Most Similar Game to DQ IX

I really loved DQ IX, one of my best game of all times, my favourite Dragon Quest and my favourite DS game.

I loved the customization, I prefer by much a game which you decide your own characters than one with stories, generally because I never get intrigued by their story and I am kind forced to play with some characters.

My second DQ is V mainly because you can also Capture monsters and build your own team. THIS is magical.

I liked DQ IX it is not so straight foward, the story is simple, but amazing, with the Greygnarl x Barbarus fight, the Celestial Observatory.

Also I like Turn-Based, but not ATB, regular Turn-Based is MUCH better, much more strategic, in my opinion.

Also, post game is something amazing, keep playing the game after you finished and feel

I played a lot of other games Chrono Trigger, All DQs but 10, FF III, FF IV, FF V, FF VI, FF VII (really enjoyed, so many 'quests' and extra contests), Tales of the Abyss and several other tales, Bravely Default...

Some of them I loved, but none of them compared to DQ IX.

Also several SRPGs, FF tactics (war of the lion), Fire Emblem: Awakening, and others... But I am looking for a regular rpg.

Please could you suggest a customizable, almost infinite with post game, turn-based. More similar to DQ IX the best.

DQIX fits that to the T.

Final Fantasy 4 Warriors of Light has some customization, though.

He's asking for a game similar to DQ IX.

And from what I understand, the upcoming Fantasy Life for the 3DS is pretty similar. It also happens to be by the same developer as DQ IX.

There really isn't one similar to DQIX at present. :|

I'd recommend the Etrian Odyssey series. It's first person dungeon crawling (which is obviously different from DQIX) with plenty of customization and characters you create yourself.  You choose from numerous job classes (they differ between games) to form your party and explore a large dungeon/dungeons. Each game has plenty of content both in the main and post game.

If you do want to try this series out, start with either Etrian Odyssey IV or Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (a remake of the first game that features the original game and a new story mode) for the 3DS.

Blue Dragon: Awakening(?) was kinda similar to DQIX.  Hard to find, though.

There aren't any, unless you look for a bunch of RPG maker games.

Bravely Default has a DQIX/Final Fantasy feel to it.  Many of my DQIX Tag Mode friends were into that when it came out a few months ago.  Personally, I couldn't get into it, though.

<edit>Oops.  I see you already mentioned that one.</edit>

Final Fantasy XII has some of the same feel as DQ9. It has a big open world, some people have said it reminds them of playing an offline MMORPG. The characters are customizable to a point: you can build the characters any way you want, as far as what type of weapons/armor they can equip, and what abilities they can use.

I also really like Radiata Stories. It is an action RPG, but there is a lot of customization. Although you can only control the main character, you can choose how he fights and how he looks and a big draw of the game is the amount of recruitable characters that you can put in your party (over 100).

There's also Persona Q out now for the 3DS which I'm sure you've heard of/played by now if you like both SMT and Etrian Odyssey :P

I do agree, there should be more in the way of JRPG/console-style RPGs with customizable characters. There is also Class of Heroes for the PSP, which is similar to Etrian Odyssey but more roguelike in that you choose your party at the beginning, etc. I haven't played it much but many people have recommended it if you like Etrian Odyssey.

I double and triple recommend the Etrian Odyssey series. Turn based, TONS of customizable stuff (and ways to redo stuff if it doesn't work out... at a cost).

Since someone necroed the thread... Fantasy Life is like DQIX, but with a more cohesive storyline.

Final Fantasy Advance has a complex job tree if you are wanting a game with that kind of thing. You could also check into Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirit and Breath of Fire 3, really any Breath of Fire they are all good.

Persona Q is a very good game. I am playing it and can recommend it.
