Dragon Quest VIII Progress

Defeated the wand-waving bimbo. She was absolutely abusing kasnooze and kafrizzle.

Anyways, thanks for mentioning the Dhoulmagus cutscene at Kaldarasha's place, Yangus. I would have totally missed it.

Curious if anyone knows how to see the added scenes with Medea and the hero's first meeting? Is it optional or added into the story at some point?

Sorry for reviving a dead post but I recently started playing the 3DS version of 8.  I'm just after the part where you help the mourning king. Found that amazing area that spawns Metal slimes and

Look at Mr. "I employ a proper strategy" over here. Thinking ahead and being prepared.

Blade Cascade is a wonderful attack skill. It's very much worth the investment in knives. Combine it with a Liquid Metal Sword and she's a metal killing machine.

I'm guessing you have to go back to Kaldarasha again like the Dhoulmagus scene. That's what I'm going to try after completing major areas.

Currently at Peregrin Quay. Did a bunch of alchemy recipes and leveled up Jessica to 10. Will continue after I get her to 12.

In some ways, the instant alchemy is difficult to get used to.

Also found out the hard way that making Turbans is no longer a viable money building option as it equals out to what the 2 Bandanas cost(unless I'm missing something).

Something I forgot to mention before: if you sleep at an inn after becoming Champion of the Monster Arena, Medea will congratulate the hero via dream sequence and comment that Morrie has now joined the team.

On another note, for those far enough, are there any alchemy recipes for stronger claws within the Orkust area? His damage from the Iron Claw he starts with is fine, but I'm wondering if there isn't something stronger I could make.

If you can get a hand on a Flametang Boomerang, you can make a Fire Claw. However, unless you find one in a chest, they don't become buyable ever, far as I know.

I'd say make a Flametang Boomerang, but that requires a Flame Shield, which isn't buyable until Empycchu, and requires a Flametang Boomerang to be alchemized! Maybe you'll find a claw in that area's dungeon.

I sped through the game, I've done pretty much everything I can think of except a couple of picture quests I'm still working on. I'm on Dhoulmagus' 1st form in Memories Lan, I've come close but he's goving me a hell of a time.

If I recall correctly I believe you can buy a fire claw at some point in the game, I forget when though. I think it might have been Tryan Gully.

I always found it funny that to make a Flametang Boomerang, you needed a Flame shield, but to make it, you needed a Flametang Boomerang.

I want to make the Flame Tang, but I don't think I'm far enough along to do it right now.

It's played as part of the story when the group's locked in Purgatory Island.

Anyway, I'm at the final boss. He lucked out with the RNG on my last attempt, so I went and got Jessica a level with the power of Dragon Graveyard so she can learn Hustle Dance.

I'll most likely beat him tomorrow.

Umm...what the hell is up with Marek saying, "It is good to see you again, my friends," when you take him to Orkust like he wants? He was JUST with us and wanted us to take him home. I'm honestly curious why he now says this and received a change. It's clearly new dialogue because his voice acting sounds noticeable different from his prior spoken lines.

Morrie can go $#!& himself. His LMS and Skeledoid and Steropes being dumb enough to keep attacking it with no results cost me the fight. I'll try again, but I'm liable to just move on with the story.

That's just how it goes against Morrie's team. From my understanding, your monsters tend to focus (but not always) on the enemy with the lowest amount of health. With Morrie's LMS being in slot 1 and having the lowest HP of the three, he's perfect shielding fodder. It's quite brilliant in my opinion.

I got a critical from Steropes in that fight, so it knocked out his LMS right away. Funny enough, Steropes proceeded to crit his own Curer on the next turn.

Oh my Almighty...things have gotten REALLY awkward at Le Club Puff Puff. They've added voice clips for the characters (excluding the hero of course) while they are blindfolded and before revealing the "twist," of the club, and...well, let's just say Morrie REALLY gets into it.

Though it was hilarious that Yangus and Angelo started giggling about the whole thing.

Geez, I lost to Rhapthorne again. Beat me once, shame on you, beat me twice, shame on me. I need to change something here.

At least I didn't have to pray again.

This is legitimately the first time I've ever struggled with this boss, and I've played the game a few times before, the first time was without Timbrel and with weird weapon choices. I might try making Red the Timbrel next time so that Jessica can freely Hustle...

Ugh, off to Charmles' place.

I think the whole Charmles is my least favorite vignette of Dragon Quest VIII.

Favorite part is Ascantha. Fun little detour.

I like that part of Argonia as well. He's such a jerk but his dialogue can be funny, particularly how he pronounces his "r's." He's just like Elmer Fudd, you lazy wascals!

Actually, Charmles makes me think this is what would happen if you crossed Kiefer and Maribel. You have a prince who doesn't care to succeed the throne and would rather do his own thing while having a personality that makes him scoff at everyone around him and thinking he's perfect.

Maribel.

Triggered.

Metal Slimes, Casino prize, use Kazing whenever she dies, she's a killer queen, frizzle, boom, and sizzle too, walk with her you walk with doom.

There is a woman in a house in Pickham that looks exactly like Maribel, but in her 20s or so. She's too submissive in her conversational text, but it looks exactly like her.
