Wondering about starting with the game

Recommended Posts

Hi, as a recently incorporated member of this community I would like to say that this is my first post ^^

I've always been a fan of the DQ saga starting with VIII-Monsters1-Monsters2 and thats why I always saw DQX as a imposible dream (?) due to the process of playing it in a jp server with no knowledge of the language, but finally, I've decided to learn japanese and also I would like to join the game knowing the pros and the cons it has.

Thats why I would like to ask the current western players of the game if its really worth it to invest on it, knowing the language limitations I'll encounter in the process (not being the actual mechanics of the mmorpg genre since I've been a end-game content player for a while in other mmos like ffxiv) and also if there're people of this community willing to do content together since I appreciate the social side of mmos.

Also I'll appreciate to have some help on the buying process since I already had some trouble with amazon.jp and my credit card addres (being a spanish one rather than a jp one of course) and I'm considering  buying it using the Squarenix jp store (playing like 11 euros more) if there's no other option that someone could know.

Saigan just resumed his Let's Play of DQX and a I know a few other Den members here play, though I don't know how many at this point. You'll need to have a VPN to play it, though I assume you know this already.

Well It's nice to know that this community has some guys currently playing the game tho ^^

But one way or another I'm still trying to figure out how to buy the game the "cheapest" way possible not using my credit card directly on amazon.jp with the "All in one" edit since I've tested that method already and doesn't work for mine.

I'm thinking about buying amazon gifs cards from a site call Japan-codes.com but I dont know if amazon will ask me to verify my location again (since in that case I'll be in the same situation as using my credit card).

This is really frustrating tho -.-

Your "location" doesn't need to match your Credit Card. You can still use your Credit Card.

Sign up for an account on http://www.tenso.com/en. They are an importing service, and will give you a Japanese Address to use on your Amazon Account. With a Japanese Address, Amazon will assume that you live in Japan and will let you purchase the All-In-One Package for DQX. Don't worry, you don't actually have to import anything. Buy the digital version. You'll be able to download it and you'll get keys via Amazon itself.

It's a little convoluted, but because JP MMOs are technically, "For residents of Japan only," that's why the extra authentication is required. It's very, very unlikely that anyone will ever actually get banned for being a foreigner. As long as you're not disrupting the community it's typical that the moderators don't really care and won't do anything to you. Learn the general etiquette, and you'll be fine (we can talk about that later if you're interested, but I'm pretty sure there's a thread somewhere on this as well).

As for why I play the game....well...it's fun. If you're interested in what it plays like, it's similar to DQIX with the class system and such, except the battle system is more appropriate for an MMO than a turn-based "everyone stands there" system. The game is enjoyable when you really start learning what you're doing and how to play. The main negative (in my opinion) is that the game is VERY grindy. But that's typical for Asian MMO's. They like their grind.

The thing is that I tried using a japanese direction from a hotel in Tokyo and all went good except when they asked me for my credit card "user direction", which is a european one and they only wanted a japanese one.

Then I inserted the false japanese location but of course, its not the real credit card user location, in that case the credit card info and the user address didn't match and amazon.jp cant access my money.

Thats why I'm thinking about buying with an amazon gift card but I heared that, for digital content, amazon.jp ask for a credit card verification even when you're using a gift card to purchase the content (that's because they want to ensure that no one outside of japan is trying to buy certain content like videogames).

So basically now I dont know what to do and I'm trying to find another way :(

(And actually now tenso also ask for a credit card verification so I'm in the same place)

The difference between Tenso and Amazon JP is that Tenso doesn't expect a Japanese card, so you'll be fine for them.

Though I have no experience with EU credit cards. I've only ever used US ones, so if there's an extra step with that that might be your problem.

An Amazon Gift Card MIGHT help you, but it also might not. Those things might be region locked, and some research before you buy one would be necessary. I've never used one outside of the region it was given to me from.

Another option is that I believe you can use Crysta to buy games on the Square Enix Marketplace. Crysta can be purchased by buying WebMoney JP cards, and then applying them to your account. You might also be able to use a WebMoney card directly on the store to buy the game. I've never done this, so I have no experience with it what so ever, but I believe that it is an alternative for you to look into as well.

In a worst case scenario, you can always use one of the pre-imported companies like Nippon Yasan, AmiAmi, or Play-Asia.

I'm trying also to get it using Webmoney at the squarenix jp online store but think I may need to hide my ip during the process.

Yeah, your able to purchase the game digitally through square e-store. That's how I did it. Make sure you have a Japanese square enix account and a japanese VPN on so you can bypass the purchase process.

I'd be interested in hearing what steps you take that work. I'm having some difficulties myself. Is paying for subscription time similarly challenging?

Subscription isn't as bad as you can use third party sites to pay. I use the rakuten site.

Hey Scarlata I'm also knew to this game so if you were trying to level and do stuff together I would be down to join you get into the game. Overall not even knowing the Japanese language the game is still fun over all. and I kinda got used to using all the Japanese websites to help me translate most of the quest. but all in all I am down to join in your adventures :D. I'm usually a support player or a tank so let me know whatcha need

For Tenso you put in your real address that matches up with your credit card. The site is aimed at people outside of Japan so there is no problem with you being a foreigner.

I bought the game using play-asia.  Painless process, just had to wait 2 weeks for the hard copy.  Trying to get on-line.  What servers do the players here typically use?  Thanks.

They incorporated a verification system to ensure you're who you say you are, to combat theft and fraud. Most online businesses do this kind of thing now because fraud and chargebacks are a serious issue (enough chargebacks can cost you your license to use Mastercard/Visa on your site).

As Mimas has said, Tenso is specifically built to work for foreigners trying to export Japanese products outside of Japan. You want to give your full actual information on Tenso and you should be fine. They usually ask for a sort of photo ID the first time around so that they can defend themselves if you were to try and screw them with a chargeback. That's normal.

I'm also fairly positive that you can use a foreign credit card to buy the game on Amazon. You just need a shipping address that's Japanese for it to let you buy the game. I just recently purchased something unrelated on Amazon JP and my Billing Address is my US address, but my Shipping Address is the Tenso Address I've been using for some time. Overall I think Amazon simply uses the same security; if you can't give the Billing Address they don't think you own the card. The important part when trying to buy the game is that you have a Japanese Address on file.

That aside, the SE Store is a viable alternative, although I've never done it. sands101's guide looks good, hopefully there are no further issues getting the game.

As kyodai said, we're typically on Server 33. Though, unlike other MMO's, there's only one actual server (that I'm aware of). It's more like a channel system. Some of the channels have a specific purpose, like 21 and 22 being for people who are streaming, but if you choose the wrong one it's not a big deal and you can still play with everyone.

I was able to buy the game today using webmoney and transfering it to crysta in order to do it.

Had some trouble since Play asia needed phone verification but after a while I did it.

I'm currently downloading the game and I already inserted the "Awakening of the five tribes" code, now I'm trying to figure out where to insert V2 code.

Thanks for all the help guys ^^

You need to install the full game. The trial has V1, I believe, but V2 is a separate download. You can play right now, but if you go into any area that requires V2 you will get an error and it won't let you in.

Yo Scarlata were you able to get the game and get started? Because you are able to run the game with the trial version you installed. Its like the full game with limitations. but all you need to do is add your game keys into your account so it will register it. Also when you get the games you have to install them so it can update the client when you get V2 and V3

I'm having a rough time purchasing the game. Square-Enix and Amazon both refused my card and WebMoney doesn't appear to operate in the United States, so I'm not sure how to proceed... I may have to buy a physical copy on play-asia, I guess.

you are able to get web money from play-asia also that's what I had to do to get my month subscription lol

The process I followed was this one.

1º Go to play asia

2º Buy 2 digital jp webmoney cards - one of 5000 and the other of 2000 / total of 60 euros

3º Go to your JP Squarenix Account and exchange your webmoney cards to Crysta / total of 7000 crysta

4º Get your JP VPN working because the Squarenix Store will block you from being outside from JP

5º Go to this link http://store.jp.square-enix.com/item/SEDL_1023.htmland click the orange button to add it to your cart

6º You'll be asked to insert your JP Squarenix Account info and one you do it you'll proceed to the shop.

7º Asuming you're JP Squarenix Account had already a japanese name and direction you'll need to insert a jp telephone number and your email

8º Remember to check your JP VPN or you wont be able to buy it

9º Then select crysta as your payment option and proceed to the next page (you wont need to enter your credit card info.

10º Confirm the cost of 5180 crysta on the following pay and proceed.

11º Then you'll be able to download the game and the codes of v1 and v2 will be sent to your account.

For me this was the most secure way of purchasing the game, being able to pay the monthly subscription with the remaining crysta you had in your account.
