Best/Worst Music in DQ7

Recommended Posts

What are everyone's thoughts of the soundtrack of DQ7? I find it a failry even split between quality and far to whimsical for my tastes.

Favourite Track- Memories of a lost world (fits the past scenarios perfectly)

Least Favourite-Magic Carpet (Makes me want to spew/auto-prolapse, woodwind section...stop...please)

DQ7 actually has my favorite DQ soundtrack. My favorite song is Echo of Horns Throughout the Castle. I literally can not think of a song to pick for least favorite.

An honorable mention to the song Feverish, which is only in the PS1 version of the game. It's such a fun piano track.

Echo of horns is awesome, regal/baroque as. I love the soundtrack expect for a select few tracks, may be related to a bit of burnout with the length, still an awesome game/soundtrack though.

I will have to suss out that track, yet to play the ps1 version.

Dragon Quest VII has my favorite DQ soundtrack, but picking a single favorite is REALLY tough. My gut instinct is to pick “Moving Through the Present,” since it reflects that triumphant feeling of making the world grow through your efforts in the past.

Least favorite...probably “Saraband.” I don’t think the song is bad, and it does fit in castle environments dealing with tough situations, but it’s not a song I would go to for a sad sounding piece.

Also, not a fan of its placement in the Symphonic Suite CDs. Putting it after the “Overture” and “Morning in Eden” is kind of a buzzkill with how those songs sound. And then immediately after “Saraband” is “Echo of Horns...” which is just another total mood whiplash!

Agreed, the symphonic ost seem's to be rife with the whole mood whiplash thing, that being said, it is on repeat for my morning drive to work.  "Morning in Eden" is a great track, I can never place where I heard it in the game though, presumably very early on? It is such a long experience and I can not recall placement of tracks that are not used frequently..except for 'Triumpal Return', there was mad sense of accomplishment when that played.

“Morning in Eden,” was the song used for the opening cinematic on the PS1 version. Apparently it was in the files of the 3DS version and was presumably going to play during the opening overview of Estard Island, but it wasn’t used in game at all.

That explains it, another reasons to give the psx version a shot.

No shots for the English PS1 title. It's not 21 yet.

I've looked all over, including my own collection, and I cannot find Feverish anywhere.  Shame Zophar's Domain *hack*gutsspillingout*cough* is the only place with PSF files to play on site.  I know I downloaded them awhile back when they were available on the once largest site collection of PSF files (which is long since defunct , and that rip, unlike the current one, had actual track names), but I can't find it amongst my discs.  Though at least there is the unnamed PSF rip of DW7.

Is it the piano theme when playing slots when the slots goes into overdrive, and those special bonus rounds trigger?

As per the actual topic...hard to say, as I too find myself having trouble picking a single bad theme.  I feel this is the magnum opus in the DQ verse, where Sugiyama really gave it his last true masterpiece, and made a perfect score that fits the game tone at every juncture.

I guess I'd have to say Orgo Demira is my favourite, and my third favourite boss theme after Kefka in FF6, and Zoma in DQ3 as my respective 1st and 2nd favourites.

Yes, that is the tune.

Ok cool.  That's the only one I could figure that was removed from the 3DS.  I rather miss that section, what with the bunny girls, and all the oddities that pop up.  I'm glad DQ11's slots tossed in similar random bonuses.  Makes it a more engaging experience.

DQ7 is up there in my top 2 favorite soundtracks in the series! It's SO good! Like the rest of the game tbh. I can't pick just one favorite so I'm gonna mention 4: Fighting Spirit (the regular battle theme), and the three sad songs: To my loved ones, With sadness in heart, and Days of sadness. The sad songs were also my highlights in II (my top 1 DQ soundtrack), III and V.

I also loved the mysterious sanctuary's theme, Place of stopped time. I didn't play the PS1 version, so I only know it's sped-up 3ds version.

As for least favorite, nothing particular comes to mind so I think I'll go with the casino song. I just don't like casino songs despite loving some of the casino minigames, so yeah im picking that.

Fighting spirit is fantastic, the track holds up even after countless replays. Love the melancholy songs you mentioned to, the soundtrack really seems to stand out in that sense in comparison to the other games. Not knocking the other OST's either, they are great in their own right.

Fair choice, I still have flashbacks of all the save-scumming I did in the casino when i hear the track.

Orgo Demira is pretty badass. Ahhh, Dancing Mad, probs the best track from FF6. The distant worlds orchestration/rendition of it is great as well . Gotta respect your choices hey, a pretty damn solid top 3 soundtracks/games.
