Announced for China

Recommended Posts

Square Enix has announced that they are planning on releasing Dragon Quest X in China this year. The official website is up but it only allows people to register their cellphone number for now to get more announcements. http://dq.sdo.com/web1/index.html

There is a video out somewhere with Horii talking about it but I have not found that yet.

Man, they're never gonna release this outside Asian territories, are they?

I don't think Platty visits the X board much.

(And as soon as I post this he'll probably show up.)

Are you kidding? I read every message around here.

Glad to see they finally clarified their "other countries" comment from like 3 years ago. Yep, we all guessed it, China.

As for the US? Duh. It's not coming.

How hard is it to localize it for China? It's gotta be just as hard as localizing it for any other country right? Does Dragon Quest sell well in China? Maybe they'll do it for other regions? Nope, nope, nope, already fooled by that April post I won't get my hopes up. If for some reason it ever comes it comes, but if it doesn't it doesn't, oh well.

Trust me you lot... even if it's in Engrish...

We don't want a Chinese knockoff of DQXI.

Wait is Nintendo localizing it? With how much they censor there localizations who knows what they'll do to it. Huh this would make a good topic.

(Please don't take this seriously)

No, China in general has a hostile attitude to outside culture, at least Government wise.

They'll gut DQX.

Just ask Blizzard with world of warcraft on how chinese dealt with one of its expansions.

This is -extremely likely- that it's some Chinese company paying a royal $#!&ton to SE to try to publish DQX there.

Even if it's SE's IP, I can see them allowing it to be localized there if it's paid for.

  • 5 months later...

It only took that long? Did they had a lot of the work done beforehand upon announcement or they just rushed it out hard somehow?  If they decided to localize it to the west and in at least 3 languages wouldn't it take at least 6 months?

I have to assume they were working on it before they officially announced it because 5 months seems incredibly short for an mmorpg. I don't know how long it would take to translate to 3 languages. It depends on the manpower and how much time they put into it. Seeing that it took 5 months from official announcement to being playable is still very, very fast.
