DLC items are (supposedly) becoming available

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried calling up Nintendo or Square Enix? I could try e-mailing if nobody has done anything.

I'm currently talking to the Nintendo customer service chat. I'll see what information I can get.

EDIT: Here's what the Nintendo customer service rep told me: "It doesn't look like there's anything particular going on, but I'd try to wait for a little longer. If by the end of the day, you're still receiving this error, I'd recommend giving us a call directly to see if this is something that we'd need to troubleshoot further either in regards to the Internet connection or the game/DLC itself."

There's a regularly scheduled maintenance tomorrow.  So maybe they'll catch it then.  I just got back from being out and about.  Saw "Logan."  Depressing, but a good movie.  I just wish they used a different storyline to send off Hugh Jackman, but it does allow for HIM as Logan to move on.

In anycase, I'll give a call in a little bit myself.  More calls = more emphasis to check.  Plus I need to check up on DQ7 and the fixes related to that.

Fun fact, Logan came out on the same day as Breath of the Wild, Switch, and on my birthday. I guess I could try giving Nintendo a call as well, if they see more people are calling in, then they'll be more likely to fix it, right? Who knows really.

Ok, so I had a long talk with a Nintendo employee as well, and here's the ghist of what she said:

"The error code, on their end, is based on server maintenance, as in normal maintenance that hasn't finished yet."  So I guess that helps, but they have no specific data referencing issues to DQ8, like what Dakhil reported.  However, she did put a highlight on this connecting my call with the error code covering DQ8 in their database.  So any goes.

I also called up on DQ7, and nothing so far on any potential fixes for the two major and glaring bugs, but she did put in a second ticket for me, for both.

What DQ7 bugs are those?

Maribel Bug - game breaking if triggered and you save.

At the very end of the game, when you can switch party members at will, after the final dungeon is open, if you put Maribel in your party, and take her back to certain areas of the past, and witness events in those areas, she will be removed from the party, and the 4th slot will forever be locked off as a null slot.  Maribel's character will be present on top of whatever character was left in her place.  When you go to her room, you'll find both the character you left there and Marible occupying the same spot.

So you'll have a permanent 3 character party, always unable to fill in that final spot.

Where it breaks the game further is that, if you enter the final dungeon, and the place where you use any of the four amulets to enter one of the four final sections with the special gear, that lead into Orgodemir's lair, the game checks for your party members, and when it finds that last slot empty, it locks the game.  Meaning you cannot beat the game.  You cannot gather ungathered equipment, or meet with any of the monsters present in those final areas, nor can you snag that Fragment in the ending sequence to enter the first bonus dungeon.

How it's triggered/Places it's triggered:

1) Hubble, past, the Grand Conjuratorium.  If you have NOT completed the Great Leveller and The Greater Leveller sidequests earlier, with Aishe in your party (she's only required for The Greater Leveller), and you speak to The Wiz with Maribel in your party, the bug triggers.

2) Aeolus Vale, past, special cutscene across the bridge on the East bank.  If Maribel is in your party, and you witness this scene, the bug will trigger.  This scene is only available after the final dungeon is accessible.

3) There may be more, but if so, they would ONLY be in the three areas Maribel was not present for in the main storyline.  So Hubble (past) ONLY for the second half of the Great Leveller quest, the part where you get The GREATER Leveller.  Aeolus Vale (past), Vogograd (past), and Buccanham (past).  I only note this because it's possible something might still be present, or a left-over scene from when you were initially there that wasn't seen the first time through that MAY trigger it.  I should like to note that no one who has thoroughly tested out this bug has triggered it anywhere but the two mentioned above, as it doesn't seem like either Vogograd or Buccanham have any extra scenes that appear after the final dungeon.  The past in other areas has also been thoroughly vetted with all characters.

How to avoid and allow Maribel to safely travel ANYWHERE:

 - Make sure Maribel is NOT in your party, and assure both known trigger points are taken care of first.

Once done, Maribel can safely enter your party and no issues will occur, as the triggers are done and over with, permanently in that save.  You'd have to do the same in another save should it occur there.

Monster Meadows Bug - locks off full usage of the park, but is not game breaking

This bug is only AFTER completing the park.  How it works is that once you give the park manager the final NORMAL game monster, so all of the 282 from the base game, that's carried over from the PSX version, are present in the park and accounted for, NO extra monsters can be sent to the park manager.  He simply will not initiate the dialogue that allows him to take those tamed monsters and put them into the park.

What this affects:

1) DLC monsters not yet recruited.

2) Barns, you cannot fill in barns anymore.  So any desired map with multiples of a single monster that's not already present in a barn, when the park is deemed "complete" cannot be added to a barn, even if that monster is placed in a barn, only one will ever be present there.  So any monsters in a barn that are then removed, after the park is "complete" will be lost forever, just the initial monster is left, but all the extras are gone into the ether, never to be farmed again.

Avoidance?:

Cannot avoid, so once you feel like you've collected all the DLC monsters, or whatever number of them satisfy you, and once all barns are filled up to your satisfaction with your favourite monsters, assuming you feel like using them, then tame that last monster or group of normal game monsters you haven't tamed yet, and complete the park.

Well, Platty doesn't give a damn about the Maribel bug, as he doesn't use her once he doesn't have to.

Don't know how he feels about the Monster Meadows one.

While that's exactly what we needed to hear, I feel sad that it wasn't due to the change of time. I REALLY wanted a perfectly valid excuse to post this.

Actually I imagine the change in time actually IS the issue.  The problem is the employee had an utter lack of knowledge, had no specifics, and had to look up what that error code refers to, more specifically.

That it's been ongoing for 3 days now suggests it started with a routine maintenance to update/prime the server for daylight savings time.  It borked the timing, and the server itself still thinks its in maintenance mode or something along those lines.  These sorts of updates don't take much time.  The bigger issue is double checking all programs tied to server timers, which can be locked out of working properly if they aren't designed to self-align and adjust, which is probably what's happened.  I don't think Japan uses Daylight Savings time, and I don't think they engineered the code to account for it, so someone would have to update the actual program to the proper time slot manually.

Meaning more tickets = better chance someone actually checks on this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time_by_country

Yeah, Japan doesn't observe DST.  That's probably THE core issue, the physical server clock is moved an hour ahead of the game server clock.

Apparently, the DLC server is fixed for people in Europe, and they got the Healie Hat. However, the DLC server is not fixed for people in North America, so let's hope it's fixed by tomorrow.

Agreed. But then again, this is Nintendo of America, and Nintendo of America's being like

Edit: On second thought, this happened to me.

Sorry for the double post, but a new DLC item is available for download!

gallery_79921_117_3744449.png

I don't know if Nintendo will continue the "new item available every 2 weeks" schedule for the DLC items, or Nintendo will start having new DLC items available every week. But it seems like the new DLC items are available for download on a Saturday after 11am (PST).

They've also changed this around again.  Now we're just getting the main DLC item each week.  I actually hope this keeps up, and they reset it to allow people who missed the first go around, another chance at DLC items.  Would be nice if after this, they do it where each day you get one for two weeks.  That way it wouldn't force people to pay attention over the course of months.

BTW, Dakhil, how is that case?  Would you recommend it, and what is it called?  I'm looking into external protection, as I've rubbed away a fair portion of the backside of my N3DS.

I really like the protective case I'm using on my small New Nintendo 3DS model.

It's called the Hori Duraflexi Cover, which can only be obtained through importing from Japan if you have the small New Nintendo 3DS model like I have.

But if you have the New Nintendo 3DS XL model, you can easily find the Hori Duraflexi Cover on Amazon.

You know, I decided to break out DQ8 to get this t-shirt item for my second file, but it seems I can't get the Healie Hat or whatever it was from the last distribution now.

Bah.

I did the same thing. I took a break from the DLC because of the server issues. And I missed out from it. I guess it can't be helped now.

It seems like Nintendo decided to have DLC items available for download every Saturday after 11am (PST), because I tried to download a DLC item at 6:28pm (PST) today and I got a new DLC item: a hearty ring!
