I could understand a month or two delay but six months for 'final' touches? Seems shady AF. Still want it though...

It most likely had to do with marketing. Or they discovered something that had to be reworked. Who knows.

I wouldn't call it shady though.

Somehow, I forgot to upload gameplay footage of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition.

This is from TGS 2018.

And this is from TGS 2019.

Before I forget, the true name is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles S: Remastered Edition: Game of the Year Edition.

Voice-overs? Was the original game silent? I'll probably be playing it without any voices, depends on how good the Japanese are and if the option for original voice acting is there...

Seems like a great game, though. At this point seeing little games like Crystal Chronicles or Chocobo Dungeon is just a huge surprise and miracle. Wonder what's the NA price. Probably 39.99 or 49.99 like trials of mana.

P.S. Just checked the J. voices - they sound a little too stereotypical, so I'll probably just keep the voices muted. Rings of Fate had a fantastic voice team.

Is it fun offline? Or is it made for co-op? I see the presentation and seems like there's co-op.

The original Crystal Chronicles was 4 player co-op. You could each even use a GBA and have a little personal map/stats screen.

I didn't ever play much of it though.

Thanks.

I've decided to not get the original CC (remastered) because it mostly seems like an action game intended for multiplayer. Which is fine but I'd rather play Echoes of Time and Rings instead :3

Square Enix has released the "New Features" trailer for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition, which reveals a free-to-play "Lite" version of the game due out day and date with the full release.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition Lite will allow players to enjoy the first three dungeons of the game, take part in online cross-play in those dungeons, or join in with a player who has purchased the full game to play together in up to 13 dungeons.

Here are the latest details, via Square Enix:

Quote

With Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition Lite, adventurers can play through the first three dungeons in both single player and online multiplayer with cross-play functionality. Additionally, players who purchase the full game will be able to host multiplayer sessions with players using Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition Lite, so a full party of up to four caravanners can play through up to 13 dungeons in the fantasy adventure together with one copy of the full game. Save data can be carried over from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition Lite to the full game, ensuring players can seamlessly continue their progress in the magical fantasy adventure.

In addition to a 'Mimic' feature which allows players to take the form of various characters they meet on their journey, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition also adds a number of new gameplay enhancements to make the adventure more memorable than ever, such as:

  • Quick Chat – New tactical commands to give easy text-based instructions to teammates during online multiplayer play.
  • Magic Timer – A new Timer mechanic, helping players to synchronize and combine their magical attacks to unleash more powerful abilities.
  • UI Improvements – Increases to material capacity limits allow for more trouble-free adventures and a mini-map has been added to the game's UI ensuring players always have a tactical understanding of their environments.
  • Additional Difficulty Modes – After finishing the main scenario, high difficulty dungeons will be available for daring adventurers to explore, including the Mine of Cathuriges which will include powerful enemies and new challenges alike. These challenging post-game dungeons are exclusive to the full release of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition.
  • Updated Soundtrack – Over 50 musical tracks have been newly-composed especially for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition by the original game's composer, Kumi Tanioka, including newly-recorded versions of the beloved theme songs Sound of the Wind and Starry Moonlit Night.

Additionally, the company will premiere a pre-recorded "Preparation & Review Special" video on June 27 at 12:00 JST, which will feature game director Ryouma Araki and MC Susumu Imadachi of Eleki Comic, who will introduce the game and further explain the "Lite" version.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is due out digitally for PlayStation 4, Switch, iOS, and Android on August 27 worldwide. In Japan, the PlayStation 4 and Switch versions will be available both physically and digitally.

This is a deal breaker for me. I didn't plan on playing local because of the current pandemic. But the fact that I can't play a game that was originally offline and play  with my friends on our own Switches is dumb. Yeah, we COULD play online in the same room. But playing through LAN vs. online is a night and day difference. Not to mention that would also require a subscription service.

A lot of people are not happy about the lack of local multiplayer. Square Enix dropped the ball not trying to implement that in this new version.

I legit feel bad for folks who wanted to play it locally with friends on the same console.

Yep. I know a lot of angry people as well. I think it's because there is tons of nostalgia associated with playing the game couch co-op style.
