Please urgent help with mural boss.

Recommended Posts

I have fought the mural boss 50 times and have died 50 times. Please I’m on super strong monsters and I’ve omtopmized everything I can’t do it, it’s immpossible, I refuse to believe anyone else can do it. If you have killed this boss on strong monster mode please tell me exactly how. I’m losing my mind, and this boss can also randomly for 6 times per turn.

It only acts 6 times because it was the last acting character in the round/first acting character in the next round.

It’s not impossible, so don’t be saying stuff like,  “I refuse to believe anyone else can do it,” because that’s just your rage talking. I should know, I had the same mindset before I beat it.

The best strategy win super strong enemies on is to use any critical hit skills, which at that point is Jade and Serena with Thunder Thrust, Sylvando and/or Rab using Hustle Dance/Multiheal (or any healing) respectively, and everyone else just does what they can because you’ll have to deal with the boss beguiling characters. Sylvando’s Sobering Slap can remedy this, but he’s better used for healing.

It took me a good 15 tries to find victory, but it’s entirely possible to win.

Enemy Name---------- -----F----I-----W-----E-----L-----D----Z---DM-- ---Po---Pa-----Co----Sl---Da---Sa---Bl---De---DI----Si-- ----St---Kn----En-----Wh-----Pf-----Be----SD----EL
Dora-In-Grey----------- ---75---75---75---75--110---50---75--100-- --100--NUL--NUL---1----50---75---75---75---75--NUL-- ---1---NUL--NUL--NUL--NUL--NUL---75---75

How to read this:

She's weak to Light (damage), but strong versus all other elements, so non-elemental attacks are preferable.

Light =

Spells: Bang

Skills: Starburst Throw, Divine Restitution, Hand of God, BrightsplitterSudden Death, Starstrike

Pep Powers: Solar Flair, Flashbang Wallop, Lightmare

Only two available options: Erik (Boomerangs - Starburst Throw), and Sylvando (Whips - Starstrike)

However, do note that Erik is far better served going sword and Falcon Slash.

Veronica likely only has Bang, no Boom yet, so not a great asset for damage.  Though if you DO have Boom, use it.

HOWEVER, despite Earth being reduced to 75% damage, it's still useful to use Erik's spells, but more importantly, Scorched Earth, which should very likely inflict Fire/Earth damage *1.2, increasing damage to 90% for Earth and the Frizz and Sizz spells, making Veronica more useful offensively (unless she has Boom, in which case that's better output).

----

She's susceptible to Poison/Envenom -> So Cobra Strike is quite useful

She can be Blunted (unlikely you have this spell)

She can be Sapped (you have this)

She CAN be Dazzled (will be your greatest boon defensively, as this will reduce her physical hit rate to about 50%).  Hell I'd just keep this up.

---

At 1% sleep resistance, she can still be put to sleep through Dirge of Dundrasil (only Rab has to be in Pep State), at a 75% rating (100% if any value above 1%).

---

Anathematize from Rab is VERY useful here.  It will actually render spells more useful (in Rab's case, mostly Ice, as Dark is just too reduced to be of use).  This will also help with Earth damage, and her resistance is 75%...though the initial rate is 50%, meaning a 37.5%.  Still worthwhile.

---

Buff/Kabuff are your friends in this battle as well.

---

Decelerate will help as well.  This is the first DQ game to tie enemy flee rates to Agility (before it was a fixed value, and most have 0 evasion).  She tends to have decent evasion.  Plus making her go last more often is helpful.

---

Hero + Jade should be your main damage dealers.

MAKE SURE Jade does NOT have the Lightning Lance equipped.  Any other weapon will do, and Lances will be preferable, especially if you can fit Multithrust into her build.

Hero should definitely be speced for Unbridled Blade.  No exceptions.  Aim immediately for that.

Erik for two things:

 1) Cobra Strike <-use until it lands
 2) Falcon Slash OR Victimizer, depending on how much damage you can deal on him with Erik Oomphed and Dora Sapped.  If damage output sucks, then Falcon Slash should be your main method of attack (so respec for it, but make sure to keep Cobra Strike).

----

You can have more than one DoT on him, but only one of a single elemental type (so poison OR envenom, Rubble spells or the Pep Power Scorched Earth)

---

Rab should be debuff, healing (Dirge of Dundrasil whenever and if ever available).

---

Sylvando should probably aim for Hustle Dance, and any other points, go for Knives and Cobra Strike (ESPECIALLY if you're going for Erik as a Knife build...more Cobra Strikers the merrier).

---

Serena just healing and Kabuff or Buff

---

Veronica, Oomph, Sap, Dazzle, and if you have Boom, use Boom

I should point out this has been done now by about 50 people so far, with a full 6x Draconian Mode.

Obviously it was my rage thanks for the help but I beat her, using all pepped members, and sapping her. Had 1 guy alive at 15 HP.

This is a super tough boss on strong monsters, but I was trying my best to "sequence break" and get the magic key as early as possible (like before the main story requires me to), so I fought it quite early/underleveled, and still won.

I won't lie though, I definitely died at least 2 or 3 times before finally winning, and I think luck did play in a bit. Before fighting her the last time I spent some time on buying/crafting those pendants that defend against "charm" (I think you can buy them at the shop when resting at the bonfire outside of Sniflheim), and forging them to +3 or at least +2.

But honestly, I don't think they worked pretty well, and my characters still got charmed a lot. Though equipping two of them on each character might have been a good idea in hindsight.

Ugh. I hate the turn order that sometimes does that. Last person to attack in one round 3 times, then first person to attack in the next round 3 times.  Really, is there any coming back from that.  The final final act 3 boss did this and it was peace out!  Who's gonna survive 6 hits?

I don’t understand why we can change the battle view between classic and free-roam, but can’t change the combat to normal selecting commands and letting the turn play out. I really wish this was an option I much prefer selecting my commands then waiting for each turn to come up.

They do have that option in Japan. It was either buying the PS4 version or buying the 3DS version.

I've played on classic for 110 hours. I've almost forgotten there was an option.

Why? I mean, I get it's classic DQ, but it would only be a tactical disadvantage, and you're back to "guessing" who gets to go first when you pick actions. The current system in DQXI basically works the same, except you get to delay picking the action until it is actually going to get played out. It's only due to this advantage that I was even able to beat a majority of the bosses on Draconian strong monsters. You still can't be completely certain on people's order, so there is still a lot of risk taking involved.

Going back to the classic action picking isn't going to keep bosses with 3 attacks per turn from potentially getting 6 actions in a row, however it will make you less able to deal with it, as you can't quickly get everyone into defensive actions, take people out of the party, etc. in the same turn as you get screwed.

Personally I don't mind the fact that some fights will suddenly cripple your team entirely due to bad luck. It happens rarely enough that it doesn't make fights impossible, yet consistently enough that you need to be able to deal with it. It's a part of the randomness that's a staple of Dragon Quest, and it's exactly what keeps the DQXI battles exciting, as opposed to a trite exercise of just repeating your best moves over and over.
In this game you have so many options at your disposal that you can almost always recover if you think about what you are doing.
I don't recall ever relying on "kerplunk" as often as I did in this one, and I love that they really managed to make almost every spell feel relevant like that.

What vexes me is the lack of a message speed option; in and out of battle.  Even DQ9 has one.

I didn’t use anything other than my best moves, because I had to especially on strong monsters. Don’t know how you got variety in your playthrough but I certainly didn’t.

getting charm resistant gear and snap, crackle, poof helps a lot. If you have boulderbringer use it and well keep hitting hard with your other units while keeping passive damage through poison and boulderbringer might helps.

sword stance/greatsword guard might help against physical attacks tho you need to watch out for her desperation attack or critical hit.

If you can prevent charm from worki g this fight might be a lot easier.

I just beat this boss, I used The Pep Power that required the Hero, Jade and Serena that gave HP/MP recovery every round while giving everyone oomph, Had the hero use Falchion Slash every round and had Jade spamming Hip Drop because it was doing more damage than any other attack I tried. I also used Spooky Aura to increase offensive magic against her. I did almost wipe at the end. I was only Level 30 for my party, but thankfully Serena had Moreheal.

I beat the painting (strong enemies) on level 30 - 2nd attempt. Oomph, Erik's earth damage per turn spells, Multi-thrust and Unbridled Blade (with Plantinum Powersword from casino - may have been +3 at this point) saved me.

The toughest fight on strong monsters has been the Slayer of the Sands of all things. The big boss took me three tries. It was also 3 or 4 for the damn Act 2 arbonia dragon, which was my toughest opponent of all in the first playthrough (regular enemies).
