Dragon Quest V Update Adds Item to increase Recruitment rate

Recommended Posts

Went to go download an app on the play store when I noticed an interesting update to DQ V. I had no idea this was coming. Haven't had a chance to try it yet because my phone is a PoS and refuses to download or update any apps today, but I am interested to see how well it works and how much it costs etc. Anyone tried this out yet? I'll probably post more screenshots once I get my game working.

That's pretty cool. I wonder what made them add it in. Are there really a lot of people still buying and playing the mobile games?

Finally got my phone to cooperate. It appears in all 3 casino prize vendors for 20k coins. I'm gonna try and get some more tokens so I can have some left. I'm exited to try it!

Also seems their "fix" to larger devices messed up the HUD. Still works, it's just ugly. }|

Really strange to see a new item added to a game which hasn't had any thing new added in 11 years. IV and VI has altered and/or added content on mobile compared to its DS counterparts, but all V got was some small balance changes like tweaks to MP costs.

Also I haven't checked every single party member in the game or anything, but at first glance it appears only our purple-clad hero can equip it, so no need to purchase more than one.

Right...like what made them decide to add it now?

The upcoming Dragon Quest Your Story movie could be the reason. Since it’s based around DQ5, people will either check out the mobile version or replay the mobile version, so adding in an accessory like this could be tied in with the film.

Or maybe Yuji Horii was like, “You know what sucks? Trying to recruit metal monsters on DQ5. Let’s add an accessory to help with that problem!” And then he snapped his fingers and magic happened.

I'd like to think it's the second option.

Likely, it's because JP is getting the DQV movie, and the item was added to the base game.

We're getting it because it was easy to put in the international release.

If only he could have worked that magic so we could have gotten all those 3DS Dragon Quest games Square Enix USA conveniently ignored. Hopefully he can work his magic so we get the upcoming Monsters game Erik from DQ11 is starring in.

I’ll be curious to see what happens with the new Monsters game. I can see Square Enix USA actually giving a #$*! about it because they can promote the hell out of Erik being the main character since he’s from DQ11. But on the other hand, depending on the console it releases on and because it’s a Monsters game, Square Enix could easily pretend to ignore it and be like “What Monsters game? You guys are nuts.”

For once, Pokemon could work in their favor instead of against them: “Hey, you know how you’re all mad a large chunk of the Pokémon roster is being cut...buy DQM:J3!”

The monster magnet was available to japanese players for a limited window of the game's release, maybe about two weeks or so. It was automatically added to the player's bag when downloaded, so no casino diversion. As for why it was reintroduced after five-ish years and made international at that, I'd say the people talking about the movie have the right idea.

Incidentally, I think it would have been more natural and less vidya-y for the mobile port to just make Madchen raise the recruit chance by one stage, IE 1/16 to 1/4. I say this because she mentions being able to understand monsters like her father does, and it would give players more incentive to have her in the party.

If Nintendo was responsible for bringing over the new Monsters game, and provided the newest Monsters game has the same massive library of monsters and then some that the Tara and Cobi remake had, they could easily copy Smash Bros. Ultimate’s advertising with an “Everyone is here!” kind of slogan. Promote like crazy that monsters from every corner of the Dragon Quest series, be they from main game, spin-off, or otherwise, is going to be in the newest Monsters game and can join forces with you.

For fun in the Japanese trailers, Square Enix could poke fun at themselves about the over abundance of recolors on Joker 3/Joker 3 Professional and show off that the newest Monsters game isn’t going to have that same problem.

I would play the Erik Monsters game and I could see a 45% chance that it makes its way over to us. There hasn't been one in the US since the DS so it would be a good way to introduce fans to the side series in a modern setting. Hell, they're even localizing a Monster manga...that's pretty niche in itself and can't be for nothing.
