Dragon Quest Your Story coming to Netflix?

Recommended Posts

According to NintendoSoup Dragon Quest Your Story is coming to Netflix

Link: https://nintendosoup.com/dragon-quest-your-story-will-be-released-as-a-netflix-original-movie-outside-of-japan/

Recently, some fans noticed that Netflix listed the worldwide release of Dragon Quest: Your Story as a Netflix original movie which means the movie will likely stay exclusive to the service in countries outside of Japan.

This movie has only previously been released theatrically in Japan and has yet to receive any form of home media release.

Check it out below:

Luca follows in his father’s footsteps to rescue his mother from evil Ladja. Finding the heavenly hero who wields the Zenithian sword is his only hope.

Logged into my Netflix and found it as well

I can believe that. Netflix loves their CG anime. I remember three years ago they randomly dumped Gantz: 0 on there. I can even guess on some of the English cast.

More Dragon Quest for us? I can't complain. Even with that movie's shitty ending.

Makes me think they have the rights to Dai no Daibouken as well, but won't announce it yet.

I also believe that Netflix dubbed the Your Story Film before the whole writer suing the movie's production committee. That and they can't show it till this whole thing gets worked out.

The BD comes out in march I guess, so we won't see a fan sub before that.
Yeah, japanese/anime movies take that long. I guess we'll see it on Netflix before that.

Same. I'm mostly curious how they'll dub it into English and see who they get.

90% confident Cristina Vee and Bryce Papenbrook will voice someone.

Ryan Reynolds as the Slime.

Danny Devito as the Slime.

Quick, someone paste Danny DeVito saying “Your mother is dead” on a Slime from the movie.

Danny DeVito as Bianca or Ladja!

Or...don’t click the spoiler below if you want to avoid major spoilers...

Spoiler

Danny DeVito as the voice of the program who tries to save the main character/player of the “game.”

Honestly, Danny Devito as everyone.

Or Gilbert Gottfried:

I love these suggestions!

I hope they get someone more than just the usual Bang Zoom/LA Anime pool. Even if it isn't the best adaptation of DQ, I still feel like it deserves some good treatment. Having DQXI-level British voice acting via SIDE I feel would be the best, most reasonable option, but at the same time there's just... no way of knowing what they'll do. Only real hint we've got is that the summary clearly shows we'll get localized terms and such. Bang Zoom's dub of High Score Girl another "Netflix" anime they really flip flop between localization and Japanese translation. Plus, I'm bitter they didn't try and get actual SF VAs like Travis Willingham as Guile.

Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Troy Baker, even Steve Blum and Kari Wahlgren have long abandoned anime. You’ll only ever see most of them return to anime voice acting when it’s a sequel to a show they were in. Only new anime I can remember any of those voice actors being in was Troy Baker in Baki of all things and Kari Wahlgren was apparently in the second season of Blue Exorcist. If I heard correctly, it has something to with them being in the Screen Actors Guild, and scale pay rate is probably too high for most dubbing companies. I’ve only heard this, I can’t confirm if it’s true, but there might be a clause that allows for actors to reprise characters in sequels below scale rate.

But then again it could all be as simple as them preferring not to be associated with anime because they want to be known for “serious” video game work. Never forget: the guy who plays Joel from The Last of Us is also the voice of the Helmeppo from One Piece.

I still wish Danny Devito did the voice work for Pikachu in Detective Pikachu.

Me too, me too. Many in an alternate time line DeVito took the role of Pikachu while Ryan Reynolds became Frank on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia...
