If it's {GABO} then yes. Names surrounded by {} are a subsituition for a character's name in game since it's possible to rename the characters.

The question isn't wether or not it's about Gabo, it's just that the Google/Bing translate lines are vague/make 0 sense. If it's the one I'm thinking of, Google says "{GABO} had"

If more people would like to help I've written tools to translate automatically. I know 0 Japanese and yet I've done tons based on my DQ7 knowledge

 

So that should give you hope is one man with no Japanese can pull off as much as I have so far

HAH! I've translated TONS of DQX menu AND dialogue text with 0 knowledge of japanese, and without a previously released english version to go off of.

 

Sorry, been working hard, felt the need to brag. But seriously, you're doing awesome! Keep it up! And if you want to get started learning japanese, I've been teaching myself Katakana with this neat game: http://learnjapanesepod.com/kana-invaders/

Katakana is mostly used for writing foreign (read:english) words and names. It's not used much for actual japanese words, though it seems to be the character set of choice for Dragon Quest spells (which are actually mostly gibberish in Japanese). When you are done with Katakana, go on to Hiragana, which is a character set written and read much the same way as Katakana, but used for Japanese words. (Kana Invaders also has a Hiragana mode.)

 

Progress on Scenario Titles: Beginning up through Deja is mostly complete now, just a few here and there missing. I've done about half of Dharma's, too.

Yah I've been out of the loop, mostly because I have only one localizer doing work and all my translators have ABANDONED ME waaaah. :P

 

So yeah was pretty hard getting anything done.

Hm mm I'm going to need to look at the actual ROM when I find it. While earlier in the thread there is some technical chat on the fpt0 format I usually have to actually see the binary to understand it. I'll need to look exactly how DQ7 3DS organizes the text vs how the PSX version does it. Right now there is too much variance in textbox size to align it properly.

 

I did do some work with DQ9 (turned the punny puns down from 11 to a 4.5) and it used a lot of different encoding methods and the MPT0 "format". Optimally it would be best to be able to add/subtract text boxes and change pointers so that all the text fits and looks nice and pretty.

 

Oh, and if we can get it to align properly I have a cross reference list from DQ7 PSX. It appears to be debug but it might help with "Dragon Quest VII 3DS: Scenario Titles Translations". Or maybe it's somewhere else.

Yeah, the only issue is DW7PSX has 3615 entries and DQ7PSX has 3625, so someone would have to find the extras and remove em.

Yeah, the only issue is DW7PSX has 3615 entries and PQ7PSX has 3625, so someone would have to find the extras and remove em.

Damarsman popped back in a little while ago, but then disappeared again. I don't know how to get ahold of him.
