Yesterday I rolled through 2.1 up until the final boss, opened up the shortcut to the boss then...

139825197_zpsa7d3ced7.jpg

The only real troubles of this fight are the very beginning when you're dealing with 3 targets and the boss's habit of getting enraged at anyone using healing which results in him very frequently using a skill that our good friend, the super boss, uses when he is enraged. Having 100% Curse and confusion guard will make this attack do practically nothing, kirapon anyone that doesn't have these resists. After one of the minions goes down, it's pretty much over. After this I took a trip to the green chest room to claim my prizes:

139826576_zpsba34db7c.jpg

15/20 chests open, the rest contain accessories that can be stolen and a redundant Gold Casino Ticket since 2 Jade Keys are obtained via the casino. This morning I went through the optional dungeon south of Granzedora castle and picked up the last available stat seed in 2.1. Dat trial boss though... man... it was literally just missile spam every 5 seconds (can't reduce the damage, does 80% of your current HP). After that I reskilled into Spears, did a bit of grinding to test out the new solo spot (love it!) and then started on the Elf Continent quests that count towards your stamp card.

Having lots of fun finally going through this content.

Hit 72 on Priest and 44 on Item Master. I'll probably do some grinding sometime soon since I have a full stack of 30min genkis and probably should go through them before I do more of the beginner town quests.

Yeah, that door was a REAL pain.  It was harder than any of the other bosses.

Bosses like that are why I always have 2 priests in the party (1 AI and myself). At least the drops were good, 2000 gold and 3 items that sold for 800 each.

Finished the Elf continent stamp card and am now back to the grind. Went from 72-75 on Priest today first at Marine Slimes (121k and 142k from genkis there, no inn usage, healed MP with Magic Bottles) then gave the Octopi spot (~140k in an hour without using genkis, including a lag out, breaks, and using the inn) on the same map a try to compare them. Pretty sure the octopi are, in general, a better spot than Marine Slimes. Marine Slimes tend to run up to you, back off a bit and spread out, then attack which in lag causes the AoE Spear skill to just barely miss them. Kabuff twice can cause 3 hit kills even with close to 340 attack.

Octopis of course can call back up, and use Megazaru Dance, but it is very rarely a problem. Kind of difficult for them to do much when you're tearing through them like tissue paper.

For anyone unaware of which map this is. Remember the beach you're dropped off on when you start 2.0? It's the map east of that. Marine Slimes appear in groups of 2~4 in the big area in the bottom left, and Octopi appear in groups of 2~4 in the top right. Set your ruura in the beach town for Marine Slimes, or in the Gateway map (where you needed the 3 butterflies to pass in 2.0) for Octopi.

This weekend I did a lot of grinding with various members of the board and finally finished up my grinding as a priest.  I reached 90 points on the skill tree and have the passives I was after.  I'm glad to be done with that.  It was a long grind.  I don't really like being a priest.

Did a bit of story mode with Ashes.

We finished off the weekend with 4 of Ashes's cards.  Gaia Dragon, Baramos, and 3 bosses at once.

We beat the Gaia Dragon, which is always great.  Baramos we had the worst luck you could imagine.  Killed the Paladin right off the bat and then charmed all 3 of us at the same time.  With such bad luck we had no fair shot at him so it's hard to say how much of a match we really were.

For the 3 bosses at once; no excuses.  We got out-played and lost both tries.  It's a tough fight.  Hopefully in the future we can win it.

Yeah on the gods of evil spirits we lacked physical damage to get bazuzu down quickly. He was resistant to my Mage spells so he was dying too slowly.

After what was another fairly successful day, I was right about to log out when a friend called out to me and asked if I was free to help with a couple of card bosses. We ended up doing 1 Gods of Evil Spirits card, and 2 Gaia.

The Superstar who joined us for the Evil Spirits (3 bosses at once) fight was ridiculously good. She managed to keep the other 2 asleep the whole time I was tearing Pazuzu apart with my Battlemaster, got Atlas blinded as quickly as possible making him effectively harmless, was paralyzing all of their movements every few seconds through Fascination, and hardly took any damage the whole time thanks to her Bodyguard skill. The Gods didn't drop their mask (sadly), but it was such an overwhelming victory for my first time attempting the boss that I'm more than satisfied either way.

F4iOa0w.jpg

Gaia went slightly differently. The Superstar changed to her main class Mage, leaving us with 2 Priests and me as the Paladin. I am not the best Paladin around, and the only victory I've had against Gaia until now was through dumb luck and smart Priests. Since my HP is also kinda low for a Paladin, it's a real challenge just staying alive. This time around, I died twice. We very almost got wiped out on the first card. The Mage was a real trouper here, delivered the killing blow to Gaia while I was a corpse on the ground and mere moments before he was about to make chewtoys out of the other Priest.

AOFExsP.jpg

Yup, believe it or not, that is a "Victory" photo. He dropped his accessory.

Overjoyed, we went in for a second battle, and there's nothing to say. Complete easy victory. For the first time fighting Gaia, I actually managed to not turn into a corpse at some crucial moment. Didn't get his accessory from this fight, but 3 consecutive victories left us all more than satisfied and we decided to call it a day there. With that, I have now beaten every single main coin/card boss at least once. Still missing half the accessories ( including Pazuzu's Sorcery Ring... ;_; ) but the 2.0 and 2.1 content has had cards hidden in chests all over the place, so it's really only a matter of time at this point.

Hah yeah. Pretty sure the only accessory I've won through coin bosses is the Battle Choker from Atlas, and I got a Sorcery Ring as part of the last Christmas event. Then again I've only fought Atlas 3 times, the 3 of them once and that's all. Timezones kind of limit my ability to do coin bosses, every boss run I've done is either early morning or at midnight and I can't do either of those during weekdays due to work.

On another topic, for anyone who's obtained Skill Books that you trade in for Master Skill Points at Dharma Temple... make sure you always have all of that SP applied! You can apply and remove the SP whenever you want at Dharma Temple for free, so it makes no sense not to use it up. I say this ironically because I have 7 SP and am too lazy to go back.

Hit lv76 on Priest yesterday (138k genki, and a LMS showed up after the genki wore off but while I was still on cooking EXP). If I keep up my slow pace I'll hit 80 on Friday.

edit:

Welp, dunno what possessed me to level grind again but that was quick. Hit lv80 on Priest today. 120k~140k per genki sure makes it easy.

I am almost done with my stamp collection for my Rura Stone! HOORAY! Today has just been interesting. We started off meeting a random JP player outside the pyramid....

8eipGoa.jpg

We then fought the sweetest troll of them all!

CMdHnhF.jpg

We did pretty well. I finished him off with a classic fireball to the face!

That wasn't all though. I had to get back to my extended story and I... words. Do not... haz.

So today was the long-awaited day where me, my teammates, and a few friends had planned for fighting the final form of the superboss. For the past several weeks, we've all been grinding like crazy to stand a chance against him, and today we finally got to put our skills to the test.

Of our eight people, we had ONE Paladin and NO Warriors. I was playing as Item Master, and we had 3 Priests, the 1 Paladin, 1 Mage Knight, 1 Martial Artist, and 1 Mage. We all went into the dungeon expecting the worst, but everyone went with the classes they wanted to play as so that whether we won or lost, everyone would have at least had a fun time with it.

Not unexpectedly, we got off to a rocky start. The first of 3 bosses wiped us in seconds flat, but we managed to revive, recover, and go back in for a rematch. This time around, we won easily.

The next boss isn't even worth mentioning. It was hardly even a fair fight being able to use 8 people against this weak guy, he got maybe 3 hits in max before we minced him.

Then we moved in to fight the superboss himself. There were no rocky starts, everyone managed to get all their buffs and guards up perfectly. We managed to construct a patchwork wall consisting of a Paladin, a Martial Artist, and a Mage Knight who just barely managed to hold him back (when they weren't busy getting flattened, that is). Being a long fight, MP was our biggest problem. Or rather, would have been. Full-party Sage Waters restoring absolutely gigantic chunks of MP to everyone in range kept me busy, but it let me realize exactly how ridiculously useful the Item Master class really is. MP-restoring was the top priority, healing items second, buffing after that, and whenever I wasn't doing any of those things I'd be using my hammer to Cancel Shot the boss' attacks every chance I got. My Secret Move activated 3 times through the fight, each time turning both the Martial Artist and the Mage into terrifying machines of destruction and death.

And we won on the first try. No words could describe how surprised and overjoyed we all were. We had several close calls (wow, multi-target revive items are absolutely ridiculous), but in the end we won with everybody alive and kicking. There's still a few quests left to wrap up the story for it, but the most difficult part is out of the way now, so we all plan to take it easy and go through the rest at our own pace for a while.

Title for beating the boss:

Phew! Got quite a bit done this weekend and really wish I didn't go so all-out on it since it left me pretty tired.

On Friday I decided to max out the happiness on my Knight for Item Master, went from 28 to 100 in one session. Took about 4 1/2 hours but was totally worth it... although

141320113_zpse22fe955.jpg

That's how I felt after all that. My Item Master levelled from 45 to 48 from it.

Next up on Saturday Cran, Ashes, Merry and I did a coin boss marathon consisting of Bazuzu, Atlas and Belial. We did 15 coins in total and got 2 Battle Chokers, 1 Sorcery Ring and a bunch of fragments. After that I did 50 to 55 on Paladin and 48 to 50 on Item Master then did all of the Item Master job quests for their special move and accessory (1.1x rate for Metal monsters to show up!)

141581999_zpsf0ad5f28.jpg

Atlas again? Well not exactly but he has basically all of his moves...

And for today, I did 50 to 57 on Item Master, got 100 stamps which finally allowed me to get the HP passive in the Item Master tree again...

141577748_zps6d403289.jpg

So many Octopi being slaughtered... been averaging 142k per genki (+20% EXP from cooking) ever since I became consistent with hitting every enemy with the Spear AoE. Since it only hits everything in front of you it can miss if you're not careful. I'd suggest doing a trial run to learn how it works for yourself before using a genki.

I need to reach lv69 on Paladin in order to reclaim the 100 Wand skill without having to reskill again. Just 14 levels left! Go go go!

edit: Took a look at prices for low end Apollo's Axe (ã‚¢ãƒãƒãƒ³ã®ã‚ªãƒŽ, lv80) and Empire Blade (エンパイアブレード, lv80)... my god... I could get something that is close to being on par with a high end (+3 with 18 atk) lv75 weapon that costs millions for less than 100k each? Buying 1 of each when I get home.

Hit lv60 on Paladin yesterday and somehow managed a 143k genki without cooking EXP. Really caught me off guard because I botched several fights during that and didn't run into any metal monsters. Ah well, 9 levels left.

This is why I can't stand being a pot alchemist.  They're all idiots that sell alchemy work for practically nothing (unless it's daiseikou, in which case they overcharge for something as insignificant as +1) and beat the prices down so low, it's just not worth doing.

Well last night dormando and Ikept getting chests with 2 tickets, and so we kept running labyrinth. Talaria then joined us for one and we ran into torneko. Apparently, metal babble coins sell for 76k right now. Yay for that. However, we still got 2 tickets so we tried our luck one more time. Tamarins had to leave, and get to the rookie metal event, so we hopped back onto our main classes. We made it through the labyrinth for the 5th maybe 6th time deciding to take whatever we got.

Good thing we were on our main class because we ran into zombie baramos. He was no pushover. We neatly wiped, but we did win. 1 purple orb and 3 tickets were ours! Also, it was funny because the first two runs we had a magic knight and me on mine. We finished the labyrinth with full MP. Odd occurrence and kinda silly, but it worked.

It really is ridiculous for these weapons... I ended up buying:

Empire Blade +2, with two 6(-3) attack, 97k = 164 atk, which is 4 attack above the lv75 2H Sword if you got 3 6s on it. Those were 1.2 million

Apollo's Axe +1, with 4(+3) attack, 75k = 152 atk, which is 3 attack below the lv75 Axe.

Sure I won't be using them for quite a long time, but worst case scenario is pretty much just having to resell them when lv85 equips come out.

Fought King Hydra for the first time in a while today. We were originally gonna go with 2 Priests, 1 Martial Artist and 1 Battlemaster like we usually do, but the other Priest was only level 50 so we went with 3 Priests to be on the safe side (two level 50, one level 75)... leaving me, the Battlemaster, as the sole damage dealer.

I'll say this, the Empire Blade came in ridiculously handy with its "50% chance to reduce the enemy's Tension" effect. Thanks to that and me having 100% Poison and Dance guard equipment, we somehow managed to win after a hilariously entertaining battle. Half his attacks were bouncing right off me, and I was recovered to full health after every attack that didn't kill me in one hit thanks to the Priests having so much room to spare that they started chatting mid-battle.

The best part is that we also got his accessory. The guy who gave us the card was so happy that he asked us to tag along again the next time he has one as well, with the same party setup.

The past week or so was all about level grinding for me and when I take a look back on it:

- Paladin: 50 to 69

- Item Master: 43 to 60

Good lord... I just did 36 levels in about 7 days.

After all that I decided to remind myself why I went through that effort by trying out a trial boss in the final dungeon of the 2.1 content that I skipped when playing through the story. Needless to say, having my Wand skill remaxed and fighting a boss that spams a crazy variety of bad status skills was a pretty great reminder. I really should be running trial bosses weekly... I can complete all of them with little trouble, they're great money, and they give me something to do during those extremely busy weekend hours when level grinding efficiently is a pain.

btw, my sub ran out on Sunday and I won't be resuming it again until this weekend. Not really burned out, just low on genkis and I don't do much other than level grinding during weekdays.

I just used the Superstars' "Best Smile" for the first time...

Hands down the best animated move in the game.  Better than the special skills (hissatsuwaza).

@Kwr

Are you doing all this intensive leveling solo with supports?  I'd be bored out my mind.  I don't think I've ever done grinding solo that was over lv 40.

Since I'm playing on the Wii U gamepad I just throw a show on to listen to and help kill the boredom.

Finally free from leveling!  Secured enough Skill points to make all Paladin skills 130. (except for spears which is 0 since I don't use them).  I can finally get back to doing labyrinth with my main.

Been doing a bunch of leveling without using genkis this weekend since I'm pretty low on them. Think I'll reach 72 on Paladin and Item Master then decide if I'm going to hit the cap right away on both or reskill to get Axes and work on Warrior, Ranger and Monster Tamer.

Also did a few strong bosses. The second Puklipo boss and the boss of the 2.0 Seredo are very simple with AI, close to a ruura point so you don't need to burn through MP items, and the latter gives 2 orbs instead of 1. I just wish I could run the former on a class besides Priest so that I can run it with a class that has Evac... the main boss has a spinning attack that hits things around him and it has a high chance to charm anything hit by it. Naturally we all know what the AI is like with attacks like that.

Oooh a penny! MUST. STAND. IN. THI-*hit*

And I need to stop overdoing it the day I resub... I did another 12 hour session on Saturday. I mean I did a long session today, but I took reasonable breaks every hour or so... Saturday was just... how was I not tired this morning?

My expression in that pic is priceless.

"Hey guys... I like... y'know... play Martial Artist too... not just Priest... Just saying... ehehe"

I've been trying out a new material run route that takes a bit longer than my previous one to run but my goodness it has some nice returns. Old run earned about 12k for 22 min, this one earns about 24k for 32 min. It abuses a bunch of spots that provide the same materials 100% of the time and the fact that the material spots in 2.0 and 2.1 are the same items, in the same locations but considered different spots so you can pick them up twice.

http://dragon-quest.jp/ten/map/fild/

In case you want to find your own route you can try out this site or you could just pester me to come along on one of my runs.

Other than that been grinding slowly but surely on Item Master. Probably going to break from it to get a few levels on Mage at Bazaks, for 1. Potential Super Boss runs this weekend (woo shortcut!!), and 2. My Cat Mage is really close to its 5th reincarnation and I want to powerlevel it because of how amazing it is for Bazaks grinding after it has access to Boom (all monsters require 5 reincarnations to be able to choose the Bang spell tree as one of your 2 trees) and the fact that you can tell your monster what skills not to use so it doesn't waste time or MP being stupid like Mage AI does.

Also trying to decide if I should spend my casino coins on a Chimaera book for its Chimaera Wing skill (Ruura to the place you've set your revival point at). Still lacking a VIP License but that loss streak last weekend... 2000 coins down the drain due to losing 6 times in a row when I bet on half the board. I'm thinking maybe my luck will turn around when I'm playing for fun and not playing and hoping my coins won't dip below 3000 and locking me out of that book until I win more... or something like that.
