I don't do nicknames. Except for my Salamence. Wanna know how long I've had him? His nickname is Dragoon from BeyBlade. He's been in my party since Sapphire.

Prior to Gen 3 I didn't either. On my original Sapphire cart, I started doing it because it was the first time I actually tried Team building. Of course, I did it badly, but in gen 1 and 2 I didn't really have a fully leveled team at all. I beat Red, Yellow, and Gold by only levelling up my starter and some of the legendaries I caught. In Sapphire I began a practice I continue to this very day. Each member of my party has a designated, unyielded order number and I switch each Pokemon out once they go up a level, ensuring that each Poke is at the same level. When I started doing this I decided to give them nicknames because I grew more attached to them. I still have my original Sapphire team lineup on my AlphaSapphire cart...they're names were quite basic, though.

I like nicknaming my Pokemon with the first things that pop to mind.

For example, I named my Skitty's "GetsAround" and "Baby Daddy" for the female and male versions respectively...I'll show myself out now.

Another of my favorites is what I usually call Pidgey: CACAAAAAAAW!

Here are a few of mine...

1. Sceptile - Dragon (this turned out to be quite the coincidence considering that Sceptile's new mega evolution is half Dragon type)

2. Linoone - Pebbles (after my dachshund at the time)

3. Rimshot - Mightyena (NO, this is not a porn pun. I named him Rimshot after my cousin's black dog who was named after something they do in the basketballs)

4. Eagle - Pelliper

5. Serpent - Gyaradose

6. Bolt - Raichu

All of those were leveled up to 100 on my original Sapphire cart. I still break them out from time to time in battles.

Some of my more clever nicknames have come recently like my Yellow version Nidoking - Baratheon (from Game of Thrones) or Flygon-Jin from my AlphaSapphire team.

My LeafGreen team has probably some of the most unoriginal names, though with stuff like:

Venusaur - Veggie

Falcon - Pidgeotto

Machamp - Muscles

Slowking - Pokie

Porygon-Z - Polygon2 (I regret this. So much)

Beast - Charizard (after my cousin's Charizard back on his original Red version)

So I just booted up my Pokemon Black for the first time, in many many months, to get the free Pokemon from Gamestop (EB Games for you Canadians [i think]). I also put down a little coin on Pokemon Whi

Ninetails.

Infernape. My favorite, and in my opinion, best starter by far.

Would anyone happen to have any Pokémon that have transfer exclusive moves? I'll trade for them

I used to not do nicknames, but then got bored with the lack of names.

Nice Journey to the West reference.

I named my Salamence on X version Nimzo. That's the only DQ name I have, I think.

I forgot about my SoulSilver Pokes! They're some of my best names!

Feraligatr - Gojira

Wigglytugg - Iggy-Azale (named after the rapper....ehrr, don't judge me, it made more sense when she was an Igglybuff...and Wigglytuff does have a big tuff...I refuse to apologize)

Skarmory - Icarus (Wax-ehr steel wings)

Magcargo - Mags (may rethink this one)

Weavile - Frozanne (okay, I'm a little proud of this)

Hitmontop - Dizzy

I have quite a few more named, with references to Touhou, Gravity Falls and My Little Pony just to name a few. It'd just take a while to look them up.

Next breeding project is for a Jolly nature HA Eevee to evolve into a Leafeon.

Old TM moves, old move tutor moves, etc. Like Avalanche Bastiodon.

I don't know if I have any...but I still have all my old carts, dating back to Sapphire, Emerald, and LeafGreen. So it wouldn't be that hard to obtain.

By the way, found this hack over at the hacks studio. I can't believe how excited I am for it.

Usually, I like to nickname my Pokemon after fictional characters, taking characteristics of said character as well as similarities into account.

I named the green monkey from gen 4 (or 5, I don't know) Broccoli. That one was good for a laugh.

Probably should've called it "Tree Freak."

The green monkey's Pansage, and it's from Generation V.

How about NO. Broccoli was the first thing I thought of so Broccoli it became.

Despite never naming my Pokemon, I loved naming my character on Fire Red "An ass".  It was so much fun.  It was my game to reset over and over and trade with my main Leaf Green game.  I'd get news report about "An ass was spotted..."  and the game would say stuff like "An ass used ...."  I loved that game & that name.

  • 3 weeks later...

For some reason, I've had the urge to get back into Pokémon lately. I have not played anything since Platinum...but I'm getting an overwhelming urge to buy a 3DS and one of the new games and obsessively dive into it.

....perhaps after I'm done with my current run of Fallout 3.
