The poll will not include games that exist like Joker 3 that never came out here.  I would be assuming that we'll get a translation from someone anyway.  This goes beyond into the realm of games that dont exist at all.

I'm going to have to go with Monsters 4.  I want it to be a better m2, with a storyline of its own: The object of it will be to visit dq 1 thru 10's worlds to get a key from a major NPC and then leave to go use those keys and go thru RNG caves again.  perhaps lets add more findable secrets on the worldmaps, too, even if it only uses a 'section' of a worldmap from each DQ game.  Breeding should be much faster to tone down on menuing all day.

The reason why i didnt vote dq12 yet is simply because dq11 is the best game of all time to me now, and its a culmination of everything before it.  I dont feel the need to desire a 12 anytime soon, and really dont want 12 to 'cheapen' 11 if it ends up becoming ANOTHER culmination game.  I hope when the time comes its all new in many areas.

Here's my foremost [wishlist] item: a Dragon Quest Heroes installment where we get to fight all the cool top-level monsters from the modern remakes of Terry's and Monsters 2, and from Joker 3. (Mostly because I want to see a planet-sized Metal Star and kill it).

I doubt we'll see a Joker 4.  It was stated by someone, though I forget if it's a producer or Horii, that Joker 3 was the finale.  Monsters 4 is more likely.

I'm surprised you didn't list a remake, as that would be my core desire, anyway, most wanted:

  1. Dragon Quest 1~3 remake done in DQ11's style with skill systems (keep the stats as they are, and use the SFC changes and add in the GBC equipment tweaks), only assure Pachisi returns to DQ3, and 2 gets a monster arena after the pink sabrecat is taken down...yeah, that would be awesome, would also be cool if there was more hidden in DQ1 related to DQ3.  Or monster raids on Tantegel and Kol, or something.
  2. Dragon Quest 9 remake done in DQ11's style with no DLC.
  3. Dragon Quest 1~9 released as a legacy package, nearly all versions, on the Nintendo eShop, PSN, Steam, and even the MS store for Xbox users (test the waters).  By all versions I mean DQ1~3 gets the NES and SFC (no mobile, we'll pretend that never happened).  DQ4~6 original and both remakes for 4 and 5, while 6 retains the mobile tweaks and all mobile special bonus items exclusive to Japan are released IN-GAME for all three (and party chat of course for 4).  DQ7 both versions only with the option to turn on or off random encounters or the on-screen.  DQ8 both versions, DQ9's original of course (no real choice there).  All DLC features altered to in-game (so in the case of 4~7, the mobile tweaks for the online/connectivity content).
  4. Dragon Quest XII
  5. Dragon Quest Monsters remake legacy release package on all online stores.  All versions, or at least the latest versions of each.
  6. Dragon Quest Monsters 4
  7. New Dragon Quest Action RPG that isn't Heroes and follows more along the lines of secret of mana...like SNES graphics, or DS graphics engines as the basis.

I want to see Heroes III soon with the DQXI cast.  Hopefully DQXII before 2021, that would be great.  Really what I want to see right now are localizations for Builders 2, Rivals, and the new Fortune Street.  And I want to see a localization for the 3DS version of DQXI.

Remakes are a pretty good idea -- I experienced IV, V, and VI through the DS and love the party chat in the latter two -- but the only one I'd be solidly interested in is II, which frankly needs a story overhaul to shore up the long-winded parts. I'd go for something pretty radical, but it needs at least a couple of IX-scale vignettes, which could be used to develop Hargon and company.

I would love some kind of Dissidia Dragon Quest, with a gameplay more similar to the PSP version of the Dissidia franchise.

Oooor, I would really love another kind of DQ experience. Something that would looks and feels like Diablo I and II but with the DQ universe. You'd play as a standard rookie, whose task is to somehow restore the light to the world, by summoning "echoes" of previous or future heroes (who would be the main character from all the Dragon Quest games), but only the protagonist. From DQIV for exemple, you could only summon the green haired hero.

You'd have a hub, where the "echoes" can be reborn when they die, as they would go on fighting monsters on their own as soon as they are awaken. The more heroes would be summoned, the more the hub would be fortified (as more and more people would be attracted to it, in a similar aspect to Builders). Options similar to Tower Defense games would appear when the Builders' hero and/or heroine are unlocked. You'd then be able to farm materials to make your hub's wall more resistant, you'd have a forge system to further strengthen the heroes, but also a food/moral stat to take into account etc.

More heroes could be added via updates, or they could be more balanced should they need so. On time, monster taming would even be possible, to allow the Monsters and Jokers protagonists to join the fight. When you'd have more than 4 heroes unlocked, you'd have the option to created groups of heroes, to make them stronger, and you'd have certains boost according to who's teaming up with who (like "Roto's blood" boost or "Ancestors knowledge" when Roto/Erdrick is in the same team as any of his descendant). In a similar way to Darkest Dungeon you could send hero groups into powerful and dreadful dungeons, to farm for experience, or to find powerful artifacts and/or equipments. You could find key items, like the Orb of Light, that would have a huge impact on the hub, or could make the "fog of war" disappear a little, as you'd have to let your warriors roam the land to see its extent and shape, since the shape would be, like in Diablo, randomly generated.

You'd have some RTS options too, where you could micro-manage your teams and main character and hub/town, and you could also control your characters kind of like in Heroes, in real-time battles.

However, the game, in my idea, would be challenging and hard. Any Game Over would be fatal, and force you to actually restart the game from scratch. Death would be death, so that you'd have to carefully scrap your way into the game. Sending heroes out would be dangerous for you, as you'd never know when or if a wave of monsters would arrives.

Which is why letting heroes in the hub/town could also be a good thing to do, as they could be assigned to train npcs to become Warriors, Mages, or the like. Those npcs would start of weak af, but would in time, be pretty convenient.

The way I see it, it would require time and strategy to be able to beat the game, and actually save the world. =w=

Sure I would like to see remakes and new games like XII, I'd also like to see new ideas as well. I'd like to see a Dragon Quest game where you play as the main bad guy and take over the world almost like what Overlord, Dungeons 2 & 3  do but differently.

Dragon Quest 3, remade into an action-based RPG, slightly based off the Ys series.

You control the Hero, and your party members use AI-patterns based on your input.

Redo the story a bit (Have a better fleshed-out post-game, like in DQIV, where say, your wish to revive Ortega can have different aspects on the story, or other things.)

Well there are a lot of other slots you could have used to spread, since other is pretty wide open and there are a lot of alternative DQ types of games than the ones listed.

Yeah, Unreal has a LOT of potential, especially for rereleases in whatever is remade in the engine.  Updating to the next Unreal Engine, or even several releases later would be much easier than rebuilding a new engine from scratch.  Though given Arte Piazza is the go-to for remakes (at least the VAST majority of them), I have to wonder if they're willing to compromise on their old and constantly updated engine from DQ6 SFC, and switch over to Unreal Engine.  Would be nice, would make things easier for them I think.

There is no Monsters 3. It's just 1 and 2, then Caravan Heart is its own thing, then the Joker series. That said, I voted "Monsters 4".

I would also enjoy Heroes 3 a lot, but I am just now playing the first one in English, which means I have this and II to enjoy again, and I could wait a bit more for a third game.

Also, I know you are using the English names, but having 3 Slime Morimori games already can make the "Rocket Slime 2" thing look confusing.

My dream DQ is really just one with the best stuff taken from all the previous games hence DQ12. For example, take the graphics of DQ11, the character models of DQ1-7 at least spin offs cause I'm not a fan of modern game character art, monsters from all the games and some cool new ones, the world depth of 11. Add classes back in along with special classes and monster classes, and allow us to recruit a select few monsters from the field which we won't have access to their class (AKA monster hearts), so then we could change the monsters we get into different classes like DQ6. I would like to see 3 types of gambling: Monster Arena from DQ3 (Betting on monsters), all of DQ11's PS4 casino, and the pachisi track from DQ3 brought in as well, so we have the best of all worlds in this scenario. Tons of monsters like 11, and tons of achievements as well I'm talking twice as more then 11. Alchemy the way 11 did it NOT 9. The game should be "Super Strong Monsters setting should be the default difficulty". Wasn't a huge fan of the luminary story line from 11, so something classic like DQ1-8 would be fine for me. And, a non-linear adventure with secrets and fun puzzles mostly like DQ3's ghost ship chasing was awesome and little things like using the transformation staff to make yourself a dwarf to buy from the elves (fairies) shop <----- things like this would make the game far more enjoyable. And, overall that's it. I'm not asking for a DQ 1000 years into the future or one that has things far beyond UN-reasoning just a DQ game with the best of all games be taken and put into 1. 11 was good, however, it still didn't do this for me. This is my ideal DQ game. (Also trials from DQ11 should be put into DQ11 as there unique challenges that require fun strategising, and in DW4 burning down a normal ass looking mountain to get to a castle was really cool goes along with a non-linear adventure and interesting secrets.) (ALSO mini-games from DQ11 would be great like racing.)

Monsters 4.  Actually I would prefer a localization of Terry’s Wonderland which is very possible because it was announced for IPad and Tablets in Japan.  I am still playing DQ11 so DQ12 is not super important right now.

Never ever ever digital only. If they release anything, it needs to be put on physical format. Digital only means it will eventually go away.

I would love a remake of DQ3 with DQ11's engine and

Spoiler

tie both games a little more, confirming that the hero is a descendant of Erdwin in the new timeline after Serenica goes back, seeing how the mother has hair like her and the hero looks just like a younger Erdwin

Keep the personality system but make the status bonus more significant, add old style Party Chat without the lagging menu screen and have your recruited friends' party chat change depending on their personalities (I can already feel the pain it would be for that to translate such an extensive database of dialogs), add blacksmithing and expand the class system to be similar to DQIX, with weapon skill trees and include new classes like Gladiator, Armamentalist, Ranger, Paladin and Superstar (and don't make it so Superstar is useless and only attainable through a post-game chores), also include Minstrel and make it a worthwhile support basic class.

Otherwise, if Square Enix is through with remakes, make the future DQXII have all those features. It would be cool if this time it was a bit like the Tactics series where you recruit a lot of party members and you basically build your army/organization. I think Monster Recruiting sometimes ends up being not worth it because due to the party limit and your human characters being much better, but in a game where you got like 20 people in your rooster, it might be worth it to have a bunch of monsters in there.

Hmm... a DQ dating simulator, with the ultimate goal being every possible variation one can have of a Puff-Puff, with the final boss being marriage, and the ending a honey moon special Puff-Puff, starring every DQ girl.

I know you said you aren't including games that just haven't been translated, but...

Dragon Quest X is quite literally the best game I've ever played (arguably tied with the PS1 version of DQVII - which was my top game of all time until DQX.). And I can't even fully understand it! It's exactly everything I've always wanted from the series, besides English text.

Just to give a "valid" answer... An action RPG. I wouldn't want to see the main series switch genres, but I definitely think a battle system similar to that of Kingdom Hearts II would be neat for a spin off (series). Dragon Quest Heroes comes close to what I'm imagining, but it focuses more on giant hoardes than quick, snappy, fluid movement. Also, it's spell/skill system is rather limited.

I'd love to see another DQ Mystery Dungeon game, too. In English please. (Why we only ever got Torneko 2 is beyond me. I mean Torneko 1 came out I think when there was no Enix of America, but Torneko 3 should have come here. Or AT LEAST Young Yangus, seeing as DQ8 did well [right?].)

I want to point out that "Rocket Slime 2" is part of the poll... Rocket Slime IS Rocket Slime 2 (Slime MoriMori Dragon Quest 2: Tails Brigade and the Giant Tanks). And if you meant a sequel to that game, it exists too (in Japanese) - Slime Morimori Dragon Quest 3: Tails Brigade and the Great Pirate.

I likely said this before in a similar thread.

-Another Mystery Dungeon Dragon Quest styled game with a worldwide release. Make it a monster hero recruiting monsters for the team. Or you play as only a hero with some human/monster allies.

-A Dragon Quest RPG maker. If Mario Maker was a thing this could be a thing.

-A Dragon Quest fighter. (Soul Calibur or Samurai Showdown styled)

-A DQ game with multiple endings and story routes

That sounds amazing.

I voted for Monsters 4. More of a story like DWM2, but with the postgame Demon Lord boss gates like DWM1. I didn't like hunting for keys when it was time to complete the library. I didn't play Caravan Hearts, so I envision more of a direct sequel to DWM1+2. Perhaps it could be set in DeadTree, with a plot about helping the inhabitants escaping their dying home for a new land (call it NewSprout), and the its -bou spirit could be Kagebou. 😛

I don't really like Joker-style skill trees, but after several replays I have to admit that the single-skill varieties get old - you know the best moves and you automatically delete the rest. I suppose skill trees give some incentive to learn the bad ones along the way to the good ones.

I really don't like the scouting system from Joker. It just incentivizes focusing on Attack, Swarm-skill monsters, and Psyche Up. Meat may be an oversimplified system for recruitment, but there has to be some sort of skill-based middle ground.

On the plus side, I've come to appreciate the infernal Arena system as a way to increase difficulty when you've already set up skillsets that can beat anything in the game. It's a bit perverse to make 'fighting the AI' part of the difficulty, but it is effective.

***

In my dreams, I'd want some sort of sequel to Dragon Warrior 1-3 set decades after the kingdoms have rebuilt from the ravages of Hargon and Sidoh and a new menace has arisen. It would have a DW3-like class system, perhaps with the upgrades from DQ9, and take you all around the world like DW3 did. (So, basically, it would be DW3 II.) The difficulty would be high so you got to use the class system to its full extent.

Wait, never mind, dreamtrain already said what I meant to say. 🤪 Oops! And I second their idea about a Tactics series. That would be really fun.

Dream game for me would be a localized DQX MMO.

But if I had a second dream DQ game it would be the original four Famicom/NES Dragon Warrior titles remade in the 3D world anime style of Dragon Quest VIII-PS2 and DQXI. I wouldn't even add anything extra into the game outside of remaking everything into a 3D landscape, adding backgrounds to battles, animating the monsters in battle, adding 3rd person battle perspective, and rendering the map in a 3D landscape. Okay, maybe also enable online multiplayer so you and up to 3 friends could play co-op. Fully orchestrated music and voice acting a plus.

My dream game would have to be a Dragon Quest fighting game. After how well Dragon Ball FighterZ turned out, I REALLY want to see Arc Systems make a Dragon Quest fighting game in the same vain. Maybe have it where you choose your team of two or three characters, but then all the assist characters are various monsters from the series, some shooting projectiles, others with overheads, etc.

Make it one where heroes, villains, and major NPCs are up for playable roles, be they from main series or spin off games. Don’t just focus on main series heroes like the Heroes games do, let’s see the likes of Tara/Cobi and Buildrick join the fight.
