Nice!

Would you mind if I used your version of "World of the Strong" in DQVII-2? I like it especially.

I did a "night" version of DQVII's "Heavenly Village", using an arranged MIDI I found online.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B16I1pI-pI9DYl9hR3ZWaUFjdFU/view?usp=sharing

(This one won't play in chrome's default music player, the bitrate is too high. If you can't play it in your browser/plugin, try downloading it and playing it in your favorite media player. Or, you could wait until I upload it to youtube.)

Here's an 8-bit version of DQIX's observatory theme (it's kindof a crude rendering, but eh) that I did for MarthSK's Dragon Quest: Timeless Lands:

Here's a couple versions of a track I did for Orias Obderhode's Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost. It's the theme played in the Castle of Gales. The music is a remix of Uranus' theme from Megaman something-or-other.

(I think Orias chose the second version for his game, although I like the sound of the first better.)

Cool stuff, Erdrick! What DAW do you use?

Also, of course you can use my arrangement. Next to 9's, it has to be my favorite boss theme in the series as well as my favorite to arrange. I've already done four versions of it.

I liked your Heavenly Village theme the best. And might I suggest using Famitracker for the DQ9 theme? You can really produce some interesting things with that program!

Please excuse my ignorance, but what does DAW stand for?

Most of my work is done in FL Studio, but really all I do is play MIDIs back with different soundsets. Sometimes I'll do some re-arranging before rendering a WAV. Sometimes I'll do some simple effects in Audacity. Or I'll use it to cut together separate renderings of the same track if I'm using a plugin with a time limit (I only have the demo of FL).

I really don't have any musical ability. Hell, the heavenly village track was literally just recorded in Audacity from Windows Media Player through Stereo Mix (I've got a virtual MIDI card with a nice symphonic soundfont installed), then slowed down by 15%.

I might redo the Observatory theme in Famitracker, at the time I didn't know how to get MIDIs to run through it, but now that I've got BASSMidi and MIDIYoke, I think I can pass the MIDI straight through the program as if it were coming from a physical MIDI input device.

A DAW is a Digital Audio Workstation. Programs like FL Studio, Logic Pro, and Ableton Live are DAWs, just to name a few. If you're still interested in arranging/remixing you should totally continue to do it though. It can be really challenging and fun sometimes, and the the DQ fan community definitely needs more people in the music side of things.

Also it would be best to try and recreate the Observatory theme in Famitracker. It's challenging but more rewarding in the end. :tounge2:

Anyways here's more stuff from me:

Those are great!

Here's an 8-bit version of Place of Stopped Time from Dragon Quest VII:

I put a lot more work into this one, the observatory one was a rush job. This one though, actually not only fits in with the true constraints of the NES, but also fits within the constraints imposed in the first four Dragon Quest games: Only one square and the triangle wave. (The other square, DPCM, and noise channels were used for sound effects. Ever notice how in a lot of NES games, the music will cut out when a sound effect is played? It's because the programmers allowed the composers to use sound channels that were also used by SFX, which caused the SFX to override parts of the music.)

And a remastered version of the title theme from the US release of Dragon Warrior III for the NES:

And Fight Against Muriel from Dragon Quest Monsters:

The 8-bit theme reminds me of the dungeon/cave them from DW1. :)

If you're gonna do more 8-bit stuff there's this tool for Famitracker that allows you to look at the NSF data for GB games so a person can closely replicate the music in those games.

For FL Studio I suggest looking into VSTs like Ni-Pro or Edriol Orchestral if you're continuing arranging. They can produce some pretty interesting stuff when you get the hang of them.

Also the second video's private.

Last night I made a version of Prologue that - if I hadn't known it was created on a computer - I might think it was a live performance. It's amazing what a bit of reverb can do. I'll upload it later, but I just got up about half an hour ago and spent most of that time frantically looking for my new headset that I wore to bed while listening to Prologue - somehow it ended up between my mattress and the wooden endpiece at the foot of my bed. Now I KNOW that I move around a lot in my sleep, lol.

Hey, SlackerGuy, I used GXCSS and tried seeing what your MIDIs sounded like with the program's 8-bit. It sounded pretty good, so I posted it to my YouTube:

Credited you in the description. I hope you don't mind! :)

I love this stuff! Awesome work all around!

May I make a special request of the community?

I would love to hear War Cry ( standard Battle theme of Dragon Quest 8 ) in 8-bit NES sound via Famitracker.

I can try that, but don't hold your breath. I've got a lot on my plate right now, so it might take (more than) a little while. It might be better if someone else attempted this for you.
