Dragon Quest III Help with Baramos - Solo Hero

I am in the middle of a solo hero game and I am at Baramos and cannot defeat him. It almost seems as though his HP is infinite. I am playing the Android version so I am assuming he has the same amount of HP as in the SFC/GBC version which is 2,500. I am Level 48. I have Orochi's sword and stopspell. Just how much HP does he recover each round. I even have the Thunder Sword and Blade Armor. What am I doing wrong?

There's no way to really answer your question without actually showing you.  You're not doing anything wrong, except that your stats likely suck and you're not dealing nearly enough damage per round to offset the healing.  Remember, ANY round you cast Fullheal, is a round he gets a free 90~110 regen, so if you're dealing 125 average, and healing every 5 rounds, that's a rough average of 125 damage done until a healing round, then only 25 damage done every 6 rounds.  That's 600 rounds you'd require to beat him.  Well, 597 to be exact, give or take 1 or 2, or upwards of 12 up or down depending on your luck with his regen.

 

Baramos also goes twice per round more often in the SFC/iOS/Android/original mobile than in the GBC, so your experience there won't give you much to work with, as he's MUCH easier.

OOOOh, I do now notice a flaw in your strategy.

 

EQUIP the Mask of Implacability.

 

Confusion in DQ3 DOES NOT TARGET SELF.

The Mask of Implacability is one of the most useful, and one of the worst
pieces of equipment in Dragon Quest III.  The mask causes confusion (same
effect as Fuddle), which is only dangerous when in a party.

On characters confusion will only allow for attacking characters, and unlike in
later Dragon Quest releases, all versions of Dragon Quest III never allow a
character to "waste" a turn or be idle.  They only ignore commands if fellow
party members are present and alive.  Solo, the character always follows
commands!

So what does this mean?  It means when the Mask of Implacability is equipped,
if other party members are alive or present, the Mask of Implacability user may
ignore commands and attack that other party member.  However, if the
Mask of Implacability user is the only one alive he/she will not disregard
inputs/commands, and will always do as told.

Given the Mask of Implacability has by far the highest Defense boost of any
piece of equipment in the game, it is VERY useful in a solo playthrough.
Granted it's cursed so once put on, it cannot be taken off unless you want the
item destroyed.

Perhaps there are behavioural changes if more than one monster is present, but
I would require further testing.

The only time it is really necessary is in boss fights.

So, let's recap.

Mask of Implacability Positives:

1) No idle behaviour.
2) If no other party members are present or alive, character will not attempt
   to disregard commands and attack party members.
3) Equipped character will NEVER attack self.
4) Highest Defense boost in the game, allowing for very high base defense,
   which is useful in certain battles, most importantly certain bosses such as
   Orochi, Boss Troll, Baramos, King Hydra, Bones of Baramos,
   Zoma (Sphere of Light), and Xenlon.  Even Soul of Baramos, especially if
   Fizzled, is far less a threat.
5) Every character can equip it.

Mask of Implacability Negatives:

1) If other party members are present, there is a high chance equipped player
   will disregard commands and attack other party members.
2) Cursed...meaning a Priest has to take it off, and thus destroying it in the
   process.
3) No special reductions, but then only the Ortega Helm has special reductions.
   So this has no impact on solo plays with any class other than the Hero.


So the trick is to ONLY USE this Helmet when running a solo game, regardless of
class!  Have fun!

That's kind of gone. I used it with I believe Orochi and then I had to un-curse myself which of course gets rid of it.

Wow...Zoma will be a $#!&@ for you to tackle then.

 

I would say...you're going to need at least 46 more STR (minimum 220 is required for this, and that assumes you have to heal only once ever 10~15 rounds), or it's going to be a long battle, and you have to hope your MP lasts.

 

Given that lack...I would say Valiant Bracer is required.  So you need natural maxed Agility to make up for the lack of +200 Defense.  The Meteorite Bracer is going to slow you down just due to that relationship.

 

You need MUCH higher stats

Make 3 Clerics, buy them good gear.  If you feel better about it, kill off the Hero, then level the Clerics until they know at least Zing and Fullheal.  Then transition to Thief.  Then buy them the best Thief gear, and level up to about 33 MINIMUM.  This isn't as hard as it seems.  You can easily train near Mur for the best exp.  Plus the beaks that appear around there have a 1/16 shot at dropping a seed of agility.  So you can farm those while leveling, and then stick around and farm some more, until you have enough to bring the Hero up to 255.

Seed of Strength?

 

Hit up Theddon, Rampage you want.  Also good are the seed of luck drops from the heedoo voodoo's there.  Luck affects natural status resistance.


Just in case:

 

Seed of Life - Tower of Transcendence, you want to kill the Ethereal Serpents.  Top three floors for the best spawns of that dragon.

Cool, you're nearly there.  Good luck with the battle.  The problem with this form is there's no middle-ground.  Either he becomes easy or he'll force you to outlast him and hope you don't succumb sometime in there, or run out of MP, and you're praying you get just enough crits to offset.

Cool, you're nearly there.  Good luck with the battle.  The problem with this form is there's no middle-ground.  Either he becomes easy or he'll force you to outlast him and hope you don't succumb sometime in there, or run out of MP, and you're praying you get just enough crits to offset.

 

Now what happens with the Sky Dragon and the other optional boss because I am playing the Android version so what are my plans for them? Pretty much the same for Zoma?

Only the GBC has the second optional boss.  Unfortunately.  I REALLY want to see a new version of DQ3 that incorporates that dungeon and boss (and actually makes him difficult)...especially for the weapon you gain :).  Rubiss Sword is my favourite sword in that game.  It's just so broken an fun.

 

Though essentially...yeah, same deal.  Though without the uber helmet, it's going to be a bit harder taking on uber (no light orb) Zoma.  If you're aiming for that.  Still doable, but you'd want like 300 MP (and 999 HP) around that anyway, just to be sure, given his defense is so blasted high you'll want at least 15 rounds between healing just to make sure you damage him sufficiently not to worry about that 100 HP regen.

 

Sky Dragon/Divinegon/Shenlong/Shinryu/Xenlon is both easier and harder.

 

No regen to deal with, but you still want about 750 minimum HP, just in case he puts you to sleep, which is guaranteed, and his physical attacks can be more devastating than Zoma's.  I believe his body roll ignores player defense...checking:

 

Yep, ok when he rolls over the party, he ignores defense.  When he chews on you, he deals 1.5x damage.

 

So essentially it works like this:

Flops = 136~207 (cannot reduce, but you CAN dodge it...not like it matters, since it's better to use reduction and defense gear, so ignore the Cloak of Evasion)

Chews = (400 - YOURDefense/2)*7/8 *1.5 *(.39~.59) = damage range

 

So plug in that defense!  279 or 287 (male or female)

133~202 if Male

131~199 if Female

 

Given his double turn rate, if you're asleep, which can last up to 3 rounds, that can spell game over...given his propensity to take certain actions, and bear in mind, this is old DQ, so no pattern, it's just random (so he can use Flop or Chew both rounds if the RNG hates you, each or together...all 3 rounds!).

 

So...yeah.  Good luck!

 

Realize one thing.  It is 100% impossible, given game mechanics, to defeat Xenlon in the time necessary to achieve a single wish.  It's not even that it's probable, close to 0, it's literally 0% chance.  It cannot happen, even if he never once uses stare, and even if he never once goes twice in the same round.  Even if you go in with a Falcon Blade, and critical hit every single attack, and by some miracle only have to heal once every 5~6 rounds, you still won't make that first 25 rounds.

 

Well...ok with a tool assist it would be doable.

 

Requires him using only his weaker break attack every round, only going once each round, and you critical hitting either every hit or nearly every hit with a Falcon Blade.

Okay so I beat Zoma solo but since I can't get a wish granted solo, I guess I better bring my Thieves to the slaughter to open up the second dungeon.

Uh...in the mobile there is no second dungeon.  The main point of the wishes is just for Ortega.  That's it...oh, and the infinite wish.
