I think he might be referring to Kirby.

There are tons of bosses in Dragon Quest X and I want to say that I think I may have fought Orochi before, but I can't truly be certain of that.  There are so many story or quest bosses that you fight once, and then probably won't see again unless you specifically set out to face them.

Given how many legacy bosses this game loves to thow at us, odds are high that Orochi is in there.

I've never played Dragon Quest 8, so I didn't know who Mazin was until I just now googled him.  One thing is, since this game is entirely in Japanese and I can't understand what they are saying, he could have marched up to me and said "Yo girl.  I'm Mazin.  Go tell Kanamee on the Dragon's Den that I am saying hi!" and I'd have no clue what he was saying.  If you can direct me to which of my videos you think you saw him in I can try and see if I can try and check on it.

Cranberry, I saw two of your videos and I have questions

1. If King Hydra is in the game, is Orochi or the Grand Dragon (please) in it also?

2. In one of your videos there was a golem that kind of looks like mazin without the glow, is that Mazin?

in the first royal labyrinth video, he is the Golem on your team, he seems pinkish red to me. Maybe it is just the lighting that makes him seem red.

Ah, Ashes was right, you are refering to Kirby.  Kirby is the name of my companion Golem.  It is a Golem that I caught and tamed.  Kirby is a regular Golem and has no connection to Mazin.

Kirby is featured very prominently in my Royal Labyrinth series of videos and is even starting to get a few fans.

"Yo girl.  I'm Mazin."

I laughed best monster pick up line.

(If this derails into a monster pickup line thread I'd be amused)

Your exp is reduced by amount of people in your party and level differentiation between you and the NPCs and you and the mob,

Now theirs a question.  So level difference between you and the mob yes?  Not by highest level NPC of the party?

I don't really want to get into any kind of crazy calculations so here's the basics for EXP gains:

Things that effect base EXP

1. The monsters. Base EXP is the sum of the EXP values you see in the monster book. As you'd expect.

2. Average Party level. If you're below it you get less EXP, if you're above it you get more EXP.

3. Number of party members (You get all of the EXP if solo even with AI in reserve [trust me, I've done solo spear grinding on lv45 monsters from 50-80 on Pally and Item Master], 4 members is 200%/4 EXP or half)

* Recruited monsters and Anlucea always receive 30% of the EXP that shows up in the monster book. Anlucea if you're in the royal labyrinth and your monster if they are with you regardless of if they are in reserve or not. Monsters in reserve don't count as a party member so they can earn their full EXP without cutting into the EXP you earn.

Things that give bonus EXP [partial list]

1. Level difference between the enemy and your highest level active party member. (Again, members in reserve have no effect on this. 0% if above/almost equal the enemy level or 10%-25% depending on how big the difference is)

2. Genkidama (+100%)

3. Angel Slime Hat (+200%, if you are wearing it you need to be below 49, if a party member/AI is wearing it they need to be below 49.)

4. Cooking EXP (Up to +30% depending on the item/quality)

* All of the above bonuses are additive. So genki + angel slime hat = 4x (+300%) not 6x.

There is no such thing as an EXP Penalty as of this version of DQX. Period.

Actually I like crazy calculations and extensive details. Lay it on me.

I was trying to do a relatively simple answer instead of listing the entire breakdown. There are other things that add exp to yourself, ann and your pet. However. That's a bit beyond the scope of a simple question and answer for someone still getting into the game.

Oh hey there is a post as I hit post go figure. I am doing this as I wait for someone before beginning a 3 hour drive.

Briefly, there are a few buffs that will provide more exp. The metal king card from Minea, the djinn buff in royal labyrinth and the badge from the guidebook released last month. The first and last offer single person buff while the 2nd is party wide.

I forgot there's a belt you can get from the newly added boss in labyrinth that adds to xp too.

I just wanted to verify - is there a way to change your character name or am I stuck with the misspelling of my name?

It's Square Enix, so if there is a way, it'll cost you about $20.  I'd just restart real quick.

Yeah... I am already 45 and finished v1.0 story. It's not happening for me to restart.

I couldn't find the way to input Katakana in the name entry and I ended up with the wrong name. I should restart now before it's too late right?

I can't create more than 1 character in the trial I think, so will I have to beat the offline mode all over again?

Pretty sure you can have more than one adventure login offline, and you can rename right before you register for online mode.

If the first part is true like I believe it to be you can skip offline and jump into online. Cranberry's offline guide has info on that.

Edit: I was trying to delete my character following a screenshot guide and I got a problem with the "guest mode", but this post helped me out. I had deleted my "player 1" in the launcher on accident, and after re-registering it, it all worked again.

Looks like it's some sort of parental control where there's a master account that can access character creation and "guests" can't?

Hello guys! I have a newbie question, mostly because my DQ knowledge is very very limited.

I started with a martial artist, and he can equip 3 kind of weapons (a fan, claws and a staff). Is there any significant difference in playstyle depending on the weapon you choose?

Sorry for the stupid question and thanks in advance!

Edit: Just finished the trial, and I fell in love with this game. I'm thinking of buying it, but then 2 more questions pop (sorry for bothering you this much when it's not even a day since I joined D: )

The all in one package: is it really all, the 1 and 2 version and whatever else, if any, content you need to buy?

What method do you guys reccomend me for getting the game? amazon?

Again, thank you very much for your time.

Again, thank you very much for your time.

For your first question: Yes. As you put points into the weapon skill, it gains different skills based on the weapon it is to fit its playstyle. You can reset skill trees later so if you feel like you don't like a weapon you've focused on, you can reset it for 10k gold and get your points back. Points placed in a weapon skill will apply to all classes that can use that weapon (so if three classes can use the weapon you can divide points over all three classes to max it out). Every class has a passive skill (the last one), that is exclusive to that class so it will get the majority of the points the class gains.

Second Question: For now, yes, but one of the threads around here suggests that they're working on Version 3, which won't be included in the All In One. Right now, All In One is what you need, but as they release more you won't instantly get it.

Third Question: I used Amazon. You can use PlayAsia or a company like that if you want a physical box, but Amazon is likely the best choice if you don't care. Note that the download you get from buying All In One/Version 2 is required to be downloaded, as the client you downloaded for the trial does not include all V2 content.

Now for some questions of my own: Can anyone explain what the following items are for/do?

Most of them are from Spell Codes, and I'm not really sure what they do, so any info would be great.

Hi again!

Thank you very much for the answers! but I'm actually going through hell to actually buy the game. When I try to do it, amazon only gives me trouble. Did you need to do something special?

You need a Japanese Address as your Shipping Address to buy the game. You won't actually be shipped anything, but the game is supposed to be limited to sales in Japan, so they prevent any purchases that do not have a Shipping Address in Japan. It shouldn't be too hard to find one, I don't even think it needs to be a real address as long as it appears to be one to the system.

To anyone who bought the All In One, if it's like me, you'll be getting this message today

f883bfebf5.jpg

If you click the top option, it'll close the game and redirect you to the Square Enix site where you add a subscription source of payment. But no, our free 20 days aren't over yet, don't worry about it.

It's misleading if you can't read it: it's actually saying that we only have a week left of free play and is recommending we get a payment going now. Just click the second option instead to continue on your way.

So I have a new question.

I had gotten a gate guard quest to kill サウルスロード in ã‚¬ãƒ¼ãƒˆãƒ©ãƒ³ãƒˆé ˜. When I got there, I noticed that people were getting up to I, J, and K counts for them...but I only ever get one in a spawn. Not that I could handle that many or anything like that, but I was wondering how they get so many monsters. Is there some skill you can learn to force extra monsters to appear or something like that?

Monster Tamer's 100 SP skill calls for backup. It's the go to class if you're doing gate quests.

I see...

Is it used by the AI if you have an AI partner that has it available?

Nope only real people can use it. Think of how crazy it'd be if AI called 2 more just as an enemy called more, or octopods that do megizaru dance.

Max that you can call are 12 altogether including the original. L is the highest you will get, but this diminishes if they successfully cast zing/zhao. In addition, you can only have 5 concurrent enemies called at any given time.

Bleh, the only reason that sucks is because it's a dedicated to Demon Master skill, so you can only use it to grind Demon Master (at least solo).

You got it. I usually go with Tenko to grind kabrias (green armored hippos) usually. After I got that skill I only use the class to do gate quests and occasionally grind with Tenko. Without genkis I made it to 75 in a month from 47 when I got the skill.
