No way. Next thing you’ll tell us is that metal monsters give a lot of experience points.

I think this statement holds true for every DQ game except DWM 1&2.

They run away enough that it evens out to 'not that much'

Nonsense.  The golden bunny god rare monster that appears after visiting every island both forwards and backwards in time (clockwise, then counterclockwise), then defeating a metal slime with a non-weapon crit from the Hero wearing nothing, and with his inventory except for the following items in this order; a Cypress Stick, Plain Clothes, Pot Lid, and Bandana.

Be warned, the golden bunny god has 3 HP, but will dish out 800~1000 damage per hit, and has an evasion rate of 15/16, and a 90% run chance per round.  It can also cast Kazapple at full power.  Once triggered, it can appear at a 3% rate per round, when encountering Spiked Hairs.

I need that bunny suit recipe.

Um, you do realize that's a Casino recipe, right?

So here's the trick.  Spend about 10k gold on Casino Tokens, then SAVE at the church before spending a cent.

If you don't have 10k coins, the easy route at the moment is going to be a tad slow, but effective, and you'll get a ton of pearls.  Zoom to the Emerald Coast campsite, or if you're in 2D mode, just get there by ship.  If you don't have the Zoom, then proceed to return there by ship, it's just East of Costa Valor.

At the campsite, trigger a camping scenario, then speak to the merchant and buy an equal amount of Hardy Hide and Flurry Feather.  Then save and attempt to forge Feather Caps.  At your present level (which should be around 20), it should be very easy to get +3.  This is also good general practice if you're not good at Forging, and you'll get a good number of Pearls in the process.

Sell the Feathered Caps.  A bit later in the game, you'll be able to buy Silver Ore, and make Silver Rapier's for the same thing, only a higher return.  There are a few others, but I don't feel like working out the logistics.  You can do it yourself, it isn't a lot, but there are definitely more Forging items where +2 and 3 sell for more than the cost of materials, and materials can be purchased.

Keep buying and making until you hit about 10k Gold.  Should take about 20~30 minutes if you're good, 1 hour or a bit over if you're a little rusty or not as familiar with the forge.

====

Another option is to use the Tombola Ticket mini-game.  This is a special item you'll find in the Casino, on the floor near the West bar, just near the entryway.

You can replay it infinitely, and with some luck, you'll hit 10k Gold in no time, if your luck is bad, it might take awhile, but anywhere between 5 minutes and 2 hours, depending.

====

You could also farm enemies for this, just kill in places that are easy.  The Champs Sauvage is a decent spot, and do so while gathering forge materials from material spawning spots.

====

Now back to the casino.  With your tokens and saved game, enter the casino and play slots or poker, and make sure to play Double or Nothing if you're going the poker route.  Might help to use the bunny girl at the upper left in 2D, and I think it's a witch in 3D, but the female that gives you your fortune in where you'll have the best odds.  This "prediction" is accurate, but only on the first initial prediction when you enter the casino.  If you ask her a second time, it's less accurate.  So for a new prediction, leave the casino and return to reset the "seed" value for your RNG.

Do note that you might have some ill luck up front, but if you do, it would be worse in the other games.

Slime Slots isn't impacted by this prediction algorithm, but there is a bunny girl NPC that does track the success rate of Slime Slot machines (a 3D only slot game).  This success tracker is very accurate, but it's a crazy slot game, and don't expect to win much over time, but it is fairly consistent for winnings.

If you prefer normal slots, playing on auto-pilot is often best, especially after you've already won 10,000 tokens.  If you're playing Switch, you could connect a turbo Horii controller and go to town on slots.  If you're playing Steam, there are some auto-key functions unique to Steam, that you could employ to auto-play.  If you're playing PS4, there's an auto-function for that as well, but it requires either getting a turbo controller, or linking through your computer and playing remotely, then setting up an auto-key press.

For slots and 10k tokens, you can either play 1 token poker, and bet a full 10, then play double or nothing to just over 100 each time, and cash in, rather than risk the next bet.  Then at 3k tokens, move up to 10 token poker, and bet a full 100, and play Double or Nothing until you've won just over 1k before cashing that in.  Then play slots.  Or just play slots and hope you get a good seed at the start, as it's pure RNG, but do so manually until you've won 10k.

Anyway, make sure to save at certain intervals, or use the Auto-save feature by exiting then re-entering the casino.

Once you have 10k, it's best to just automate normal 10 Token slots, and check every now and again.  30 minute checks until you've hit 30k, then 1~2 hours or longer after that.

Play to 1m+.

=====

Now that you can afford the bunny suit recipe from the casino, note you can buy a few other things.  If you want more direct Gold, you can use casino tokens to trade in Mercury's Bandana's.  Slow, steady, and a decent return.

Make sure NEVER to allow your token count to get below 50k.  That's a nice safety net for Act 2, and playing slots again, but on the 100 token machines.  Or playing Poker on the 100 token bet, and carefully assuring your DoN cut off point is about 10k or so, maybe higher if you feel risking it.

Act 2 also has Sage's Elixirs in the second casino.  This is the best resell item in the game for the casino.  There are also a few other forge options.

======

Other Gold making methods in DQ11:

  • Stealing every chance Erik gets, and using whatever you get to forge and resell, or if it's equipment, to NPC sell.
  • With stealing, also a good idea to use farming routes for other materials to augment how many more expensive forges you can do.  Do note this isn't as lucrative as if you figure out the better late-game forges you can buy materials easily, and make at +2 or 3 easily for a profit return.
  • If you're not using the Draconian setting that restricts Armour, farm a ton of Bunny Tails, and equip everyone with them.  Look at your local enemies on every map, and see what drops equipment.  Then equip all gear that boosts drops, including the Bunny Tails (so 2 equipment slots, and there's 1 vest you'll get after a quest, and 3 academy outfits, and in the DE version, 3 upgrade academy outfits with a 2% drop increase rate, instead of a 1%...and Erik gets an accessory that boosts drop chance by a much higher rate than Bunny Tails 1%).  Then farm that equip by just killing and letting the drop boosting gear increase your drops.
  • If you're unable to equip armour, you could also find locations that spawn Drasilian coins, and refarm those (mostly 2D, there are only a VERY small number in 3D), but in this case, Erik + Hero's Itemized Kill Pep Power is very useful, and Erik attempting to steal from anything with equipment in the common drop slot is your best bet outside of the casino and forging + resell.

My problem was that they drop too little gold. I had to grind for an hour to get enough gold to exchange to tokens.

For a DQ game, they drop a lot of gold.

If you are using the forge you'll have an abundance of gold. From the money saved not buying equipment as well as the money earned selling old or extra equipment.

I think a few monsters have higher gold drop rates than others. Goodybags (not sure if I'm nailing the name for this DQ version) and Gold Golems come to mind.

Then again, I don't think I've ever farmed gold in a DQ game so my advice may be crap.
