A way for us to show our support for Dragon Quest to Square Enix

Recommended Posts

I mean they COULD have picked multiple series.

What series are still present and being made?

1) Final Fantasy

2) Kingdom Hearts  <<-I'd bet my bottom dollar this would bring up a slew of new questions as well

3) Dragon Quest <<-seems they forget about this

4) Star Ocean <<-rumoured new game from internal sources coming out all the time, but they ARE remaking SO2 properly, so it still exists

5) Mana <<-we know they're talking about reigniting the Seiken Densetsu series, but official word on how that I'm aware of, so it STILL exists

SE needs special counseling.  Who wants to go in with me to start the Videogame Company Intervention Group?  The VCIG!

5 is really really exciting. If they actually did it correctly in 3D it would be really cool. But if they don't feel that adventurous I'd be happy with a new 2D Seiken Densetsu

Are you kidding me?  Square Enix is run by a bunch of idiots.  They own so many franchises, but all they care about is Final Fantasy, which is utter garbage these days.  I wish they'd just go bankrupt already.

Sighs...SE....

Agreed... Not sure why they are still focusing so hard on FF when FF has been officially buried since Hironobu Sakaguchi left. At least Yuji Horii is still the one making Dragon Quest games...

BTW I had no idea that Yuji Horii worked on Chrono Trigger. Never realized that til I googled it now.

Yeah, they called it the Dream Team, because Yuji Horii, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Akira Toriyama all worked on it together.

That image makes me think of you the TV theme song that goes "Now the world don't move, to the beat of just one drum..."

Sorry, that's all I've got to say... (Casts Evac)

I recognize Horii, but which one's Toriyama?

Lol, Toriyama is obviously the one with the glasses and the sketch pad in his hand.  I love that guy.  One of my biggest heroes growing up.

I feel like we are petitioning the wrong thing on this survey. We should be petitioning for the dream team to reunite one last time :whoa:

To be frank...

Final Fantasy has always made SE money. People spout off "DQIX SOLD 1 BAJILLION COPIES" and all that, but...

Let's take the mobile releases of DQV and FF5 respectively.

FF5 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFV_GP- has about... I'd say 250k sales since it's release last year. Maybe more closer to 500k. Google isn't too accurate, it's why it uses a broad spectrum.

DQV? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.dq5&hl=en- It's had about 2,500 sales on GP.

What would a businessman release? FF over DQ, just by numbers.

We're lucky as hell we're seeing these mobile ports. DQ hasn't changed in the ways FF has. Do we have a Sphere Grid or License Board, or Augments? Do we have Limit Breaks or Chocobo Racing?

No. DQ does not have the side-stuff that FF has in droves.

DQ is a purist JRPG that focuses on the game itself. It'll have a Casino every couple games, or it'll add on sidestuff as re-releases come along (( The Knick-Knacks, Pachisi/T&T, that dream thing in 6 that confused me, and 9's expansive Inn stuff. )). But at the core, it's still one of the purist JRPGs.

And that hurts it in today's game marketplace.

You guys see the IMMENSE hype for DQ Heroes on Youtube and stuff, right? People have been wanting to see DQ go off in a different direction in a long time (( I am NOT alone in this. )) and... we're going to see it soon.

DQ Heroes will revive interest in the series for US. As in the US. And us. We -need- a new game. Not a remake, a rehash, or a report. We don't need to be prowling copyright sites and praying that every filing by SE is possibly DQ-related. We don't need to be scouring Siliconera looking for tidbits on anything in hopes of new DQ.

We have it coming. DQ is changing as DQXI and DQ Heroes comes out. And I hope it's a good change.

Not a "LIGHTING RETURNS" kind of change, but something to appeal both to the purist, the nostalgia freak, the... dare I say it, the casual gamer too.

Man I really hope they'll bring over X and VII still. Hopefully Square Enix gets the message when it comes to this survey and especially with the excitement for Heroes. I wonder how many Dragon Quest fans have gone through the survey asking for VII and X already? The only thing I think anyone can do at this point other than keep hounding Square Enix is to wait and see how the future of Dragon Quest outside of Japan goes.

C'mon Square Enix! Myself and plenty others out there wanna play VII and X! And you can definitely count me out if you bring over XI before X.

Well, their statement of how we can look forward to a bright future for the series keeps me hopeful.

I am curious as to what the answers in the survey have been, though.

I doubt more than 50-100k did the survey. I'm hoping more than 10% know what Dragon Quest is.

You have a good point.  I love DQ for what it is, in that its stayed familiar and pretty much its same old perfect self for all these years, but maybe it needs to do something to gain mass appeal.  Over in other forums I frequent, there is TONS of hype for Heroes from people who aren't familiar with the series at all.  If they can make DQXI the must have RPG of the generation, it'll mean a return for the series in the west.

Really, DQ Heroes is an EXTREMELY GOOD BUSINESS MOVE.

Hyrule Warriors is pretty successful, and Heroes is going to be the PS4's answer.

But Hyrule Warriors sold well for the Zelda brand alone, do you really think that Dragon Quest has that power in the west?

It doesn't have to have that power. People that buy it will grab it because Gamestop and the like will tell them it's like Hyrule Warriors.

It is a fresh direction. It will work.

If people want to play a game like Hyrule Warriors they'll buy Dynasty Warriors...or One Piece Musou or all the other Musou games that are available on the PS4, this isn't the first Warriors game on the PS4, there are Dynasty Warriors games already out for the PS4 that play just like Hyrule Warriors and will no doubt be a lot cheaper than Dragon Quest Heroes.

Yes. This.

I understand there are other games like it too, but this will be the newest. People like new. Gamestop employees will be pumping this game for Hyrule fans, not the other ones sitting on the shelves that cost less.

I think DWM did a poor job a decade ago riding the Pokemon craze. They should've aggressively advertised as a ramped-up Pokemon game. Just like Heroes should ride the coat tails of Hyrule.

I'm all for stooping to whatever advertising or word of mouth way that it takes. Once DQ becomes more famous in the US, they won't have to, but to keep there series here, they need to!

Yes because PS4 has no games :P

But I agree with your above post Mattcraft. I think however since the 3DS is one of the best selling pieces 8th gen hardware (60million units) that passing up on localization would be silly. I think if they marketed it right (The RPG series that started it all etc etc) it could do well. But I mean besides making a website that DQ fans had to specifically look for they didn't do much to promote the DS game releases or the android releases. Like I'm certain a gamefaqs or youtube ad wouldn't cost too much for them and they could tap into a gamer audience that might not necessarily be aware of DQ.

Honestly I think DQ Heroes looks like the best musou-based game of all of the spinoffs (Gundam, Zelda). And I don't just say that due to being a DQ fan. It legit looks like a great action-RPG.

What with the big AAA shooter game market in a bit of a lull, I hope DQ Heroes can really make an impression.

You're actually right.  I'm sort of in the heart of the PS4 community, and boy do people love exclusives.  There's such a dryspell of good games, that people are interested in anything new and unique.  Heck Persona 5 is picking up tons of steam from non fans.  I think it's association to the PlayStation brand will help it sell the way Hyrule Warriors sold because it was a Wii U exclusive.

Nah Hyrule Warriors sold because it was Zelda. Zelda = sales.

The survey lets you enter a contest with a prize for 100 U$D on the square enix store, I'm not sure if OP's link has the promotion, but the prize sounds amazing. I chose Dragon Quest as my favorite series and DQ XI as the game I wish they made in the future.

I hope we manage to flood their poll with enough DQ fans  :wd_coolslime::P
