Japanese guitar? Demon Slayer? Kubo and the Two Strings?

Recommended Posts

So, I watched Kubo and the Two Strings a few months ago, and the closing song had a unique guitar sound. Then I watched Demon Slayer on Toonami, and I saw this character:

Is that sound caused by what she's using for a guitar pick? Is there a name for it? Is it commonly used on stringed instruments in Japan?

That looks like a Biwa. Not to be confused with a Shamisen which is a 3 string lute. The pick is called a bachi (plectrum). It is indeed typically used for stringed instruments in Japan.
