My favorite hero would have to be either either DQ2's or 7's, and for party members it would have to be Yangus.

My favorite here is from Dragon Quest VIII

Favorite party member is Angelo, but my favorite character in the game is actually Ishmari the Moon Elf who is the dream master.

That is hard to say.

I'm going to go with a tie between Arus and the Celestrian.  I mean c'mon, how many times do you get to play a bloody angel that falls to earth and becomes mortal?  Plus Arus has a really intriguing story, and both heroes draw many parallels, at least in terms of Divine guidance and Inspiration that lead to their respective quests and being placed at the helm of saving the world.

My favourite party member...

Gabo.  Yangus is a close second, but Gabo just takes the cake.  I mean who wouldn't want a wolf turned boy as a companion?  You actually get to corrupt him!  Yangus is already been there, done that.  Hey...don't look at me like that!  I was only joking...  Ahem, anyhow, Gabo certainly brings a refreshing sense of pure innocence and wonderment to the party that no other character does.

Though I'd say Carver certainly deserves a shout-out as well, for his antics and incessant need to consume food and be his own Kung Fu: The Legend Continues Again!  Carver Fu: A Woodcarver's Journey, a wandering woodsmith with Kung-Fu abilities (ok, he can deliver a Knuckle Sandwich, and that's about it), travels the world in search of evil, and random dwarves lacking in carpentry skills!

Favorite Hero: Hard... The one from DQ IX and then the one from DQ III.

Favorite Party Member: Reeeally Hard, Kiefer would be it, but he leaves so early in the game.

Starkers is also really amazing, but he joins sooo late.

Aquila is cool too, but also joins extremely late, and it is just better using a different character in your team.

I really like Saber, but I think the characters from DQ VI kinda more epic: Terry, Milly, Amos, Lizzie...

Ok I am gonna give this prize to Amos... He can megamorph to a Dragon and is an epic warrior!

Favorite hero: DQ V's hero, as he arguably has the best character development out of every other hero. You could debate that, but a lot of the other heroes' development come simply with having to become the legendary hero they were meant to be. DQ V's hero isn't some legendary hero, merely a man who must see through his diversity and heartbreak all while growing from a boy into a man.

Favorite party member: Milly. She doesn't noticeably stand out among most of the beloved party members but I really like her personality. She was very friendly and charming when I expected her to be a very dry and bland character. Her party chat was the more varied of all the party members. She could say something funny or serious while the others stuck with their archetypes. Also, I really like the name "Milly" for whatever reason.

Out of the DQ6 characters, Milayou was always my favorite, even before the DS version was released and we got to see party chat.

My favorite hero... Aluse, of course! Like V's hero (for which there seems to be a debate over his official name. I think it's Abel...?) Aluse's character development is much less generic than most. VII is the first game in the series to have party members often talk directly to the hero, and also the first to have so many characters that are family or close friends with the hero as well. Through typical dialogue as well as Party Chat (which I should point out also made it's first appearance here) you can get a good idea of the hero's personality, but still with the ability to imprint your own personality on the character (as Horii intended - or so I've been told). Also, unlike other heroes (with the exception of V), you actually get to see Aluse mature. Except, instead of throughout his whole life, like in DQV, this focuses more on the journey that brings a boy to manhood.

Favorite party member... That's a hard one... I'll go with Melvin. I could make a strong case for any of VII's party members, but Melvin wins just because he's a badass. He's oooooollllldddd but still kickin'. He's a soldier of God, but doesn't rub it in your face. His character (besides in his awakening scene, which is kind of a given) isn't represented as some kind of holy figure, above the average joe, but he's still very much... Not godly, but has that kind of air around him. He doesn't have to act like a badass - he doesn't - he just kind of *is*.

Hero: VII.  The guy takes a lot of verbal abuse and is treated like a child by everyone.  Yet he still manages to rise up, save the world and never says a word about it.

Party Member:  Tie between Barbara/Ashlynn and Jessica.  <3 Red hair and whips.

Although I've already posted, I'd like to mention that my favorite "hero" from a spin-off DQ game is Tara from Dragon Warrior Monsters 2. That was the version I first played back in the day and I had a blast with it, plus I thought it was funny that a little girl was going off on a dangerous adventure to save her new home.  Gotta give credit where credit is due to the little monster master in green.

Hero - DQV

Party member - Tough one. I'd have to go with the team in DQVII (Kiefer, Maribel, and Gabo). Those three have the most personality and it shows in the party chat (esp in Verdham).

Hero: Descendant of Erdrick from DW-1. Literally carries the princess back to safety from halfway across the world. Saved the world too, solo...

Party: Torneko. Joins the party with a crap ton of goods, takes hits for the low-on-life hero, and rigs the casino monster battles by blocking a breath attack?!?! (He also introduced me to the dungeon type games)

I was going to say the same one for the same reason.

As for party member. The mouse from VIII. Think about it.

Hero: Reck (DQ6 Hero) Who needs legendary weapons when YOU'RE the one making the weapons legendary?

Party Member: Torneko. He's almost as iconic to Dragon Quest as Cid is to Final Fantasy.

Hero: I don't know. None of the heroes really left a big impression on me.
Party Member: Taloon! His chapter is what made me fall in love with the series. I love the business with him getting a packed lunch every morning.

The Hero from II and VIII are my favorites. Loto from III is also pretty close.

For party members, I would say Pisaro from IV and your children that fight along side of you in V.
