Sykonee 17
S'up, denizens of the Den. Been a while since I was last here. Am utterly consumed with an insane project, y'see. A few years back, I took it upon myself to review Every. Single. Item. within my music collection, all in alphabetical order. I've finally reached the latter sections of 'S', which include the DQ Symphonic Suites. Figured I'd pop in to provide a linky if anyone's interested in some bloggy thoughts on these CDs. And, y'know, say "hi" to all the old faces (Woodus! Plattym3! Dwaine! redneckpride! Pendy?) and "yo" to the new ones (holy cow, so many new ones!). I should mention these reviews aren't as detailed as my aborted attempts from way back on the old DQNN days (remember those? Aces if so!). A 'gimmick' of my blog is limiting myself to only 500 words per review, which keeps things concise, tidy, and breezy. With box-sets though, I review each disc individually, so the original Symphonic Suite box-set'll get 7 out of the deal, plus an additional one for DQ8. Also, I tend to crank these out on the daily, so I'll be posting a new link each day as well (unless this is considered too spammy, in which case I'll stop). As for why I'm reviewing orchestral music on a blog titled Electronic Music Critic, umm... oh, look, a Metal Babble over there! *Sykonee tries to escape, but the path was blocked* Anyhow, here's the first one. Enjoy! http://emcritic.blogspot.ca/2015/12/koichi-sugiyama-symphonic-suite-dragon.html
Erdrick The Hero 969
Hey there, Sykonee! I don't think you were active much if at all after I joined, but I've read many a post of yours from old threads. It's nice to see the old members popping back in. Slime Master just returned, too! Plattym3 2,451
I got carded at the grocery store yesterday, so 😜 to your "old face" comment! Hahaha, nice to see you around Sykonne! That's one heck of an ambitious project you have there!
Sykonee 17
Hey there, Sykonee! I don't think you were active much if at all after I joined, but I've read many a post of yours from old threads. It's nice to see the old members popping back in. I think I petered out sometime in 2012. Somehow felt longer than that, but without any significant new DQ games around, I always feel burned out talking up the same old topics again and again. On the other hand, I haven't splurged on any systems since the DS, keeping me firmly out of the loop on most new games anyway. That's one heck of an ambitious project you have there! And I sure don't make things easier on myself, what with constantly buying new music all the time. I broke the 1,000 mark in my CD collection this year. Here's review number two, of CD2, towns and such: http://emcritic.blogspot.ca/2015/12/koichi-sugiyama-symphonic-suite-dragon_20.html

Plattym3 2,451
Must have been made with some interesting roots!
Slime Master 105
@Platty: Perhaps the root beer was made using the mythical Bacchus Roots? Edited December 21, 2015 by Slime Master
Woodus 1,655
Could have been Not Your Fathers root beer (love that stuff, best if you can get it on tap).

Sykonee 17
Never heard about that brand of root beer. I take it it's like Barqs, but with real bite.

Bururian 570
I liked these reviews. I keep wanting to buy Symphonic Suites of the DQ music, but I had a hard time making the decision if I will like the collection or not. I've been eyeing this one on Play-Asia for a while. Have you heard it? I'd like to know if it's decent before I spend the almost $30 after shipping on it. http://www.play-asia.com/symphonic-suite-dragon-warrior-i-ii-dragon-quest-i-ii/13/703f88

If it's a re-recording of the DQ2 suites, that might be worth looking into. I'd assume the arrangements are about the same though. In the meanwhile, here's review #3: http://emcritic.blogspot.ca/2015/12/koichi-sugiyama-symphonic-suite-dragon_21.html
Sykonee 17
And another review is up. Just a machine, I is: http://emcritic.blogspot.ca/2015/12/koichi-sugiyama-symphonic-suite-dragon_22.html Also, that first review is now the second most viewed post at the blog for the past month, beating out more popular proper electronic artists like Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, Tiga, Faithless, and Eurythmics. Gee, how did that happen?
Sykonee 17
Decided to wait until the rest of the reviews were done before posting them here, otherwise this thread would get all too spammy for my liking. Thus: CD5, Flying and Sailing: http://emcritic.blogspot.ca/2015/12/koichi-sugiyama-symphonic-suite-dragon_23.htmlCD6: Everybody's De-Mon Fighting: http://emcritic.blogspot.ca/2015/12/koichi-sugiyama-symphonic-suite-dragon_24.html CD7: WE WON! VIC-TOR-Y!: http://emcritic.blogspot.ca/2015/12/koichi-sugiyama-symphonic-suite-dragon_25.html Dragon Quest 8: That extra cherry on the top of the project: http://emcritic.blogspot.ca/2015/12/koichi-sugiyama-symphonic-suite-dragon_27.html Thanks all for reading and replying. I'll probably stick around the Den for a little while, until some other project starts consuming me again. (Hmm, there is still a story that needs finishing...)
Liamland 758
Sweet. I'll have to read through these. I'm a collector of DQ soundtracks, as well.
