Dear Denzians,  as you may have seen, our very own Audio Android (yeah, screw you Apple!) has very nearly completed his take on the original Dragon Warrior.  He's getting close to a Beta release and would like to run a quest here so he can have a side quest in the game.  His Dragon Warrior game isn't an exact clone of the original, it apparently has a twist and some other fun surprises in store for us.  Basically he's asking for YOUR help in developing a side quest for his game.  The winner of this contest will actually get his side quest put INTO THE GAME!!!!!

Voting will end March 21st at the end of the day, EST.

Here are the submissions.  (sorry for the links AND spoilers, I had a hell of a time with the spoiler tags and just gave up for a while before figuring it out)

There can be only 1 winner, so cast your 1 vote carefully:

Entry #1 - Side Quest for Side Boob

Side Quest Title: Side quest for side boob

Side Quest Sequence:

Step 1. In Brecconry: Hear about scantilly-dressed women bathing in Rimdular

Step 2. See a female in the water of south central Rimdular.  Have a nearby male NPC mention he wishes he could see her better (there are trees in the way), but needs a spyglass from some new big pirate monster roaming Erdrick's Cave.

Step 3. Go back to Erdrick's Cave.  A pirate monster boss (think Captain Crow/Slime combination) is down on the 2nd floor.  Beating him gets you the spyglass.

Step 4. Back to Rimdular to hand over the spyglass.  The NPC excitedly uses it and in exchange gives you...

Side Quest Reward: Side Boob Shield, basically a bulbous shield better than most you can buy at the point in the game.

Entry #2 - Side Quest from Above

Side Quest Title: Side Quest from Above

Side Quest Sequence:
Step 1. Meet a "woman from the city of Cantlin near the bridge in the interior (hidden garden). She offers to give you a Puff Puff in return for a pair of Rainbow Slime pieces (can't think of a better word). She mentions the Rainbow Slime can be found in a cave nearby, but on that's a long journey away...

Step 2. Go to the cave south of Rimdular. Inside the old man is joined by a King Rainbow Slime (looks like the name, a King Slime, but rainbow colored). Beating this monster gets you 2 Rainbow Slime pieces.

Step 3. Return to Cantlin & hand over the pieces. The "lady's" wig will fall off before she gives you a Puff Puff, and he'll tell you he's a dude from Ashalam. His daughter and him used to run a massage scam but she got married and moved away so he decided to find a new place to operate. The Rainbow balls are super soft and he can now use them to massage people.

Side Quest Reward: He gives you an item: golden claws. You can't equip them but they sell for a lot of money (half of what it takes to buy the Silver Shield or whatever is priciest).

Entry #3 - A Shell of an Enemy

Side Quest Title: A shell of an enemy

Side Quest Sequence:

Step 1: In Rimuldar find a npc who tells you that he thinks he is being targeted by a monster assassin. He ask that you find the assassin and take him out.

Step 2: In the upper right hand corner of the swamp cave(the cave with the green dragon) there should be a Robotic Bad Egg Boss (Something like the images below perhaps?) from the future sent as an assassin to kill you in an attempt to stop you from eliminating dragon lord.

Step 3: Return to Rimuldar to talk to the npc and explain the situation. He was sent in the past temporarily to help you, and now that his job is complete he will return soon.

Side Quest Reward: Recieve a shield made from the broken parts composed of the future assassin. (Possibly stronger than the silver shield considering there is no other strong shield)

Entry #4 - Seeking the Lost Equipment

First one: Seeking the lost Equipment:

1: After passing the bridge onto the Isle of Dragons, a ghost named Ortega appears as an NPC (maybe there can be an extra hut or something on the world map).

2: He tells you that you are free to enter castle Charlock, but that you might consider obtaining some lost equipment that is to be found. Say yes and he says meet you at the shrine you got the staff of rain from.

3:Meet Ortega at the aforementioned shrine. He leads you to the ruins of a tower that was destroyed from continental drift. He explains that after a great evil (implying Zoma) was destroyed, the lands arounf Alefgard were unsealed, resulting in said continental drift.  At the ruins of the tower (which is only a single floor of rubble), you may speak to and engage in a fight with a Ghost King Hydra. Defeating it nets you the Shield of Erdrick, which provides 8 more defense than the Silver Shield.

4: Talk to Ortega's ghost again and he tells you to meet him in Damdara.

5:Go to the ruined town of Damdara. Ortega leads you to to a ruined shrine in the swamp south of Cantlin. He tells you it was once a holy place, etc. There you can fight a ghostly form of Baramos. Beat him (it?) and you get the Helmet of Erdrick. Since there's no helmet slot in DQ1, the helmet is an equipable item like the Dragon Scale, reducing fire damage from enemies.

6: Meet Ortega back at the hut. He tells you that you have truly gained all the strength of you ancestor, Erdrick. He says he wishes he was as great a hero as Erdrick the Great. Now that he can finally move on to the afterlife, he says something like "And know that I will always watch over you, my kin", without coming out and saying he's Erdick's old man.

In short, a fun way to tie up some loose plot threads on Erdrick's missing equipment later seen in DQ2, the change of geography in ALefgard, an explanation why you couldn't sail passed the barrier in DQ3 and giving a much deserved nod to Ortega.

Entry #5 - James and the Giant Pear

Side Quest Title:James and the Giant Pear

Side Quest Sequence:

Step 1:In Kol's inn, go the second floor and speak to the kid by the table. He'll ask if you you're a warrior. Respond yes and he'll introduce himself as James, a upcoming Monster Master but that his only monster, a Gigadraco he calls Pear Dragon, has gone out of control. He'll ask if youll help pacify the monster.

Step 2:From Kol, go around the mountains to the forest in the south east. In the top right square of the trees is a hidden cave where you can find the Gigadraco. Beat it.

Step 3:Go back to Kol and speak with James. He'll ask you to escort him to to cave. He'll begin following you, but won't participate in combat. Once in the cave he'll explain how his brother is a big name in the taming circuit and he's trying to follow suit. His brother gave him the Gigadraco, and James lost control due to his inexperience. He then says he'll be staying in the cave, saying he doubts he can go to town with a monster in tow.

Before you leave the cave, James will stop you and give you...

Side Quest Reward:Monster Munchies. Using them on the field increases the encounter rate for a while. Using them in battle will sometimes make monsters not attack for a few turns. Can be used infinitly. Can't be sold.

Number 4 gets my vote. I can't figure out how to hide the content, so SPOILER ALERT. Don't read any farther if you don't want to know anything about the quests.

I've always thought they could've made more of the Ortega/Erdrick(Loto)/DW1 Hero lineage, especially in the remakes. Just one question, though. Why would Ortega's spirit by trapped in Alefgard? His enemy was Zoma, who got his comeuppance already via Erdrick/Loto. Not that it matters much.

Very cool, but you need to actually click on and register in the poll at the top for it to get tallied. I appreciate the props nonetheless though!

Sweet deal! I can't believe I actually did it. I hate to ask but does this merit a badge too? Maybe the SFC Ortega sprite?

Hey, congrats on winning. Really liked reading through your side quest's details, and it's a good way to tie the 1st and 3rd games together.

I didn't vote for that one, but it would have been my second choice. Very excellent! I liked them all, really. Quality side quests.

Thanks, I appreciate it!
