What's New With You?

I usually set tactics to "don't use magic" when just grinding like that though to conserve MP.

Is the AI on the level of DQ5 and 6 DS, or did it revert backwards to DQ4 NES, or take a step off the precipice of sanity to DQ4 DS, DQ4 PSX, or even worse...DQ7 PSX?

Decorated the school today. It only took an hour to do. Not too shabby. Last year it took 4-ish hours do to.

Once again, home issues are depriving me of sleep. It will be fun to see how my brain functions.

My friend has created an economic theory on how Satan works with souls. He managed to throw in burritos into this theory.

My sickness seems to be evolving into something else. I'm starting to lose my voice.

One nice upgrade that no one seems to be talking about so far is the Party AI. No other version of DQ3 has had this, and it has been begging for this feature since DQ4 on the NES. Normal battles have always been so cumbersome when you have to define everyone's moves in every turn of every battle.

Yeah, but then you can't Parry/Attack. Remember that? Parry, B, Attack, Repeat...except for the last guy in your party, he's just screwed.

Oh man, I remember doing that. All the time. Hell, my muscle memory in my hands remembers those movements!

Yes, the AI feature is quite awesome now.

Just beaten Tales of Abyss a few hours ago. The ending was amazing. I kinda wished they made a proper sequel to it (unlike Symphonia 2). I also did some Christmas shopping today.

So I was doing some Christmas shopping at a reputable entertainment chain (f.y.e., to be specific, but I don't know if that's all over the country or if it's just a New England-specific store) and I stumbled upon the movie section. A few, however were covered by black dividers with the Playboy Bunny on it. I don't know why I didn't figure it out when I saw it but when I looked behind the divider, I discovered a number of porno flicks behind them. That's not so shocking. What is shocking is that they were right next to the regular movies on the same racks. I thought they usually shoved those in the back or at least in there own section.

Then, when I was sifting through the anime section, they had the same black dividers. Of course I had to see what that was all about and of course it was hentai. I've never actually seen hentai sold in a store, let alone next to the other anime, so to see it being sold by a reputable, unshady store like f.y.e., I was laughing hysterically.

I've never heard of that store, so it is probably American-based at the very least. As for what you saw, I was also under the impression that those were kept in a separate section of the store or behind the counter or something.

Some friends and I are planning a Hobbit/Lord of the Rings Marathon for sometime in the new year. Might arrange a Star Wars movie marathon too in anticipation of the new one coming out.

So... now that DQ3 is out on mobile, I can finally play DQ3 SFC. Figures.

Oh well, I'll finish my current iOS playthrough first.

I got $30. That should cover my friend's birthday and all my Christmas shopping.

Reminds me of some of the stores in Japan.  They're pretty liberal about their porn, over there.  Beyond their regular merchandise, even their hardware stores contain both kids toys, porn and ninja weaponry.  When I was there in 2005, I took a picture of a Hello Kitty toy on display next to porn and a crossbow. (I can dig up the photo, but I'd have to blur parts of it to make it forum-safe.)

Are you sure the Hello Kitty and crossbow weren't in some way related to sex toys...? Seems like there could be a link there.

Well, I'm sure you could combine them, but their branding looks pretty different to me.

You forgot to blur a few, er... "slimes".

Hah.  Okay, the pic's resolution isn't great, but I revised it to try and blur out everything that could been potentially interpreted as...slimes.

Hah.  I think Jessica would be better at that than the bunny girl.

A few thoughts:

1) Is it pronounced "Poof poof" or is that just a French accent?  I always thought it was literally: puff puff (pronounced like "'Puff' the Magic Dragon").

2) Why isn't Jessica taking damage from those slimes?!

3) ...unless the bunny girl is some sort of mutant, ala Total Recall, and those slimes are actually her slimes...

I've always thought it was "puff".

I always pronounced it as "poof" because that's how I heard it said.

Going to the University of Alberta tomorrow to do a lab in Physics class. If I remember correctly, we get to play with lasers.

Today was a fun day. In Drama, we were missing both the people who play the one part, so the teacher filled in (and constantly skipped other peoples' lines all the time). English class we started watching Lars and the Real Woman, my friend moved back to town for the semester, we learned how to build a nuclear reactor out of household products, and in my Social Studies class, we talked about Environmentalism, Neo-conservatism, Postmodernism, Christian Rights, Aboriginal Rights, and Extremism.

I'm sure there's some overlap in Japan of enthusiasts of boobs, Hello Kitty, and crossbows.

Roommate finally moved in. He's got an interesting past (he's not originally from the US), and seems like he'll be busy come January.  It might take me a while to get used to a roommate, but it's a new chapter in life that should be interesting to say the least.

One more freakin' final exam to go and I am done with fall term!

Other than that, fall term was amazing. Went to awesome events, made whole lots of new friends, discovered new interests, and just plain ol tackled obstacles like I haven't before. School as an independent student is rough, but has had some of the most memorable moments thus far *cough* parties

Still no luck with the ladies, but I don't worry about it anymore. Just glad I now know I actually have the guts to go up to girls and tell them they are cute, even if I don't know them very well. In fact, tomorrow will tell that to a Japanese girl, in japanese! She's been wanting me to say things in Japanese, so yeah, haha.

Oh, and I finally upgraded to a smartphone after like, 5 years. Noticeable due to me getting all DQ games  :)

For future reference, how do you say that in Japanese?

"Coffee girl" (not using real names sounds very... Rude. Not my intention at all) said "I don't know" and then just changed the subject, but not in a nervous way. She didn't act any different after my having asked her out, which I guess is good. It's definitely the most positive reaction I've ever gotten. At the same time, though, her "I don't know" sounded more like "I'm not interested" than "I'll think about it".
