DQM3D questions

Recommended Posts

I got my imported 3DS bundled with Terry's Wonderland 3D a few days ago and have been playing it almost non-stop, but I've got a few questions:

-Scouting is fairly difficult with the monsters I currently have (lv20 Red Dragon, lv25 Mad Cat(?), lv22 Healslime / Red Dragon & lv18 Pteranod(?)) as many monsters - especially the ocassional Size-2 monster - rarely get more than 10% on my odds after everyone takes their turn in showing off. I saw a Skullgon/Skelegon in the first interior-ruins map once and only once, but never got more than 8% odds on it.

I don't know which skillset or monster would have the Psyche Up skill, and I only just figured out (By experimentation) this one item that adds +10% to your odds, and if it fails without angering the monsters, it accumulates too!

So my question here is what sort of items/skills would help most with scouting?

-Phoenix Staff.  In Joker 1/2 you could get this staff to retain the form of a bred monster since same-family breeding doesn't work the same way anymore. Is this equip still in Terry3D, and if so where can I get it?  I'm assuming it's going to be fairly late in the game, which is unfrotunate since I really don't want to part with my Red Dragon, Pteranod, or Wing Snake just yet ^^

-Arena/Monster Masters.   Do wandering Monster Masters still show up in the dungeons? And can the arena be re-battled after you clear the upper ranks?

-Captain Crow.  One of my most hated things in Joker 2 - if not THE most hated thing - was the absurd requirements on monsters like Aquarius and the Zenith Dragon/Master Dragon, often requiring multiple copies of Crow (Who IIRC is a "one-per-savefile" monster).

Is that the case here in Terry3D as well?  I don't mind the high-end monsters being hard to get, but the Captain Crow requirements from the Joker games really were annoying.  I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here though, since I'm not too far into the game.

A'right. So those are my questions for now (I am curious about the breeding of certain monsters, but don't want to spoil anything on my first play-through of the game :)  I am curious about that Medusa Eye you fight in the semi-final D Class though)

I've been teaching myself Japanese for a while, and though I haven't gotten around to grammar or kanji yet,  it's been great fun spotting words and stuff I can recognize while playing (Still, my understanding of the language is minimal at best, and I've spent at least half of the game looking stuff up and writing stuff down ^^)

While I am curious about what the skills and skillsets do, I think I can figure that out on my own (As well as the items, but those would help a lot!)

I don't have any plans to go onto Wi-Fi though, and actually where I live that's just not an option for me at all. So anything exclusive to or requiring a trip onto Wi-Fi for any reason is useless to me :)

*EDIT*  One last thing... How does the Day/Night cycle function in "Interior" dungeons like the Desert Ruins where you fight the "Fang Slime"? I must have ran through those a dozen times and only saw it go to "night" once  - it got all dark and blue, and dust or something started floating about.  Saw some size-2 monsters walking around, but have yet to see it happen again.  Out in the Field and Forest levels?  Day changes to Night very quickly ???

*Edit 2*  Sorry one more... In several gates I've found the music changes to Joker 2's "Giant Monster on the Loose" music and there'll be a size 3 wandering around. First time was in a cave and was a Medusa Eye(?), second time was the black Wiggly/Wormonger.  Can I scout these or do I have to wait until I have monsters with 600+ attack?

hey :) while im no expert terrys wonderland i have completed the game, and gotten to around 300 ranking on wifi matches, which is pretty cool. but like you my japanese is not very good lol but to answer some of your questions

first off, items for scouting, their are tons of meat items, that you can use on monsters that increase the percentage anywhere from 2% all the way up to like 20%. maybe even higher if its a low ranked monster and you use a high meat item. but thats kinda pointless. anyway, you probabbly already know about meat sorry, but you can use multiple meat items on the same monster and it can increase your chances ALOT. i forget where to buy them early on in game, if their even is a place. but you can find them around the maps. or if you get mid game you can buy them at the bazzar from the one old dude.

also about your question about what skills help with scouting, their are actually certain skills made just for scouting, i think they are called like "scout +" and whatnot. they increase your chances i believe. also like you mentioned psyching up and multiple hits on a single monster would help.

i can tell you for a fact that yes the pheonix staff does return. i think i noticed mine about mid game. though you might get it sooner. since like i said im very bad at japanese i might of not even known i had it. but whenever you speak to the old man to synthesis monsters it should apear in the synth menu if you click i think "Y"? cant remember. if you have it though it should appear. but you do get it.

yes wandering monster masters appear even more frequently i have found than joker 2. which is nice. also you can rebattle them even if you beat them im pretty sure. or at least new trainers will spawn. pretty sure the arena can be re played.

also about the captain crow thing. you mentioned not caring about online. well in this game they give out presents so getting A-S class monsters is a good bit easier, since they give them out once a day as a present online, you dont have to do a tournemant it should be under the 1v1 then hit the "present" button and you go into a battle with a high class monster, pretty nice. i tryed to do i once a day just to get more monsters. they may even have ss monsters i forget.

heres a link that i used that hopefully can help you too :)

http://translate.google.com/translate?act=url&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=ja&tl=en&twu=1&u=http://game-cap.com/terry3ds/data/monst226.html

the left side collumn has alot of options for what monsters you want to look up. that site is mainly for monsters and their skillsets and whatnot. but it helped me TONS with sythesis and what traits/skillsets each monster has. :)

also their is a column called "adventure support" if you click that on that website it will pop up the skills to help you in the main game. it also shows the 3 scouting skills. click on each one to see which monsters have the skill :)

hope i helped to answer some of your questions :)

Well part of the not wanting to go online is because I've heard so many mentions about the sort of teams you go against, and the 'one right team' being a full set of metal creatures and gold slimes, or fully maxed out demon lords like Nokturnis (I prefer the Zenith dragon really. ;P )  so I've always felt "What's the point?" since I'm not a competitive person.

The other part is it's just literally not possible. It took us days to get my DS hooked up wireless to our internet at home and in the process it disallowed my laptop to ever connect by wireless, and we;ve had to use a LAN line for it ever since. Fixing that only prevented the DS from ever connecting. It was always one or the other.

I'm most often at work, which while I can connect to with my laptop, I can't go changing any security or router settings to allow my DS / 3DS to connect since it's a business connection I can't go messing around with.

If there is a WiFi option where you just go 1v1 against an AI controlled monster (You beat it to obtain it?) that I might look into, but I really don't want to go challenging a lot of other players.

I've found a few meats that would give +10% to a scouting, but it seemed to cap at 30%? I ended up using four on a Wing Snake I found in the second level of the basement (Having already bred the one I had, I wanted to get another) but it only went up to 30%. I failed to scout it too >_>   Third try and it angered the creature *sigh*

I've seen a few Metaly (Metal Slimes) in the Ruins worlds on the first basement floor of the castle... Are they still next to impossible to scout without an X/SS rank attack-specialized monster like they seemed to be in the Joker games, or can they be obtained via breeding like in DWM2? (Was a bit on the tedious side, but it was better than wasting money and time just to have them flee)

I ran into a wandering master literally an hour after I posted this thread actually :ga_rolleyes:

His team was a SpotKing, a King Slime, a King Cureslime, and a Babble King  >_<

Barely won that, and couldn't tell what I got as a reward!

Hmm wandering masters in Joker 2?  Can't say I've ever saw one, unless you're referring to the Professional version?

The uh...  Slime icon in the menu with the little lightning bolts next to it...  What is that? It asks me Yes/No every time I press it and when I finally did use it out of curiousity and it saved my game, it took me to a menu with a lot of stuff I didn't understand. I just backed out of it because I didn't know what it was for :)

Mm so about the Day/Night cycle in the interior dungeons... No thoughts?

Same with the Size-3 monsters I've seen when the "Giant Monster music" starts playing. Can those be scouted or do they just serve as a mid-boss? Right now my highest attack score goes to my Red Dragon (Around 230) with the others being 200 or less.

Thanks for all the help by the way :)

yes the wifi option to get the A and S rank monsters you just either beat it, or survive 10 rounds. and it will give you the option to recruit it. just hit yes.

not sure if you can make metal slimes i forget, but you can scout them i know since i used to do it. i would say high attack is still needed probabbly around 600-800 at least? not sure. my attack monsters are all above 1000. with my highest one being 1500 over i believe it was a metal scorption SS ranked. so scouting really isnt too much of a problem normally.

joker 2 had them at the end of the game or at least the old man was one. i remember i could of sworn their were more though. after putting 360 hours into joker 2 i would hope im remembering correctly lol. i remember always being in the top 50 at least on wifi. also you can scout the enemy teams monsters but normally they are much stronger than the monsters in the area so be warned, you probably already found that out though since you said you barley won. they can be tricky at times.

the slime lighting bolt icon i think is the wireless access? i cant remember but i think if im remembering correctly its for battling other people in the same room or on the street or w/e. again not too sure myself. but it shouldnt really matter as far as playing the game.

day and night cycle im not sure what your asking. but you get a skill at the end of the game to auto switch between day and night. and its not that fast normally. certain monsters come at day and some at night.

also yes you can scout giant 3 slot monsters but you would need lots of attack, if your only at like 200-230 like you said you would need at least a few hundred more to even get anything at all im thinking. if you used meat and got to maybe 500 attack and its a lower ranked monster then its possible i guess. but even the D ranks are redicoulsly hard to capture so i dont think rank means that much. since some S rank 3 slot monsters seem to be just as hard to scout. again my monsters are all 1000+ and i use the best meats, i normally get around 15%-40% if i remember correctly on giant monsters with my team of 1000+ attack each. no psych, no scout+. with anywhere from 1-3 pieces of meat used. normally without meat i can get about 10-18% on them. depending on if all my attacks hit. no pysch, no scout+. if you want to try it just for the heck of it you can, but since you cant save when you are in a place with a 3 slot monster you might want to think about if you want to or not.

glad i could be of some help :) i love the monster series :)

Ah that's good to know. It's fascinating how they're making the games much more accessible in some areas (Like easier post-game leveling in Joker 2, and "free" rare monsters just for participating like this, etc)

Hmm... I was poking around on that guide you linked to... It's a bit hard to tell what some things are ("Breath of Germany"? Seriously? XD  That's supposed to be Poison Breath, google translate!)  especially when the translation is taken literally and there's no real translation available. I can only assume "Andrea Le" is supposed to be Andreal - that bipedal purple dragon I loved so much in DWM2.  That being said,  I was impressed to see that the Coatl made such a high jump in rarity and power in this remake - Being only a 2.5 Star rarity like Andreal and the Green Dragon back in DWM2 days - and was no longer an easy monster to make. I looked up it's breeding requirements (Forgive me if I always refer to it as such - I don't like the concept of synthesizing. It's so... Artificial, and makes the monster's lives seem meaningless D: ) and as far as I can tell the first monster required can't be obtained by conventional means. It can only be gotten by an egg (Wi-fi contests only from what I gather) or by stealing it via a wandering Master in late game traveling. In DWM the easiest way was to just breed two Wing Snakes - which look awesome in Terry3D - but it seems the Coatl is one of those very-hard-to-get monsters now?  It looks like it can also be gotten from wandering masters, but alas.

Pinpointing what monster is what in that guide is a bit tricky with all the wacky names Google Translate is returning... Pity there's no pictures accompanying it for easier identification.

Mmm well when I was walking through the gate that led to the Fang Slime in the casino... On floor one of the castle basement?  I was walking through the ruin interior and suddenly it got much darker and it looked like particles of glowing dust were floating around - the music changed too. The rooms were tinted blue and whatnot.  While in one of the larger rooms, many of the monsters were replaced and a large size-2 dragon (Chamelegon?) was wandering around that wasn't there before.  I just assumed that was that gate's version of Night time... But later I was in the Basement 2 dungeon, and it turned to night while I was outside, but once back inside the dungeon was still well-lit.  I don't know what I saw then.  =/

Aaah then I'll just ignore them for now :)

I got killed fighting the Medusa Eye, and was barely able to escape the battle with the Wormonger (Surprised you could at all!).

I beat a few Metaly's but never tried to scout them. With such a low attack power on my monsters I thought "Why bother" ^^

Though I did make an attempt on a Liquid metal slime later.  The meat added 6% and both my monsters only added about 1% each, with the third not adding any.  It angered the monsters and then the LMS fled. Go figure :B

I have to say I really don't like the concept of the Mettables/LMS, King Metal Slimes, and such in the Monsters series. The odds of you beating one is pitiful at best, and Scouting one?  Psh yeah right. Not unless they're in a Master's party and can't flee, and even then... Reminds me far too much of the casinos in the main DQ series and Pokemon. A gamble just trying to capture or kill one  =/

I mean, by the time you CAN actually reliably defeat them, why would you even need to? Chances are you'd already have maxed out that monster so the exp given by the Metaly and Metabble are useless. (Unless you're also raising a newborn, but *shrugs*)

*edit*  As a final question... I just beat the first dungeon of the castle's second basement floor and some weird looking size-2 Demon-Family monster joined me. I high tailed it straight to the Starry Shrine and I noticed two appealing monsters I could make:

Swordgon/Nardragon (Rank C now? Nice improvement!)

-I always loved the Swordgon in DWM2, and beat the game with a Nardragon in my party in Joker. Their appearance alone is highly appealing to me~

-He's a size two in this?! Big dragon is bigger than he was in Joker ^^

The other monster I am debating getting is a Size three monster - which would be my first yet. However, it would be dropping a rank (Down to D-Rank) and I'm not sure about its stats. It looks like it might be the Giant Slug monster.

I'm not sure how easy or difficult it is to breed a Swordgon or this slug-like monster, so I'm really divided over which I should make. If one is easier than the other to recreate I'd go for the harder one.

Looking at it, it seems the Swordgon would be easier since I can just get a Mad Dragon and an Evil Armor... But, then again I'm not sure if the "Armor Wander" that guide mentions is the same monster I'm thinking of...

Aagh, the breeding guides got so dang confusing after Caravan Heart. I don't really understand the ranking/deranking by taking a specific monster or family and putting it with another family to get specific monsters. Unless it's explained real neatly with pictures I can't make heads or tails of it =/

In the end though, I went with the Swordgon. Can't help it really - I've always been a sucker for the dragons (and plants) in the Monsters series ^^

It looks like his animation set is based off the Dracolord's animations instead of the Komodo's this time around. Interesting :)

I know this thread is old but I can confirm a few things if you haven't already figured it out.

1.) Monsters can be scouted with as little as 1% [i've done it multiple times]

2.) There are Rare and Huge monsters in almost every gate if not huge monsters there's at least 1 rare monster (octagoon, lucky bag, and metal slimes and metal bubble slimes etc...) depends on the gate as to what rare monster can be found.

3.) slime icon with lightning bolt is the (street pass menu)

you can battle people you have streetpassed as well as try to Scout their monsters.

4.) tip on scouting wandering masters monsters. save before battle g there monsters will not change if you reset. just continue to Scout 1 you want and if you mange to get at least 1-3% on the scout bar you can get them. if you fail reset to home menu reload save and try again.

5.)there are other staffs as well besides the Phoenix staff. there's a male and female sceptre that makes the baby born be the gender of the equipped staff.

6.)you can scout the giant monsters or any monster as long as you can raise the scout bar. treat giant monsters the same as wandering masters save before if you fail retry. for those giant monsters use smoked meat or marbled meat if you can find any meat is your best bet when your monsters can't raise the % bar them selves.

Hehe, yeah it's old ^^

1.)

*nods* I saved before the Gryphon Statue thing outside the Pyrmaid then just rapidly tried to tame it. I got as much as 9% max each time, and after 11 or so tries it finally accepted! I promptly used him to make my King Hydra I had wanted for so long <3

2.)

Metal and Liquid Metal slimes can be found easily enough in the Metal worlds, and they're not really 'rare' to me anymore since I've gone through a dozen or two each in the process of making my Diamond Slime :)

I am however, very very happy with my Great Leviathan~ Didn't tame him, since I enjoy seeing him splash about in the Water World, but bred one of my own via Coatol x Poseidon. Love that big serpent soooo much <3

3.)

I'm also quite aware of this feature :)

Used it quite a bit, though as far as rare scouted monsters go I've only gotten Kid Leonyx and the Lemon Slime.

4.)

I thought they disappeared if you saved and reloaded before them?

5.)

Was the same in Joker IIRC too. I've gotten the hang of the Rebirth breeding now too, though picking a trait I want to graft onto the newborn is a bit um... Tricky. A lot of consulting the (google-botched) translated pages to see what trait I'd want to remove and what trait I want to keep. I gave my Tyrant Worm the Metal Body trait just because xD

Andreal I ave AI 2 ~3 Action, and um... Well, just pretty straight forward stuff so far.

6.)

I don't think I'll be scouting the Giant Monsters at this point. I was able to get Great Leviathan pretty easily, and Orligon / Mammodeus don't seem like they'll be too much harder. A Golden Slime won't take much longer to make, then I just need to win a quick boss battle and I can make my own Orligon. Same deal with mammodeus – but scouting's always an alternative indeed!

One thing I want to know is if I can safely start a second adventure or if I'll need to switch SD Cards. I mean, if I can have a new profile and adventure on my current SD Card without losing all my progress, or if it's impossible. I don't have the 'New 3DS' so I can't actally access the hidden Nin folder on my card if I plug it into my computer, so that makes it impossible to just grab my save data, stash it on my computer, then start a new file and then replace it with the old data when I'm done.   :(

sadly The saves are stored inside the game cart themselves and there is only room for one save. I have started over 3 times and lost my previous save everytime. it's actually one of the messages when starting new game it will tell you doing so will result in current save lost if you end up saving. a work around would be to buy a 3ds save dongle and rip the save from the cart and start a new game and just keep a save backup on your pc. I just imported DQM2 3DS (it arrived yesterday) and it already has a save on it as well (plenty S rank monsters I might end up breeding those with my monsters on DQM if I can? but not having a Japanese 3DS I don't know if I can use that feat. I know I can't use wifi(so I can't update or do battles) but nothing is saved to the SD except for ext. data like the update files.(I think)

regarding #4. the wanderers do not disappear as I have done this multiple times when I found king Korol one fight and scouted him eventually. and the same for Baramos Zombie :)
