Screw Anti-Adblock

Recommended Posts

Screw Anti-Adblock. What do you guys do when a site asks you to disable your adblocker? Do you do it? Do you use a plugin to block the anti-adblock? Do you just not use the site?

The majority of the time I just won't use a site that's got an anti-adblocker, hoping they lose all their traffic to people unwilling to turn off their adblockers.  I'm considering downloading a chrome plugin to stop these ad ads. Does anyone know of a good, effective one?

After forbes infected my PC with malware I've decided to trust no website by default. I just add a few to my whitelist like the Den, Nexusmods, etc.

Some sites it is easy to bypass the anti adblock. You open up the browsers dev console and remove certain parts of the HTML.

No but if Woodus ever decides to add them then it'll be whitelisted by default. Otherwise I won't remember to do it.

Laugh and continue using it.

I ad block and NoScript for one reason - every piece of malware I've ever received has come from a site's ad network. Every piece of malware I've had to clean from family and friends have come from ads. And not even ads from questionable or porn sites. Regular, everyday sites. Sites for news, weather, art, etc. Not only do I not trust ad networks, they block content, interrupt browsing, mislead users, and...they never, ever work! Nobody clicks on them. The only time someone will is if it's one of those "you've won gift card" iPad ads that blocks everything and you can't back out of.

So to all the people that whine about users using ad block - deal. Find a better way to run your site. Find an advertising method that's safe for users. Until then I'll gladly stay safe by blocking your ads and crypto miners.

I will agree with this, we fight this at work all the time.

I don't ever plan to put ads on the site (although I get propositions about it all the time).

That being said, I'm not against creators earning money off their work. I wish creators and organizations would vet their ad networks to ensure their advertisements don't work against them. While I'm still eeeeh about the concept, Patreon has evolved into more than just e-begging, but stuff like wish lists and "buy me a coffee" are just stupid and tacky.

An option exists that the anti adblock can't detect all that well. Though you can't white list sites and you need an administrator account to edit the file.
