McMarbles 9
I just realized I never did the Lady's Ring quest. Is postgame too late? You aren't missing much. Just a Seed of Wisdom. Yes, but I'm forever stuck with the knowledge that I didn't do everything.
Stepchan 192
Ah yeah, Im going to have to do those at some point. I was keeping up with em until around argonia or so and I stopped for some reason. Something I found strange is that there is two Golden Slime photo quests for Ascantha. I don't currently see a second Golden Slime, so unless I missed one on the way down to the castle I imagine it's in a currently inaccessible area around there.

Stepchan 192
I found it. ^ Finished with the Pickham story arc and talked to Brains. Next up is a little Casino time(just enough to get some tokens built up and some items for alchemy), Codex quests and backtracking for two of the infamous monsters on Morrie's list before heading back to Port Prospect. Side Note: The Trap Box got really vicious towards the end of the fight when I fought it. I'm pretty sure this was just a roll of the RNG, but it started doing critical blows almost every turn in the final rounds. Edited March 3, 2017 by Stepchan
SlimeVagrant 143
I'm going back and doing photo quests. I need to kill 30 treefaces but I can't seem to find any after postgame. All I can find are the dark versions of them. Anyone know where I can find them specifically? Edit: never mind, found them in the same spot as before the dark enemies showed up, just wasn't finding them for some reason. Edit2: Just got the gothic set for the hero! Love the way it looks. Maxrebo 23
I just did the Royal Hunting and boy is Prince Charmles a douche or what. Now I got to collect some treasure around Argonia that I haven't got yet, then recharge the mirror before I head to Dark Ruins and Dhoulmagus. But I am gonna taking a little break what with the Switch and Breath of the Wild coming tommorow(technically later today) But I do have some questions whose answers will be useful for when I come back. Here is my party's current status Hero Lv:28 Dream Blade,Silver Mail,Steel Shield,Mercury's Bandana,Slime Earrings Sword:46,Spears: 25 Courage:35 Yangus Lv 27 Bandit Axe,Silver Cuirass,Iron Shield,Iron Mask,Slime Earring Axes:54,Scythes:35,Humanity:22 Jessica Lv 26 Snakeskin Whip Cloak of Evasion White Shield Sliver Tiara Slime Earring Whips:56,Staves:31,Sex Appeal:10 Angelo Lv 26 Eros Bow Velvet Cape White Shield Platinum Headgear Templars Ring Bows:50,Staves:21,Charisma:21 Gold:29728 So my questions are 1.What level would recommend my party before tackling the Dark Ruins and Dhoulmagus 2.What the best Alchemy Pot Items I should make for my party before heading to the Dark Ruins 3.I haven't to do any part of the Monster Arena Sidequest except for opening the Arena and naming my team, any tips. 4.For leveling and money purposes what are the best ways to kill Liquid Metal Slimes since Hatchet Man has even higher miss rate than in other games, and what's the best way to make Gold. Sword_of_Dusk 380
1. You're good if you don't mind a challenge. If you want to trivialize things, get Angelo to level 30. 2. I can't think of stuff off the top of my head. If no one else pipes up, I'll try to recall what I was using. Oh, actually I do have one suggestion. Alchemize the Platinum Mail for Angelo. You'll need the Zombie Mail, found on the same island as the Dark Ruins, and some Saint's Ashes. To get those... 3. ...Head to the Monster Arena. Grab Hackzilla, Potbelly, and Brickman and clear it up to Rank F. After that, you might consider recruiting Capers. Whether you do or don't, proceed with the Arena up to Rank D. Once that is cleared, go recruit Talos and Dumbking, swap your team around however you like, then do Rank C. That will net you an urn of Saint's Ashes, which you can then immediately use. Save Rank B and above for a little later. 4. Hatchet Man is still your best bet, along with Thunder Thrust. Eventually, you will learn the advanced versions of those moves, Executioner and Lightning Thrust, which will have the usual rates of effectiveness. Executioner is learned at 66 Axes, while Lightning Thrust is learned at 59 Spears.
ErdrickRotoLotoOrtega 183
I have a few questions now that I'm in the post game: -In regards to Red and Morrie--which party members is it better to swap them both out for? In other words--I don't want to "downgrade" my party in some way by swapping Red and Morrie in there. Suggestions? -What is the best level to be on in order to defeat the Lord of the Dragovians? At level 51, we were MURDERED by him. Absolutely murdered. -STELLA is in this game? I saw people posting pictures of Stella. I really need to start consulting a guide now, I guess. Now that I 100% completed Dragon Quest VII for the first time in my life, I feel an urge to go that extra mile with VIII.
SlimeVagrant 143
I beat the Lord of the Drakovians around that level with little trouble. As for switching out party members it really depends on the situation. I switch my party around so much that I don't really have a "main" team. Everyone is Good in there own way. Here's how I have my team set up right now and their strengths. Hero (Max Spear, 90 Courage, and currently leveling swords) - Good All around stats with a variety of excellent support moves with cheeses and call monster team (Wizards O' Z OP). You can't remove him from your party so it doesn't really matter. Yangus ( Max Axes, 82 Humanity, currently leveling Scythes) Best Defense, with best single hit damage (to maximize Oomph's Effectiveness) I'll sometimes take him into bosses for the helm splitter support and he's pretty much the only person I oomph on my team since everyone else mostly does either multihit attacks or magic. I like to keep prayer rings on him to use with Kerplunk and Share Magic. Jessica (Max Whips and Sex Appeal, currently leveling Staves) Best Magic Attacker and most versatile support. I almost always use her in long dungeons due to her many Multi-Target Magic Spells and status afflictions. In bosses her Kafrizzle is nothing to sneeze at and I've even gotten away with using her as a secondary healer using Tension with Hustle Dance (Will be even better once I max Staves for Kazing) Angelo (Max Bowes and Staves, 27 Charisma, Currently Leveling Fisticuffs) Best Defensive Support. with almost all of the healing spells in the game and Buff/Kabuff He's generally good to have around. He really shines for me in long dungeons being able to Sustain MP easily using Seraph's Arrow or Auto MP recovery with Staves. I often find him not having much to do in bosses other than healing so I usually give him a Timbrel of Tension. Morrie (Max Boomerangs, Max Passion, currently leveling Claws) Best Offensive Support being able to boost allies' tension with Intensso is a godsend when bossing especially with someone else using a timbrel (I often get red to Max tension in a single turn using Intensso, Timbrel, and Psyche up) He's got some decent support spells too with Oomph, Sap, and Kazing. Doesn't really do a whole lot of damage himself but he makes an excellent cheerleader. Red (Max Knives and Roguery, currently leveling Fans) Best Damage. I can't get anyone to do nearly as much damage as her when she uses a high-tension blade cascade against a boss. It is absolutely rediculous how much damage she can pull off especially with Morrie's Offensive Support. I almost always take her against bosses and I love/hate having her out on the field and in dungeons. On one hand I love the passive extra gold/stealing she can do. On the other hand I struggle to have her do much multi-target damage. I imagine once I get points into fans I'll have her use those on the field and Swords in bosses. Having Fullheal on someone with as much agility as her is also really nice. tldr; everyone's got their own strengths so it doesn't really matter who you use, but only how you use them. Personally I can usually get away with using any combination of party members even though I really hate taking red out of my team.

In my past PS2 playthroughs, it did do crit attacks to members of my party. The only real difference was that those attacks were spread further out between other actions. This was the first time I seen it this frequent in battle (albeit during the last rounds), with one Fuddle spell between the lot of crits. Thank goodness it targeted my character and Yangus when doing those.

Dakhil 330
I'm almost done with 100%ing Dragon Quest VIII. I just need to finish 1 more photo quest to complete Cameron's Index (the one where you need to take a photo of the walking corpse in the secret shop in Arcadia after buying 6 Seeds of Skill from him (I have 4 more to buy, which means 4 more days)) and kill a couple of recruitable monsters. After so many days and so many restarts, I've finally got all 5 Stellas. And this has to be said. F**k you Stella. F**k you. Edited March 4, 2017 by Dakhil

I immediately had Kabuff being cast and lost party members with one hit kills apiece before I even had a chance to heal/kazing. Am I missing something here? A good heal/kabuff combo has never done me wrong in a Dragon Quest boss battle. In fact, I manage to beat Lo Mein an Chow Mein in DQIV on upper 30's levels using that trick. In the case of THIS boss fight, they were dead before I had a CHANCE and they were at FULL health! I only tried it once so far. Is this battle at all like the battle with God (IE: a game of chance where you sometimes have better runs with him than others?)?
SlimeVagrant 143
Assuming you're talking about the first time you fight him (before the trials and whatnot) yeah. He was able to OHKO most of my team but only with single target hits. I was able to easily outspeed him with Angelo so I could easily Kazing them. I used a few highly strung cheese with timbrel of tension to do a ton of damage to him so the fight didn't last too long. The only defensive spell (besides healing/reviving) I bothered with was Insulatle. Makes his breath attacks an absolute joke. SlimeVagrant 143
Just completed my first Dragovian Trial and unlocked Memories Lane. Seems to be somewhat of a boss rush area (if all the bosses were on steroids). I beat the first two bosses there but I think I'm going to back out and go salt mining for better cheese. You're right--he's not that difficult. I also found Dragon Slash to be quite effective. I had the hero Oomph'd up and using Dragon Slash, Yangus Oomph'd up and using Paralax, Angelo healing, Oomph'ing, Kazing'ing an occasionally using Falcon Slash and Jessica Oomph'ing, Insulatle casting, Kazing'ing an occasionally using the Sage's Stone. I'm surprised by how easy he was. Thanks for the advice! I actually never used Insulatle in a Dragon Quest game before. I never felt a need for it. Now I see just how effective it truly is.
