Ooh, I have all sorts of cards, tickets, and paper in my bank. I just don't know what any of them do.

Where are the codes on there? Are they Japanese text, or am I missing a column with the codes?

Main benefits of having a house are:

- Zoom stone for your house. Since there's almost guaranteed to be an exit nearby, this can also double as a Zoom stone for the city your housing district is attached to. (Glen is a popular choice due to the bazaar, but that might be about to change MASSIVELY with the upcoming World Bazaar update.)

- Other people can buy an "Invitation Wing" for your house if you let them, which functions as a 10-use consumable Zoom stone directly to your house.

- Growing plants, for colouring use in dress-ups OR Cooking worker ingredients. Even if you do neither of these things, the items can be sold at the bazaar for good prices. There are also Treasure seeds which can give stuff like Gold Slime coins. At any rate, it's a good source of money.

- Raising your pet and having them give you items as gifts depending on how often you pet them. Have recently started giving lottery tickets in addition to items used for dress-up accessories for all your pets.

- Private Concierge. In addition to the usual Concierge functions, they'll also give you presents every now and then. Mostly consumable items, but sometimes hand-knitted equipment (for dress-up purposes) as well.

- Buy a bed, never pay inn fees again. Small bonus compared to the other stuff but who can say no to a free full-heal.

- Personal mailbox. Can receive mail without having to go to a post office.

- MASSIVELY expanded storage space for items. A cabinet for 50 (I think?) items, and an Attic which can hold a further 50 (again, not sure if it was 50 or 60) items.

- Dress-Up Doll. Has the same number of equipment slots as your character (minus the "invisible" slots for fishing rods and worker guild equipment), and can be used to hold equipment of your choice so that it doesn't take up inventory space. Can get more than one of these depending on how many quests you do/mini-medals you shell out.

Each thing on its own doesn't seem that big, but it adds up fast. And I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting at least a few other things. If you have a Free Land Ticket, there's really no reason not to have a house short of their being no free space in the housing district you had your eye on. Even then I would recommend compromising and getting a house anyway, it's nothing but benefits.

Seeing as the Dracky setup worked quite well with pyramid 7, I decided to see if I could manage another thing that gave me trouble...

229243945_zpsea2976be.jpg

And that it did as the strong version of Hellbattler (v2.1s final boss) got curb-stomped. I remember way back when I had difficulty with the NORMAL version of this boss (granted that was back when my only class at the cap was MA). The strong version? Kirapon anyone that needs protection from curse and confuse, and spam boosted Kaswoosh thanks to Dracky's overpowered Magic Song. The boss ends up wasting turns calling for backup, which is instantly blown away before he can even begin to make them dangerous.

I do need to reconsider Dracky's build. Since it's been costing quite a bit of magic waters when dealing with a single target due to the low single-target damage output this setup has. Kafrizz or Kazam would help quite a bit here (leaning towards the latter as pyramid 7's boss resists fire). My current setup gives Dracky an extra 45 defense and 5% dodge rate which really doesn't amount to that much in the end.

This means I've been able to clear every strong boss that appears in the strong warrior book with AI. Wonder if I can handle Nelgel.

Also did quite a bit of accessory hunting for some more hakuai rings. I somehow managed to snag a thief with 2.0x rare drop increase so I figured I'd go all out. Ended up getting a total of 11 rings over the 5 hours of hunting... then it was time to blow it all on fusion...

I got Seal Guard 5% twice... BARELY. Made my ring 10%, 5%, 5% and ended the horror. Granted I don't have a Taima set and won't be able to buy one in the near future... but at least if I do I already have the ring done.

The worst part? Apparently the chances of getting the best effect on an accessory are around 5% for most of them (HP5 on Gaia orb, Atk 5 on Battle Choker, 5% survive with 1 HP on Silver Rosary, etc.). Given that my ring was +2, and already had 10% on it... I've done 13 fuses on that ring, so 1/13 which is actually better than the expected rate. Curse my above average luck!

On another note, secondary best effects are apparently around a 10% chance for them to show up. These are things like:

- HP2 on Battle Choker (I've seen this 4 times already... Battle Choker eternally at 332 Atk. Atk +5? That effect doesn't exist. What's that you say? You got a 5? lalalalala I can't hear you! 3 is the max!)

- HP2 on Gracos' accessory

- HP3 on Silver Rosary

- HP3 on Hydra Belt (do want! 4 Weight is the rarer one and that's fine by me!)

- MP3 on Baramos' Necklace

It really shows, I got the HP max on a Silver Rosary quite effortlessly and have never seen a 5% survive with 1 HP show up. Which ironically couldn't be better, who'd want the rarest effect to show up when making an HP rosary? That'd be horrific!

Knowing approximately how low the chances are has also made me change up my game plan for Gaia Orbs. Seeing how mine is already at 444, it seems like a massive waste to attempt for 555 on that one. So I've shifted to making a 2nd Orb. Worst case scenario? This one ends up at 444 before a 5 shows up and I have a second orb with 37 HP for my monster to use. Better than pouring all of that gold down the drain for nothing.

Thanks for all the info. When I have some extra gold I'm going to look into it. What advantage does a medium size house give over a small one?

I think some houses only work in M size plots, and others only work in S size plots. Could be mistaken. I picked up a M size plot in Pukuripo town with my free land ticket.

For what it's worth, the free land ticket can only be exchanged for the cheapest plots. That is, ones that have been empty for awhile and are at the minimum price.

What does a free land ticket look like? What's the kana for it? I may or may not have one...

For me the 15% survival is better than the 9HP you could aim for. I would think that the extra 15% (Total then being 25% of the time) surviving a hit that would have killed you is more likely to occur than having been able to survive if you had 9 more HP.

Thank you Mimas! Looks like it only works on Small or Medium plots, which would explain why it wasn't working. (I just put all my paper/ticket items in my inventory in hopes that one of them was what I was looking for.) I ended up spending 100k Gold on a large plot. I have my own house now! It's pretty bare at the moment though, because I'm pretty much broke.

Cran helped me unlock Beastmaster today, and I got my first pet! It's a Moumon (Teeny Sanguini), and I named him Buddy.

I also used my first Metal Labrynth ticket - whoa those are just too overpowered. How is the game balanced at ALL? - Anyways, I hit the first level cap (50) with my Theif class, and since I didn't feel like digging up the quest guide, I just switched back over to Beastmaster and grinded that class along with Buddy for ~45 minutes. I used a couple Super Genki Balls tonight, because I had 15 sitting around in the bank. When I get up in the morning, I think I'm going to get right back at the game, I'm so excited.

That really wasn't the point I was making there.

HP 3 appears ~10% of the time

5% Survival appears ~5% of the time

My rosary quickly became 332. Having the rarest effect show up would've been a disaster. Now I have it and can focus on the survival rate on my next one.

I went into the casino today with 3000 coins. I came out of it with...

dBSGGmi.jpg

...a Magic Carpet Prism, plus a dozen Mystery Card accessories. Naturally, 10 out of 12 of the cards turned into useless effects like Speed +2, Style +2, or Defense +4, but I managed to wring a Magic Might +4 and Attack +1 out of Rine's neck so it wasn't a TOTAL waste. Now the card is Attack +3 and Magic Might +4 in total. Here's hoping I can stick another Attack +2 on it at some point! (ha ha ha ;_; )

But no seriously, the VIP room in the casino is downright terrifying. Grand total of zero raids and I was rolling in 100,000 casino coins in under 2 hours. Will definitely be going back there again in the near future, the slots are so much faster than the 2nd floor that it's downright crazy.

Due to what I can only assume was massive boredom on my behalf. I seriously dunno what possessed me to do this but...

*crosses Strong Nelgel off of list of strong bosses to beat with only AI*

3 Green Orbs from the chest too.

Part 1:

This section of the fight consists of a light match against Nelgel, followed by Evil Spirits (all can move immediately), followed by another light match against Nelgel. Your HP and MP are not refilled for part 2 so get ready to burn through some magic waters. I decided on Catmage (to put the spirits to sleep), Sage and obviously Priest for AI and went in as a MA. This section of the fight is surprisingly not that difficult. I was worried that my Catmage wouldn't use Nyarupunte often enough since I didn't disable all of his other moves. He didn't, and it still turned out rather well due to everyone having tank-like (530+) HP. Cleared in 11min. Fast right? I mean I spend at least several of those using magic waters to make sure we were okay for part 2.

*insert several minute long unskippable cutscene here*

Part 2:

Pssst, when Nelgel uses his physical and magic guards it can be removed by Sage. So whichever hand you strike down is irrelevant. The AI is rather stupid when it comes to this boss... be ready to fork over some Yggdrasil Leaves as they like to bunch up and all get hit by his fists of fury. Other than that this fight is pretty much standard stuff.

...a Magic Carpet Prism, plus a dozen Mystery Card accessories.

Ironically so, the chances of getting something you want on your card are pretty decent. It's apparently a 60/40 split between bad effects and good effects and there are 10 types of effects. So a 10% chance to get something towards what you want, and a 4% chance to get what you want. My very first one was HP4... and Rine is taking me to the cleaners after letting that happen.

...

I did some hunting for paralyse guard rings and strength rings this weekend and decided to finally bite the bullet with all of the accessories and fragments I had saved up. It... it didn't go very well.

Fusions done:

2 Paralyse rings: 10% paralyse guard (should've. stopped. here.)

2 Baramos: 2 Magic might

2 Hydra: 3 HP (hawt dawg! A perfect 3 HP boost is also much more common than 4 Weight being a secondary effect. I should totally run Hydra more often as this brought my Priest up to 512 HP.)

2 Atlas: 3 Atk (finally... 333... it's perfect now right? 5 doesn't exist... right? :( )

6 Gaia: 334 on 2nd Orb

5 Anubis Brooch: All fail, still 334

2 Strength rings: 1 Attack both times (311 ring... yay...)

Still literally zero progress towards a perfect Choker, Necklace and Orb... pretty sure I've gone through well over 100 accessories from the labyrinth in total and only got the rarest effect for any accessory once. The +1 MP recovery to sorcery ring.

Naturally, I've decided to not hoard accessories from now on. Doing a ton at once gives a false sense of security, and only makes the extremely likely chance to bust even more painful when it happens. So much heartbreak last weekend...  :ws-slimedead:

Been trying to get caught up with everything before version 3 comes out.

I finished all of my job questlines and Cran and I finished Kandata's quest a few minutes ago, leaving my pending quest list empty!  That leaves me with (as far as I'm aware) the 2 DQ4 quests (find Torneko and find Minea), a fishing rank-up quest, and some craft rank-up quests.

I did some treasure hunting, and have obtained all treasure chests outside of Rendashia!

I have also updated my monster list, and plan to trim that down as small as possible soon.

Last week brought us the final chapter of Kandar's crazy antics:

We return to the moon to find a space ship. IN SPACE! Oh no! Space aliens have captured Kaguya! In... space.

Sadly, we cannot reach the ship as it is too high up to jump to... unless... we obtain the legendary jumping boots that Kandar just happens to know the location of. After we quickly get them, we storm the ship!

Alright space alien in space. Time for a beating!

232513586_zpsblwhjchw.jpg

In this battle, we finally get to see another NPC join the fray. Up until now we've only had Anlucea join us for certain bosses, but this time Kandar joins us! And he spends a fair amount of turns losing a turn due to being fascinated by his muscles. No really... I'm not joking. He makes up for it by having a move that instantly puts the entire party in super high tension.

Gotta say, this boss sure had a lot of HP. Not particularly difficult, it just went on and on.

After defeating him, we need to find a way to save Kaguya. But never fear, in a ridiculously massive cliche of a way to save her, we do! Kandar presses the big red button that somehow turns off everything while activating a self-destruct sequence, Kaguya drops in comical fashion to be caught, cut to the ship vanishing in a fiery explosion... but we're all okay! Heheh... this scene knew exactly what it was doing, exactly what it wanted to be and despite being ridiculously obvious was just so darn funny.

Afterward the overly dramatic rescue. Kaguya admits that... that!!

She fell in love with Kandar at first sight? Whaaaaaaaaaaa? And will reward him with the treasure of the moon that we had been seeking from the last quest.

Kandar: "No way! You're taking away the thrill of stealing the treasure!"

Hah. He also makes a note that he is setting out on a journey to obtain the remaining 100 treasures of the world as we leave. Kaguya makes the oh-so-obvious cliched response that she will wait for him.

Returning home, Kandar rewards us with the title of being his greatest follower, and a treasure chest gesture. Before setting off, he again makes sure to remind us he is leaving to find the remaining 100... no... 99 treasures of the world.

D'awww.

232514215_zpsgjau18xz.jpg

I sure hope we see you again Kandar!

During the weekend, it was finally time to catch up on about 3 weeks worth of royal labyrinths... and about an extra week and a half added onto that because of all of the belts thrown my way and promptly fed to the hungry door leading to the royal labyrinth. Verified a few things though:

- Minimedals obtained from boxes are: 1 Bronze, 2 Silver, 3 Gold

- 3 Demons card is definitely available from gold boxes (I... I didn't want to buy equips for that yet.)

Card/Coin/Pyramid accessory fusions were a bust again so I think I'm just going to stop updating on them. Sorcery Ring got 4 MP again, so I guess there's that... but still no reason to remind myself of the fail.

We did learn that we can easily manage Gaia with 3 players, so might be able to slip some newer players into that to help them get one of the best accessories in the game. Granted that assumes we have cards... and they're willing. I'm not joking, we drafted Goldman into our runs this weekend and they were lv28 with no passives. There's nothing to be worried about. If we're asking if anyone wants to join for some freebies, you should be just jumping at the opportunity. A chance at an accessory with 25 HP isn't something you would want to miss.

Seriously, they started playing barely over a week ago. Anyone who didn't speak up missed out.

To end the weekend, we did some trial runs on Hydra to determine if we're ready to fight the 3 Demons. We're not. There's no way to sugar-coat this... 2 min is when Dark Baramos is able to move, Hydra needs to be taken down before that. On another note, I made a rather funny (looking back on it) comment about being discouraged about the amount of damage I was doing with Tiger Claw after a Force Break.

Daaang... can't break 600 on the first hit...

I took a look at the runs I was basing my damage on and noticed they're doing slightly less damage than me. Oh. My. Gawd. That was without cooking too. All thanks to the royal labyrinth throwing belts at me like cotton candy and one of them not being hardcore failure...

+7% Dragon damage

+6% Wind skill damage

upgraded to add 16 Deftness allowing me to trash my other belt with 16 Deftness and nothing else good to free up space.

Oh yeeaaah. Hydra killer belt! Could be better, but I'll definitely take this one as a massive win.

So I've been busy treasure hunting this weekend, and can now say that (until the next patch comes out) I have collected 100% of the treasure chests!

Don't worry Krw/Cran/Mimas, we've got 2 more Hydra cards to practice with already!  ;)

I need to get back in the game soon. I just haven't had a lot of time to play lately.

So yesterday was quite interesting, offered to do a few Dragon Gaia cards since we had them and after the first one...

ドラゴンガイア

...

å¼·

Oh... crap...

Just as a friendly reminder in the future. Be sure to confirm if your card is the strong version of the boss. The regular version of Gaia is mostly child's play with someone to pin him down... the strong version... uh... not-so-much.

From the beginning I can tell you this much. I really, really, REALLY didn't want to try a serious attempt on the boss. Even if we did manage to pull a win out, it wasn't going to be pretty and it was going to take for-freaking-ever to finish. After a near wipe out which we somehow managed to get back on our feet. He had just broken my auto-life and everyone else was down for the count... but somehow... somehow we recovered. From that point on:

"Screw it. Gaia, you're going doooown."

Yellow? Yellow health?! What is this I don't even...?!

RED?!?!

And then tragedy struck! Right as we were getting very, very close to winning... He finally got the upper-hand on us and was smacking us down with a vengeance! Oh the horror!!

Too bad:

From Desmond's journal:

2015/03/10

ã€ã‚³ã‚¤ãƒ³ã€‘アユミラã€ã‚¢ãƒ™ãƒ³ã‚²ãƒ¼ã€ãƒžãƒƒãƒˆã¨ãƒ‰ãƒ©ã‚´ãƒ³ã‚¬ã‚¤ã‚¢å¼·ã‚’ã¯ã˜ã‚ã¦å€’ã—ãŸï¼

From Avenger's journal:

2015/03/10

ã€ã‚³ã‚¤ãƒ³ã€‘アユミラã€ãƒ‡ã‚¹ãƒ¢ãƒ³ãƒ‰ã€ãƒžãƒƒãƒˆã¨ãƒ‰ãƒ©ã‚´ãƒ³ã‚¬ã‚¤ã‚¢å¼·ã‚’ã¯ã˜ã‚ã¦å€’ã—ãŸï¼

It wasn't enough Strong Gaia. We recovered again and dropped you like a fool. After... nearly 20 minutes.

Our saving grace for this was the following:

ã‚‚ãˆã•ã‹ã‚‹ç«ç‚Ž: 600-640 damage, on hit breaks your elemental resistance (i.e: Force Break)

My equips:

44% breath resist shield

60% fire resist from water robe

2% natural fire resist for Ogre

Break does makes you 100% more vulnerable to all elements. Fire in this case.

640 * 1.38 * 0.56 = 495

With 512 HP I need not fear his fireballs even without buffs. He also can't one shot me with it after auto-life kicks in and the invincibility buff wears off, so when I saw it I used the time to revive several people.

I watched a few rather interesting accessory fusion videos which have given me a new perspective on it. Watching someone go in with 60 Battle Chokers and get 555 after 57 fuses... Yeah, me thinks I should just relax and enjoy the ride. So from this point on (starting from before last night's Gaias), I'm going to keep track of every card/coin I use, used by others, every fusion, the effect and whatever. After completing an accessory, I will have a full record of it and can share the pain with everyone!

Better than moping about it. Plus, it makes it more fun. There's also the fact that:

Anubis Brooch: 334 (also had a 4MP show up): 4HP, 4MP appear at a 5% rate

Seto Brooch: 223: 3 Attack, 5% rate

Swirly Glasses: Perfect: 10% Charm guard, 5% rate (It took me only around 40!)

Strength Ring: 311: 3 Attack? 5% rate

Hakuai Ring: 10% Seal Guard, 5% rate

Full Moon Ring: 10% Paralyze Guard, heeeey 5% rate

Again, perspective. It's not like I've never gotten rarest effects before.

Today they released the Cabinet Mimic scouting book.  I had been saving my lottery tickets for this, and today I put them to use.  It took a lot of tickets, and I am grateful for the new "draw 10 at once" feature, but I did finally hit my 3 and receive the book.  Mimas thought she had seen one in the real Witch's forest.  I looked, but I wasn't able to find one there.  Matt thought he had seen one inside a well near Mel Sandy.  I went there, and it was tucked away in a far off corner, but I did find a lone Cabinet Mimic there.  I fought it, and fortunately, it joined up with me.  Luck was with me there.

I haven't taken it into battle yet, but it's gesture animations are a lot of fun.  It really has a lot of personality.

Can't believe we had to run a full 10 fragments in order to get them that Gaia orb... 9 + 1 strong + 1 young in total across two days for 13 fragments. Game, I'm trying to be nicer to new players. Please lend them the power of RNGesus to get me more accessories them their first Gaia orb.

From the looks of it, there are more quests to go until the next super boss. Honestly, it isn't a surprise as some of the quests have an extra event after clearing them but only if you're a certain race. Dwarf, Elf, Puklipo and Weddie have had theirs so far. Expect at least one more quest before the finale. Not to mention... the announcement for the 5th and 6th part say nothing about this being the end. So yeah... why was I going to have to stay up til possibly several hours after midnight?

edit: My mistake, Weddie's/Ogre's extra scene was part of the 6th quest. Close to the end then!

Wednesday brought two very important firsts for me:

- My first full-fledged, all-out, burning a massive hole in my pocket... level 80 armor set! Golden Dragon for anyone wondering. It's pretty much objectively the best MA/Battle Master gear in the game. Even if a new set gets released, that 20% charm guard set effect is too amazing to pass up.

- First time ever using the Moumon Bazaar. The savings!

And I'm not joking about the costs...

- 24 HP Hat: 1.68 mil

- 36% Breath resist top: 1.68 mil

- 15% no MP usage gloves: 1.27 mil (went for the all-around rather than slight damage boosts from crits/defense down)

- 100% Dance and 100% Trip Guard shoes: 2.4 mil

The Moumon bazaar buys saved me about 200k in total. If you want to check them out, people post them in the forums section of this wiki http://xn--10-yg4a1a3kyh.jp/dq10_bbs8.html. With the unified bazaar you can easily cross-check these prices and deal hunt.

Our questline for the next 2 party boss is almost complete!

After that whole moment where we were attacked by nightmares in the last quest these ones seemed a bit unnecessary.

At least this first boss was quite fun. You fight two at the same time and they can dish out heavy amounts of damage.

This one... not-so-much... the problem with basing a boss on Basagrande is that he's not really a difficult boss due to everything being easily dodgeable. Oh and that one stupid lightning attack that does like no damage, knocks you down, if you're standing by him it is a royal pain to dodge, and he waits around forever after using it making it completely non-threatening. Yeah... this one has that too.

At least we have the final quest to look forward to this week. Well, this weekend as I have no time to run it during the week.

After the quests, I was rather surprisingly (thought it'd be Saturday morning) asked to a 3 Demons party by Mimas with Yuu and Wing. Would all of my preparations be for nothing? Would we fail hardcore? Am I just messing with you because you already know the answer is we won every time?

234627075_zpsidg8al97.jpg

Of course I am. Our 4th battle also had Yuu on their sub character using Warrior instead of Magic Knight (never again!). 4 wins, 5 fragments... Soon... soon I will have that accessory.

This fight puts you up against:

King Hydra - ã‚ãƒ³ã‚°ãƒ’ドラ

Baramos Zombie - ãƒãƒ©ãƒ¢ã‚¹ã‚¾ãƒ³ãƒ“ - Starts moving 1 min after the fight starts, or immediately after they take damage.

Dark Baramos - ãƒãƒ©ãƒ¢ã‚¹ãƒ–ロス - Starts moving 2 min after the fight starts, or immediately after they take damage.

Note: Dark Baramos is the one visible in the room that you run into to start the fight. Hydra spawns behind and to the right (based on the 1st person battle start POV), have someone stand to Dark Baramos' left to easily start forming a wall in front of Hydra.

Obviously, don't attack Zombie, Dark Baramos or use any area of effect abilities that do damage or they will start moving. Things that don't do damage are fine. The recommended setup for this fight is 2 Martial Artists, Magic Knight and Priest. Liger Crush's burst damage pretty much destroy's the damage output that Battle Master can provide. MA's coup de grace is also extremely helpful for managing the fight when Zombie or... hopefully not... Dark Baramos start moving before Hydra is taken down. Hydra needs to fall, he's the most dangerous of the 3 in damage, and the fact that he can raise all of their tension. Plus his big butt gets in the way of the camera and so can't easily see when Dark Baramos is winding up his insta-death jumps.

The beginning of the battle is basically all-out offense from the MAs being buffed by the magic knight in order to topple Hydra. Ideally with enough HP, breath resist and of course dance resist. The party can literally stand in front of Hydra and wail on him. It's not necessary to win (we didn't use it), but it is the fastest and shockingly safe strategy for dealing with Hydra. Unless you're really quick, Zombie will probably start moving before Hydra bites the dust, focus on Hydra as Zombie isn't usually a massive threat.

After Hydra falls, anyone with shields should get critical hit guard on themselves when they get an opening. Zombie loves to desperate attack, and will smite you with his bony fingers if you so much as look at him funny. He also uses Break Breath. MA can remove it from themselves with ä¸æ’“ä¸å±ˆ, and should do so as soon as possible.

Then, sometime before you take down Zombie... our real problem is going to start moving. Dark Baramos is the type of enemy you don't take your eyes off of. He will jump, he will jump a lot, and if you aren't paying attention you are going to die a horrific death. No seriously, during the first fight I took my eyes off him for what felt like a second (it wasn't) and he made sure to let me know he was there. Wing didn't dodge that one either so it was less embarrassing for me. Unlike the regular Baramos, his version of the jump attack doesn't have an instant version. He jumps after 3,5,7 arm waves. If you don't know what I mean, just watch any video of this fight on youtube and watch for it. Since we have a fair bit more lag to deal with than Japanese players, the easiest way to dodge the attack is to jump the second you see the first arm wave and then run out of range.

Ironically so, that's how they dodge it too.

Charm dance is fun without 100% charm guard. Happened twice, and both times Wing and Yuu got charmed. Meanwhile, I was standing there the whole time wailing on Dark Baramos laughing at him due to being charm immune, then slapping those two silly. He also has a claw attack, that does ~530 damage and paralyses you if you survive it.

Such a rush!! Looking forward to the next time I'm invited for a full run of them.

The rest of the weekend was full of tons of card bosses, only 2 accessory drops, and we also took another crack at the Uber Killing Machines, died twice...

234897343_zpsymda2zzf.jpg

Then lucked out. Clearly we weren't doing enough damage quickly enough, but on the 3rd attempt the second machine decided to not run right up to me and smash my face in. Giving us enough time to take out the first, and win... a fragment.

With the intense shadow of bad luck hanging over my head, I decided what better time than now to do some accessory fusion!

2 Gracos accessories and nothing worthwhile.

1 hakuai ring for def +1. Ohhh yeeeaah keep em coming Rine!

Then...

+5% survival rate on Silver Rosary ?!?!?!

...

Progress?

PROGRESS!!!

Looking forward to the next one after like 100 more accessories!

So, today I suddenly got invited by a friend to run the new super boss, Nokturnus. What followed was downright crazy.

After the fight, another friend announced that she'd caught the whole thing on video, and asked if she could upload it to youtube. While embarrassed at how much we got absolutely slaughtered over the course of the fight, everyone agreed to have it uploaded, so there it is.

Let me just say, this boss is HARD. There are a whole number of things to watch out for during this fight... Hell, it'd take less time to count the things you don't need to be very careful about.

The first and single most difficult part of the fight is the time limit. You're limited to 20 minutes, and must defeat him within this time. What's that? He had 50 HP left and was right about to keel over? TOO BAD, YOUR FIREBALL'S CAST TIME WAS HALF A SECOND TOO SLOW. Also, about MP recovery: Mages are, under no ordinary circumstances, allowed to recover their own MP. This uses up turns which could have been spent attacking. This in turns wastes time. You do not have any time to waste during this fight. The Item Master is 100% responsible for everyone's MP, and this means being prepared to spend a LOT of gold on MP recovery items. Like, Superstar-levels of "Where did all my gold go?!" That's what happens when you have two whole parties full of people who burn through MP like nobody's business.

As for the fight itself, it happens in 3 "stages" depending on how much of his HP you've shaved off. His attack patterns change with each stage.

29lUP9w.jpg

Stage 1: Warming up.

This part's not so bad. Normal attack hits for about 500 damage, so Priests and Item Masters are going to want HP above this amount if at all possible. There's actually room to cast buffs during this stage (and this stage only) though, so with Defense buffs his regular attacks are not so scary. What IS scary is when he uses either Gigadein (900 damage) or Falcon Slash (400 damage, hits twice). He hits hard and he moves fast, but with a pair of hammer users keeping him downed with Stun Shot whenever it's charged, it's entirely manageable.

For now, at least.

Stage 2: Where the bloody hell did THAT come from?

During this stage, he starts using what is by far one of his most terrifying skills: Gigathrow. Imagine Gigaslash, except it hits everything in a straight line. Across the ENTIRE distance of the map. For 900 damage. This move ALONE pretty much renders a party with Paladins utterly meaningless (not that you could hold him back for very long anyway). Take your eyes off him for even a second, and he WILL snipe you with it. And the Priest who runs over to revive you... And the Mage who ran up with a leaf to revive the Priest. Did I mention that on the off-chance the Priests were fast enough to get a blue halo up on you so you can withstand the attack with 1 HP, that it also causes Paralysis? Yeah. If the Priests simultaneously get hit with that, it is not pretty.

He also starts using his own variation of a War Cry during this stage. It's sort of like Dragon Gaia's roar, except in addition to knocking you down, it also inflicts Curse (Max HP down), Spell Seal, Skill Seal, Confusion, AND Speed Down x2. However, his War Cry will not instantly kill you. Only mostly kill you. It deals some % of your remaining HP, I dunno the exact amount. Either way, do not count on any hammer users being able to Cancel Shot ANY of this. The charge times for most of his attack animations are way too fast to get a Cancel Shot in, and that's assuming there was any suicidal idiot close enough to him to get an attack like that in in the first place.

Stage 3: EVERYONE EVERYWHERE IS NOW DEAD, FOREVER.

See this skill he's loading up right there? That's Grand Cross. Let me attempt to explain why this move is the single most terrifying thing I have ever seen in this game so far.

First, it hits a wide area in the shape of a cross. Okay, that's not so bad, most of his attacks so far were AoE anyway. Next, it deals around 1500 or 1600 damage. Okay, that's kinda scary, but if the Priests get those blue è–女 halos up in time it's still perfectly manageable... right? Wrong. It does, indeed hit for 1500 damage. Twice. Yeah. It's a multi-target Falcon Slash which hits for 1500 damage per slash, for a total of OVER 3000 DAMAGE, tearing through your è–女 protection like it's made of wet tissue paper. This move WILL kill you. It'll kill you a LOT. It'll also kill anyone standing near you, and then it'll kill the people who ran over to revive you as well, because he can and will use this attack in rapid succession.

He has a few other skills during this stage. One hits random targets directly in front of him for 500 damage, and hits 7 times. This WOULD be Grand Cross levels of terrifying, if not for the fact that the attack animation is one of the longest - if not THE longest - of all of his skills. This gives anyone who's not being chopped up into mincemeat by it a chance to heal and revive everyone else.

He also has a multi-target Critical attack, which hits a VERY narrow area directly in front of him. Honestly, don't even bother using Crit Guard. On the off-chance you were close enough to die from this, you probably weren't going to last the next few seconds anyway.

The other thing to be wary of is, he will summon backup. In the form of BombCrags. Giant Bomb Crags. And they WILL self-destruct, and they WILL kill anyone nearby. Don't even try to defeat them - run away from them until they blow up on their own. Focus all of your damage-dealing capabilities on damaging Nokturnus, because that 20 minute timer is ticking away the entire time.

He also has some breath attacks. I think. He uses these so infrequently that breath guard equipment isn't entirely necessary unless maybe you're a Priest and plan on standing right next to him for long periods of time.

Honestly, the latter half of the fight is spent running around to revive people who died from Gigathrow or Grand Cross. Falcon Slash will get you pretty often, too, but the saving grace of this one is that it's single-target. Hell, you'll probably reach the point where you see him using Falcon Slash on some poor guy and think "Thank god he didn't just Grand Cross nuke that entire area".

That said, Grand Cross is a cool as hell attack with a really awesome animation. IT'S A CROSS-SHAPED SLASH MADE OF GALAXIES, how cool is that?

ETcywpo.jpg

Photo of our victory party rather than the moment we defeated the boss. The reason for this being that there were some Bomb Crags left alive after we killed Nokturnus himself, and the game does not just hand you the victory at this point like some other bosses have done in the past.

Now, the reason I stress the 20 minute timer being the single most punishing part of the fight:

While we did win - and on our first try in fact, hooray! - we actually won with 15 seconds left on the clock. Yup, fifteen whole seconds. I cannot imagine what would've happened to everyone's motivation if we had taken even 15 seconds longer to win that fight. We probably would not have gone a second time tonight, and even if we did, there's no guarantee that we'd have won after being mentally exhausted by the first fight.

All in all, the fight was downright fantastic. I had a lot of fun with this boss, even though I spent half the fight as a corpse on the ground. I would love to - and probably will - go again sometime in the near future, but I'm definitely not turning it into part of my daily routine. No way in hell. We were lucky enough to beat him the way we did, because running this boss multiple times WILL burn through a lot of Leaves and MP recovery items. Sage Waters are EXPENSIVE, which is the main reason I tried to use Holy Waters whenever possible. In hindsight that was a dumb decision, and I should definitely stock up on Sage Waters when I next plan on running this boss.

Bonus image to sum up how things were on my end for most of the latter half of the fight:

aaozWS1.jpg

Yup. Knocked me down then sniped the Priest who ran up to revive me - plus the two Mages who were directly behind her. That attack animation is cool as hell. Shame the attack itself single-handedly turns him into the most terrifying sniper in the game.
