What do you want for Dragon Quest XI?

Recommended Posts

I want it to be in high-definition with a darker story line and setting (like V - VII)

Obviously XI is probably a far off project, but it is still nice to see what everyone wants in a Dragon Quest XI.

I would think we will begin to hear the first details of XI late next year or early/mid 2014.

No mandatory online. A nice feature, but not mandatory. Amazing graphics, monster team mates, like in DQV, monster arena like in DQVIII, class system like DQVII, race feature like DQX, and maybe customizable characters like in DQIX. Also, an interesting storyline, like in DQVIII.

Ditto(No I'm not talking about the pokemon.).

I'm not really sure what I would like to see in future Dragon Quest(Main games). Maybe a story where your decisions during game play lead to one of multiple out comes or a story where the monsters for a change are the good guys and the humans the bad guys.

Basically I want the follow up to DQVIII that everyone was hoping for. DQVIII in HD, classic DQ battle system, random encounters, concentrate on story (preferably a little darker like 5). I also wouldn't mind them starting another trilogy. Either having a connecting storyline to X or starting a new storyline for the future sequels. But the big one is the classic battle system again.

Why does everyone care so much about HD?

It'd be great with either VI or VIII's graphic-set, with a darker, more mature storyline. I'd like to see Alchemy take a step back and Monster Recruiting step up. The Class System is over-rated, but something to round out your characters with more of DQVIII + DQIII's class system.

And no online. None whatsoever. No DQVC, no on-disk or on-cartridge DLC that would be unlocked, just... a full game. DLC would be nice, but let it be actual DLC. And free unless it extends the game.

Where monsters are the good guys? That would be cool. Start as Slime, then get other classic monsters to join, such Hammerhood, Heal Slime, Golem, Chimera, Teeny Sanguini, Dracky, Hacksaurus ect.

I like the idea of it being on the 3DS and it being apart of another trilogy. I don't want to speculate too much about the storyline or characters because I know whatever it turns out to be will be amazing :) A story following an antagonist would be interesting. And definitely darker.

Oh! And an addendum to my post....

Many more new monsters and less repeated monsters!

A full single player experience. Not needing to "tag" a certain amount of people in order to unlock things, even if it is just optional stuff.

A more mature storyline.

Not a lot of puns. It can have puns here and there, but I can't see a villan/hero/problem being taken seriously if every other word is a pun.

A likable villian. What i mean by that, is you can see why he does what he does. He isn't going insane, he isn't possessed by some demon or anything, it also isn't something he just woke up and decided. I want it so the players, and maybe even the heros could think, "Huh, maybe he's right. He's going about it the wrong way, but he has a point."

No Puns.

I'd love to see the Elizabethian dialect return from DW1. (if its done well)

I want some actual characters in the next game. By that I mean actual characters with dialouge and personality.

Monster system similar to DWM1+2. Only improved.

I dont want to see Likable villains. They tend to be boring to me. I want to see a villain that is gleefully evil...but also someone that makes a point. Their actions made you despise them and sometimes even fear them a little. Zoma and Deathtamoor were awesome villains cause they were clearly evil and had insane amounts of power to back their claims. They were just awesome.

Bring Slime Racing back. But this time let us control them! Make it more based on skill and reflexes than luck. Also if the abilities of the slime affected its performance you might be more willing to train one up. It would be awesome! :D

I might think up more ideas later.

1. Single player.

2. Single player.

3. Single player.

......

10. Good mature storyline - like DQVII type of atmosphere.

Its story being similar to DQ VII's would be great. One of the best DQs out there, if not best.

And no need for HD. Even if it is not HD, it would still rock.

And let it be a single player game.

I think it's a given that the game will not be an MMO like X, it will most likely be on the 3DS or Wii U, so we can expect something akin to DQVIII in terms of the graphical style. As far as tone etc, I never understand the call for a darker tone in a series like Dragon Quest. The stories are written like fairy tales and so there's obviously going to be a balanced tone with a emphasis on lighter themes and some grimmer elements to punctuate the sense of adventure, friendship etc.

1 - 3DS

2 - Get rid of the tension system

3 - Class system a la DQIX

4 - No alchemy system

5 - Localization closer to DQVIII. No forced accents, definitely no forced puns or cultural references. If there is dialectal differences in the Japanese version, they can emulate that for the US version, if there is a pun used in a line, same thing. But no adding for the sake of adding.

6 - More new music

7 - Less re-used monsters. They're starting to get ridiculous with re-using old monsters. Toriyama barely designs anything new these days.

No online. Pretty much make it like DQ8, good story, some monster controlling element, good graphics, original battle system, I liked the voice acting so maybe add that again. Basically make it less like DQ9/DQ10 and more like DQ8.

1. make it longer than dq7, with dq8 graphics level or better

2. make new kinds of "tension" levels beyond 100 make them look unique from each other, let the monsters have new kinds of "tension" as well.

3. let us "speak" with the boss as in shin megami tensei series. if we scared the monster his defence/attack power going down.. and other status effects. dont force it on players that dont want it hve spell to disable it.

4. have a party chat in the middle of battles as in dq7

5. let us chose if we want "defualt hero" or let us create him.

6. let us choose what to say to npcs.

7. have books like allways but make them longer as in "skyrim" let us steal them.

8. make the world and citys more interactive in nature. full of minigames. beyond the casino,

9. let the hero (and only him) to move in the battlefield and push monsters away. let them do it for him too.

10. let players to install it on the wii u somehow and play on wii u if they want.

12. well done square enix.

I find it kind of sad that people are rejecting aspects of DQX without having ever played the game.

I don't really have any list of wants for DQXI. As long as Horii, Sugiyama, and Toriyama are still involved I feel fairly safe with whatever they put out.

Agreed, I think a lot of people dismiss DQX based purely on knee-jerk reaction. I was fairly skeptical of DQX following its announcement, however, after having played the game for many, many hours, I will say that it retains many elements that long term fans will enjoy and find familiar.

As I said earlier in the thread, a lot of the directions been suggested in this thread would be far more of a departure for the series than what DQX has done, particularly the call for a 'darker' story which puzzles me somewhat.

DQ VIII/IX style graphics. HD or not.

Non-mute hero/party, personalities, party chat. DQ IX equipment customization.

DQ IX level of content i.e. quest, grottoes, etc.

Voice acting.

Not random encounters.

DQ IX style classes (more classes!) and skill point system.
