Quest IX's quickly becoming one of my favorites in the series, but as far as the games before it go, third time's the charm for me. I always loved Dragon Warrior III's class system, as well as the debut of some of my favorite recurring enemies, including Kandar/Robbin' Hood, roguenites/restless armours, canniboxes, jewel bags, bomb crags/rockbombs, and boss trolls.

I'm going with DW4. My first experience with the games, the one I cut my teeth on, lol. So I'm going to stay faithful to it!

Its a tough decision but in my opinion i would have to say either 8, 9, or 5 but those are just my faves lol :goofyslime:

I see a lot of people saying they like 7 because of the vast number of classes and monsters, does it have more classes then 9? Cause i haven't beaten 7 but its hard to imagine any of the other 8 games having more post game content then 9 there's just so much

Well, there are 54 classes in Dragon Warrior 7, so yeah, that's a few more than DQ9 has . As for other side-quest content you've got:

1) A pioneer town with many intermediate forms to plunder and four different possible "final forms".

2) 3 Casinos with lots of great gear and other prizes

3) Power Contest

4) Intelligence Contest

5) Style Contest

6) More than 110 Tiny Medals and 11 tiers of prizes for collecting them

7) A monster park where you can "recruit" monsters to go and live there. Every monster in the game is recruitable (except for bosses) and you must build the park by finding 8 different blue prints around the world

8) Four different possible paths through the final dungeon to the final boss, each with different monsters and unique and valuable treasures

9) Two bonus dungeons that require a lot of mysterious shards in order to unlock

So there is no shortage of stuff to do. I am probably forgetting a couple things too.

Well, there is a bit of overlap between some of them, but for the most part, you just get a hell of a lot of skills. I don't think they're useless. And some of the most useful ones are monster classes that a lot of people don't even bother with.

To make it a little extra complicated, there are hybrid skills you can learn by mastering two classes in a sequence. So for example, if you master the warrior class and then the dancer class, you get the really useful skill "sword dance". Then if you want to get the "Rob Dance" hybrid skill you can master the thief class next!

Dang maybe ill take a break from the ds version of IV and start up where i left off on VII again. With all the post game stuff you listed to it seems like there's a lot of intention to do level up/ play those classes, sounds exciting. I always knew people said it was along game and i never doubted it cause i was about 10 hrs into the game and i had people telling me i was barely through 5% of the game but dang...the post game stuff is...filling lol

You won't regret picking it up again. I don't recommend taking a long break from it midway though, as people tend to forget what the hell they were doing. If you don't write it down, you can very easily lose sight of what you were in the middle of. Of course skimming through a walk-through can get you back up to speed.

I have been playing the Dragon Quest III SNES (translated) version lately on my computer and my first thought was WOW how come Enix never translated this? But I haven't had much time to play other then on the week ends because I have college classes monday - thursday.

I have noticed Jesters have some new "useless" moves but they do learn Whistle. Pachisi Tracks are are fun to play (yeah it's cheap to abuse save states but) I am playing with a seven character party...

I've played 1, 2, 3, and 4 for nes and 7 on ps1. I liked the nes ones the best but I may not have played through enough of 7 though to fully appreciate it. It was a while ago so I don't really remember. I Probably had too much going on at the time or other games keeping me busy.

I would have to say the best one is DW3, then DW1, then DW2, and finally DQVIII. I liked 3 because it offered the choice of classes, DW1 well because it started the whole thing and I think it was one of the best early RPGs. DW2 because it had the three heroes which was fun. DQVIII becuase of the alchemy and monster arena. I really love DQIX but didn't want to pick this because it so popular right now and its a new game.

Have you played 4 - 7? Just curious because I noticed you didn't mention them at all in your ranking.

Dunno if I can really talk here since I have played most games games of the series but I've finished only 4 wich are DQ Monsters,DQM Joker and the DS Remakes of IV and V.

Amongst them I liked DQM (wich sure has a memorial bonus since I first played when I was 12) and V wich had a great story and great charackers.

Wow, who dug this thread up? Hard to say but leaning towards DWVII, followed either by VIII or III.

I'm loving IX, but am annoyed that it can't be played on a larger screen (sorry, but my eyes are getting old).

In converse to everyone else, my least favorite is IV. I could have done without the remake, but at least it got the ball rolling for V (and hopefully VI).

It's a three way tie for me:

DW2, DQ5, and DQ8

Second place also has a tie: DW1, DW3, and DW7

I guess if I put nostalgia aside and was forced to pick just ONE, it would probably be DQ5 on the SFC.

I have love for every DQ/DW, but my least liked were 6 and 4. I still don't get why everyone froths at the mouth over 4.

Of the side games, the best was DQM:Joker and the worst was oddly enough DQM:J2. Rocket Slime was great too, but I really loved Joker 1.

May I ask what you didn't like about 6? Just curious as I have been focusing on that game a bit lately.
