I don't see Trunks in that character. In a video about the trailer some guys said he looks like Lapis(17).

I only recently started watching DBZ Abridged, and I've never watched any of the official Dragon Ball/Z anime. But I *think* I know who you are talking about... And I've been thinking that since I first saw the character. Hell, this guy looks more like Android 17 than Bianca does, and I've seen a lot of people compare her to Bianca.

People compare Bianca to Lazuli(18)? Bianca looks more like Lazuli than the main character(DQ XI) looks like Trunks or Lapis. It's like they only see the hair, Lapis has way different eyes than the hero.

Oops, mixed up 17 and 18 in my head. I haven't gotten that far in the show yet, so... I meant the blonde chick though.

I think that the colors on him don't blend very well (that purple and green). Well, the MC is not all that important, I want to see the other party members.

I'm really hoping he isn't customizable. This is one thing I just can't get behind with DQ IX. Every other DQ protagonist is so fascinating in their expression and their style. When you can just create your own custom generic character it seems to take away from the long-term story aspect of the game. I see the hero from DQ V or VII and I instantly remember who they are and what they've been through. You don't get that with custom characters.

I wouldn't mind seeing a female protagonist. My character in DQ IV was female.

He looks arrogant to me.  It's interesting that he has a slender build, but so were the heroes from VIII and IX.  Not a fan of the green boots, they stand out way too much.  It seems like they want a more mature and serious character as compared to a lot of other DQ games.

DQ IX has a default character for fan art. I hope they took notes from Dragons Dogma and you can have a custom character with emotion. And now voiced like Fallout 4.

I completely hope not. The voiced protagonist is what will kill Fallout 4 for me. When the protagonist is silent, there is a direct link between you and the world. You are the character. Making the character voiced cuts off that connection and severs the role your imagination serves for filling in the blanks. I'm glad Yuji Horii has some sense unlike Todd Howard. Here's an actual quote by Horii:

"H: Oh, yes? Generally speaking, I think having the protagonist speak alienates the player. He’s playing as though the character is an extension of himself, so why is his avatar suddenly speaking of its own accord? He’ll be struck with the realization that the character he’s been thinking of as himself up until now is actually someone else entirely. Having the protagonist speak for himself and decide own his own which way the story goes would make players uncomfortable."

Yuji Horii interview about the protagonist and more.

He's basically confirmed to be a set protagonist.

The main character probably will be silent, i guess it is for the best. i think there should be options though. In Fallout 4, there may be a option for a silent main character.

Didn't noticed the green boots as first, and now I can't see anything else...

I'm rather unimpressed by his looks, but at least he loks different.

If you have a speaking MC, you may ends up with Tidus.

And no one wants to be compared with Tidus.

That's the main reason I couldn't get into FFX.

What if it was optional to have a custom character?

I could see them making it optional, but it seems more likely just his clothes will just be customizable. Maybe we can give him a haircut if we're lucky. A lot of signs are pointing to set character look.

There needs to be a barber shop inside a casino that takes only tokens!

I hope it is a option to have a custom character. The series has always been about that "you are the hero" well, now DQ games are 3D so now we can have a custom character. that way there could be a stronger connection with you and the world of DQ.

I am really digging the look of eleven. He is really nailing that whole diligent hero look. Although the lack of any facial expressions does worry me considering this is on a powerful system.

It must only be in the early stages of development.

I wonder if we will have the choice of a male or female hero a la dragon quest 3 or 4? That would be pretty cool.

I think there should be a default(canon) look and a customizable choice for the player.  I can't wait until more info is leaked.

Yeah like DQ9. also Dragons Dogma and DragonBall Xenoverse.

While I'm rarely able to get access to gaming news like I used to, I think main character customization is the way to go. While my only experience with the series is 8 and 9, and it seems like the majority of main characters are silent, it would be a great (though time consuming for the staff behind the game) way to go. Even if there isn't a job class option, I like making variations of myself in games. It makes it more personal.

Who is this man with non-spiky hair? Surely he couldn't be a main character of an RPG? I demand spiky hair now!

Yeah, VI's hero could probably use his hair as his weapon :P

Personally, I have always enjoyed the silent protagonist with one iconic look approach. I hope this is just how he looks.

Besides, he looks like a combination of the dq8 protagonist, trunks and Android 17. I kind of love it.
