Live A Live Possibly Coming to the West

Seems like another 90s RPG from Square could be on the way for a western release.

Back in 1994, Square released a Super Famicom RPG called Live A Live. You select from one of seven characters and experience their respective story, each have their own gameplay and story style, with some new ones unlocking as you progress through the others.

I don’t know a lot of details about the game, but it’s one I’ve heard enough that I’ve wanted to officially play it for years. I’m hoping with the trademark claim outside Japan we will indeed see an official western release for the game. With Square Enix giving western releases to stuff like the Romancing SaGa games and releasing the original version of Seiken Densetsu 3 back with the Collection of Mana, I think the chances are good!

I’ve always called it “Live a Life,” since you take on the role, or life, of the different characters throughout the ages. It’s a very Engrish name, that’s for sure!

And now we have a European trademark for the game!

Looks like it’s happening! Quick @Plattym3, use your “It’s Coming,” version of your stamp for good luck! Haha 🤣

I certainly hope this game gets a release date soon. I loved playing the fanslation 10 years ago, and I wish the game hadn't had the artist licensing issues that kept it from being localized 25 years ago when it was new.  It was and is a good game with unique ideas, even if not every chapter delivers on the same level.  I remember the Robot chapter being a bit of a dry slog, and the modern-day Prize Fighter arc was a tough one, but I love the game in general, and absorbed the full experience.  Can't wait to do it again!

How did I not see this thread?

I had a good time playing the fan patch a while ago. Never played through all of it. Really good news if this ends up becoming true.

Looks like there’s going to be a live stream event for Live A Live on October 3rd, with a special reveal apparently planned for it. Sounds like a remake/re-release is going to happen after all. Makes me wonder if they’ll do what they did for the SaGa SNES games and give them a graphical overhaul for backgrounds and maps while keeping the original character sprites.

Freaking Square Enix is really dumb sometimes, you know it. They had the stream for the Live a Live anniversary and instead of announcing something cool they just went “LOL we haven’t talked about a potential remake or release elsewhere,” even though we know about the trademarks! You’d think they would have just gone ahead and announced there’s a remake in the works or something, especially with those trademarks that popped up.
