Thanks a ton for doing this! Big fan of dqmj3p and it works great. I don't know any Japanese and I'm very unfamiliar with 3ds modding but I can most likely update the json with a quick script that uses the google cloud translate api to get just direct google translation of the Japanese for all the missing fields. If I did that would you be willing to redo the patch with those translations? (Or if you could point me in the direction of some sort of documentation converting mes -> json and back)

Machine translation added.

Wow, been playing a lot of the DQM2 English translation (thanks to the Discord team).
Completed the main story and post-game even playing a lot online.
With the 3DS-Update (11.14.0-46) breaking CFW/online play...looking forward to giving this a shot offline.
So for real-3DS hardware (CFW-users), we would need a copy of the DQMJ-3pro ".cia" file to get started with this ?
A bit unclear on how to get started with this.

Instruction for rom patching updated.

Having played the original Joker 3 translation, I just wanna give an heads up to everyone that when doing portals to look for monsters like Malroth, Orgodemir, ect
when you find Zoma the text box is glitched to the point where you can't say yes to battle him (that is if this is the same patch that one used that is) and you can never obtain him though portal hunts because of it.  Besides that, this is really great!  Have you seen the teams working on translating Iru and Luca?  They're planning on potentially working on Joker3Pro later on and I think you getting in touch with them (unless you already know about them) would be really helpful.

I didnt finish the game yet so couldnt test the bug. But you can turn off the translation by deleting mods folder (emu) or use clean unpatched rom

@eiz can you please update your instruction on how to apply the patch?  People literally show up in our discord every week asking how to apply this patch.

Also it wouldn't hurt to provide a link to the original patch I created instead of just say "So I took the non pro version translation"

done

Found an issue when adding your machine translated text. Some monster start the battle dead. This was an issue with the dqmj3 original patch before but was fixed with the latest version. I am not sure but probably your patch made it return. Anyway great job. 😁 This is really not gamebreaking so it's not that bad.

Hi , for me some of the text is in English and some in Japanese. For instance the last two lines in your screenshot (transfering from dqm 2) are in Japanse . Any help how to fix?

Hey, nice work, appreciate it. Probably not possible, but I assume there is no way monster transfer from DQMJ3 to J3P is possible on Citra? Not too much of a bother if not I didn't get TOO far in the DQMJ3 so happy starting from scratch if need be.

Side note, I made a mod of the all the BGM to make it 50% quieter, as it annoyed me how LOUD the battles and background music is, so I drastically reduced its volume so I can better hear the battle sound effects which I quite enjoy (as it's silly there is no audio or music volume controls for the games). You still get BGM but all of it is much quieter so you can hear the environment and battle effects clearer, if anyone wants the files, let me know :).

So I took the non pro version translation & inject it to the pro version because I wanted to play it.

I read that the storyline gets way further in DQM Joker 3 Pro. So the patch is from normal Joker 3. What is then after the "normal" storyline with that patch? all in japanese then?

Edit: Okay, i have start the game now with the patch. I think new monsters and new text´s are in japanese. Even at the start i dont know what i can do with that "frog" when he "joins" me.

I know, fans must translate that game, but i dont get it. I mean, the normal Joker 3 is completly translate, why not professional? I dont mean you Eiz, ty for your work ;)

Edit2: Okay sorry, i was totally stupid.  I have played without the machine update xD TY for that GREAT work!!!

Probably a super long shot, but would there be any way to get the "collaboration" monsters? For example, I assume they are items or disk maps like the DQ10 boss "management terminal Q484", but using citra specifically, i assume there is no way to get the codes to work. So for that, if it's simple an "item" that is required, do we have item codes or item cheat codes or quite simply, monster cheat codes that can just dump monster into the game? Guess it would require a save editor or hex editor so I have slim hopes but thought i'd ask anyway, seeing as we can "Mod" the files at least on PC.

Wow, this rocks, thanks!~

edit:

I just realized I was using the unupdated english patch for dqmj3pro, silly me!!!

Damn, really struggling with one thing. The Nochoro in the top right corner, next to Chomach...he asks about making a Siemeda with HP Recovery skill...but, how? I can't even find the listed skill on any monster. Also, more confusing, he tells you that you can do this by combing a "Druid" with a "Slimy Rabbit" which will allow you to inherit the skill...I am assuming that is poor translation because i can't find a single monster called either of those, no Druid or Slimy Rabbit. Can anyone help figuring out which monsters he is actually talking about and which skill?

I'm guessing druids are the light-yellowish lump wizards found around the north part of the ruined city. The rabbits might be the brown bunnymen in the southern part of the ruined city.

Wow yeah I figured it out in the end...all it needed was to have the healing line ability 😂, that was it, nothing complicated. This guide I found is absolute life saver, has almost everything you need even info on what the scoutQ missions require you to do:  https://a2d4mapz7atnnlx34u6sh3stbu-fe3tvbk6lcbjw-dragon-quest-jp.translate.goog/dqmj3/

Going back to the question about event exclusive disks and monsters...I'm unsure if they can even be obtained without perhaps cheat codes to give "all items" because, with the above example of the Q484, it's just a disc item that triggers a mission, just like the gold/pearl/metal slime discs so, I'll have to dig and see if the AR codes or GS codes work although I'd rather just find a way to add a specific item to the "disc filer" or just to "obtain all discs" somehow.

Hello All. Haven't been here in too long. I was at one point working on a translation guide walkthrough for DQM2, before we had english patches. At that point i was simply translating and posting screenshots in a forum thread, I was in communication with the project team at that time and was going to offer any help i could, but alas life got busy and I had to leave everything for a while.

I am back here because I like to tell everyone that I am working on creating a full English Translation to the Professional version, as its my understanding here everyone has been using the DQMJ3 Standard version patch? I would like to thus create one specifically for this version which includes extra content that wasnt in the original DQMJ3. I have quite a few things finished translated already, i just havent gotten any dialogue translated yet.

I am also considering doing a Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 translation, something i very much wanted to do for a very long time, I would like to create a English Translation that uses the Localization style of the Original Gameboy Color DWM 2 Cobi and Tara Games. Thats kinda what i was trying to do back then with my forum thread. I know its not for everyone, but as someone whose entire love of DQ started from those original DWM games, I really want to bring that back.

I will work on this a bit and post any updates in a new thread for anyone who might be interested in something like that.

May be a cartoon of text that says 'DONT DRAGONQUEST DRAGON MONSTERS Joker PROFESSIONAL DQMジョーカー3 PROFESSIONAL Ver.1.3 Ver. Continue New Game Passing Battle Local Communication Wifi Plaza Move monsters from DQM2 Move monsters from DQMJ :3'

Ambitious!

That'd be cool about DQM:J3Pro!

I know the team working on the DQM2 3D has made a lot of progress and might finish this year. Yours does sound different though as I'm pretty sure they're not localizing with GBC names in mind.

Absolutely would love a full English names walkthrough guide for DQMJ3P! That would be awesome, the above link I posted is great but there is a severe lack of pictures, naming conventions, and more niche details like obtaining special event/monster world discs, if this is even possible without perhaps memory hacking or AR codes...really want the Management Terminal Q484 disc/monster as well as the other event items. Good luck with it :).

  • 5 weeks later...

I've been experiencing an instant crash with this patch when trying to transfer over monsters from DQMJ3 on Citra. I've tested both methods of patching (extracting into the Citra mods folder and patching the actual ROM) and the issue still occurs. The Japanese version works fine and lets me transfer monsters with no issues. I'm using the 1.3 update in both cases.

For anyone who followed these steps to patch Joker 3 Professional, can I check if you’ve noticed any of these issues in the game? Not sure if it matters but I’m playing v1.3 on a 3ds, and I’ve only played as far as getting your first monster and learning to scout, so not sure if it changes at all going forward.

For some dialogue, square brackets ([ ]) will appear at the start and end of the dialogue. Since one appears at the beginning of the text box, it tends to push the text along a bit and some words end up being split across two lines. It also usually ends up needing a second text box with just the end bracket.

When searching with the reactor, most of the text is in Japanese and the section that shows what skill sets the monster has, just has sets of square brackets ([ ]) for each skill set instead.

Finally, when looking at a monster’s resistances, the last letter or two of the word (Normal, Weak, etc.) will be written on the line below, covering the start of the next one. I did see a point in the first post about not being able to modify the font, so not sure if it’s related to that at all.

I figured it’s most likely just the way it is because the translation wasn’t made for this version or the game and there’s bound to be differences, but I wanted to double check just in case I didn’t inject the patch correctly. If anyone could let me know if they’ve had the same/similar experience, that would be great!

The square brackets are markers for the stuff that's machine translated. I haven't seen the reactor issue but the resistance one is something I've seen on both a patched rom and with the Citra mods folder method but it's relatively minor. Also, I assume this runs off the updated Joker 3 translation because the stealth box with the wizard book in Grim Tundra doesn't crash the game.

If anyone can get back to me on the transfer crash, that would be great.

That's good to know about the markers, thanks for letting me know! I've installed the patch without the MT text and the reactor shows the skills now. I've played through the game a few times already without any patch so I'm not too bothered about some text being in Japanese, since being able to read some dialogue is a bonus. The resistances didn't change but like you said it's relatively minor, so no issues there.

As for the transfer crash, unfortunately I have no idea how you might fix it, but I decided to test the DQMJ3 to DQMJ3P transfer on my 3ds and when I go to select the monster I want to transfer, the 3ds crashes (I only had 3 monsters and it crashed for each of them). Not sure how helpful that is, but I guess at least we know it's not specifically a Citra issue.

Hey so I'm trying to make the patch become a thing for a cia and I'm lost on what to do?

I tried the hackingtoolkits but the reconstructed cia was barely any kbs.

So do I install that and the original japanese rom?

Please help ASAP.
