What's the best game in the DW series?

Recommended Posts

;) Also, add to the fact that Dragon Quest VI's class system was a lot smaller than VII's was and had fewer skills that had the same effects. That's what made that game a little shorter and the lack of a Second Bonus dungeon was another.

I've only played 1 to 4 (the first three on both NES and GBC).

DW1 was great for its day, a bit too easy by today's standards.

DW2 was blah. Story sucked, and the partyhad to stop and level madly at the end.

DW4 was okay, except that it was too linear.

DW3 was the best, imo Good story, lots of flexibility, kept interest.

The GBC version of DW3 was even better, with lots more interesting things to do.

I have only played dw 1-3 (all for GBC) and dw7, and by far, I think Dragon Warrior 3 for the GBC was best. I thought Baramos was the end, then realize my surprise when you had to face Zoma, then Divinegon, and then the hidden Monster Medal Dungeon.

Second goes to the first game, because it was simple and had nice replay value. I could just play that game until I die.

Has anyone else played the SNES remake of Dragon Quest 3? Cause thats my pick. I've finished the Game Boy Color remake a few years ago, but when I discovered the ROM for the remake, I fell in love with it all over again.

Probably the best part about the SNES remake, in my humble opinion, is the outstanding music.

I wonder if there is a translated version like 5 and 6? Even if there isn't, I'd definetely recommend it to anyone who loved DW3.

I think the best one is probably DW7.. it's just that my nostalgia drive won't let me say it. I have to go with DW4.

For the NES I vote for DW2 because it countinues right where DW 1 left off I just changed my mind I can't stand DW IV because it is too fricking hard I get through to just about the end of Alena's Adventure/Chapter the part where your at Endor Castle I suck at Gambling in video games and in real life I'm thinking about playing DWII again No offense to the people who like DW IV ok. Not all of DW IV sucks just the casino part I don't like.

No contest. DQ5. It has the most solid storyline of any RPG I have ever seen. I love it!

To me, THAT...not graphics, not spells, not special effects..but the STORYLINE...that is what separates a great RPG from a crappy one.

Dragon Warrior IV is my favorite video game of all time. I always found it interesting to watch Saro turn into Necrosaro. Next would have to be Dragon Quest V & III for good stories.

DW IV was always my favorite.. it's the first one I really got into and I was always addicted to it. I still think the storyline is the best one out of the series, and I think the hero's background is the coolest of all of them. And the development of Necrosaro was awesome.

DW8 and DW3 come second and third, with DW7 fourth...

... I loved DW7 when i played it last year because it was the first DW game in a LONG time that I had played. I could never get my hands on 5 and 6, though i was always anticipating them since I first played DWIV.

Dragon Warrior III is my all time favorite Dragon Warrior game... However VIII might be able to take its place. Part IV ranks a close second.

I've only played two. DW3 and DWM2. I recently got a used copy of DWM1 but I haven't really played it. (the guy who had it before me sucked at personality training)

Favorite? *points at sig*

I've beaten the first 3 and played the first 20 hours of VII.

I really enjoy VII aside from some tedious gameplay elements, but otherwise it's very nice. III gets my vote though, since I don't feel like nominating a game I haven't beaten. III takes all the good elements from earlier games, adds a class system and so on.

Hmmm...I've played & beaten DQ1, played some of DQII & III, IV, most of DQV, and am playing through DQVIII. My favorite thus far is DQVIII. Yangus is just too funny with..."COR BLIMEY!"

Hello all. It must have been a long while since i've posted in this topic. Again I will say none of them has had quite the same feel as the original had. So DW 1 is still my favourite but 5 did have by far the best story line. DW2 was the most difficult, 3 the most epic, 4 the most polished (damn AI - lol), 7 the longest and 6 the most ... well I never finished it. And as for DQ8..... I still haven't played it ! Bought it 10 am the morning of its release and still its not seen the inside of a PS2. It's a crime. One day I will play it though, one day

DWM2 followed by DW7 :D

Without going back and reading 27 pages of posts, I believe you're the first to find a DWM game the best. I enjoyed both games, and I'm really looking forward to any others that get translated or released in the US.

Undoubtly, DQ7 is my favorite: For being the longest one, for the innovation of how to unveil new lands while returning to the old days with the "the hero, the friends and adventure through lands of unknown" premise, for the emotive, sad, strange and heartrending stories that you come across in your adventure, the jobs, the sidequests, the travels in time, the whole religious thing about the existence of god and the epitaph of Kiefer at the end of the game that I'll remember forever  .

The second one, is a tie-up: 5 and 6 offer things so different between them to make a solid decision. DQ5 has a better storyline, the life of a hero since he was born up to his bride and passing the starring hat to his children through hardships, to avenge his father (man, I was about to explode when I killed Mildrars). I loved to fight alongside with monsters that growed, gained levels and spells as a human character.

DQ6 is more nostalgic, oniric and dreamish experience due to the storyline based on dreams, forgotten memories and the adventure that is the response to a question that is repeated many times in the game: "Who I am, and where I came from?". There are surprises in the storyline department, like when you find about the "Dream World" where everyone exists twice, or when you find about the true nature of the hero, the dreams about defeating Mudoh, the sound of the ocarina echoing, the dark world that represents the dark side of the human race such as the greed, jealousness, despair... a whole gaming experience.

And DQ3, as being the last "classical" DQ game out there. "Yo kid, go save the world" and the rest up to you. I love to make my way through a world full of caves, towers, castles and towns to explore by my own feet (even if they are not related to the main storyline), a typical but very epic adventure, one in where questioning people about secrets and rumors is vital for advancing since you have no video sequences and nobody teachs you where to go next, with many funny moments like when you become king of Romaly, the fairy spring, and the personality issue from the beggining was a great idea. And I have to say that revisiting Alefgard before DQ1 and DQ2 was an amazing surprise, the Loto arc may not be very deep in terms of storyline but is well written, the profecy about "a hero that came of another world, wielding the light orb that slain the evil lord and made the peace return to the land...". Moreover, when you enter Alefgard you have no map of it and you can't fly. It's a comeback to the exploration basis if you ask me.

And as a spin off, but not for that being the worst... I'll choose DQM, cause it was the first DQ I played, and thanks to that, playing the true games became a funnier experience, identifying monsters, locations, musics and scenes from DQMonsters. The breed thing almost absorbed me (I was a hardcore Pokémon fan in that time and I found that feature pretty impressive), as well the bestiary. DQM2 is definitely more polished, but I like DQM better because it was my first DQ game.

I haven't played IV yet, and I'm currently on VIII. Let's see if my ranking changes after beating these two.

And that's it :P hope you liked it.

Honestly, DW1 was a classic... but far from my favorite...

DW4 was the best NES game I every played hands down.

DW7 has to be my favorite so far... I STILL haven't done everything in that game...

DQ8 so far seems pretty awesome... better looking than VII but i agree with the person who posted about not having it be as fun to customize characters...

So... the winner is... DW VII (for now... i'll maybe change this after i'm done with VIII)

Well my Favorite Dragon Quest/Warrior games would be IV and V, and also III as well(depending on my mood), but usually the heaven series of games I seem more interested in, just makes it more adventurous.

Mine would have to be Dragon Quest III. I loved I and II when they first came out, but DQIII just blew me away at the time. It and Final Fantasy IV are tied as my favourite RPGs of all time. Dragon Quest VII is also up there.

I'm sure Dragon Quest VIII will by my favourite too. I've been drooling over videos and screenshots since they first surfaced. I got it for Christmas and was insanely excited, but before I could do anything other than wander around the first town and admire the graphics my PS2 broke. When it happened it was like a kick in the face since it had been my most anticipated RPG since FFX four years prior.

I'm getting a new PS2 in two weeks, though, so don't be surprised if I edit this post to gush about it!
