Pollished off the "Enduro" race in Sleepy Dogs, meaning every major hurdle is out of my way in terms of side quests. The Thousand Cuts thing was the literal worst too. This doesn't include all the good awards I need to earn, which will be a major challenge, and I'm still missing a few health shrines and three lock boxes (all from North Point), that I just can't seem to locate on the mini map. The DLC doesn't help things much either. They also have some stuff you gotta look for but don't give you any indicator on the mini map for assistance.

With the first two now coming to PS4, plus the recently released CS3, and now the fourth game being announced for PS4, maybe I really should get around to playing CS1 on Vita.

I saw this news earlier. Part of me is curious to check the games out on PS4, but at the same time I wasn't drawn into Trails in the Sky.

I wish the PSP Legend of Heroes games got a nice HD upgrade for PS4. Not necessarily because they're better than any of the Trails games (I highly doubt they are, even though I've not played a Trails title), but because they're what came before, and I'd love to see people exposed to them. If you're curious, those titles are:

The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermilion

The Legend of Heroes: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch

The Legend of Heroes: Song of the Ocean.

Interesting.  I love that I was exposed to TiTS!

I have CS Vita sitting brand new wrapped up on my dresser.  One day... One day...

I'm about to start the final dungeon in FFIX. I realized I still had a few side quests/things I needed to finish off. All my extra exploring did help me find a new area in Ipsen's Castle I didn't know about, and now everyone has all of their abilities (both support and attack) learned. Now all I need to do is go back to Mognet Central with the Superslick item, then it's off to Memoria. I have tomorrow off, so I'm hoping to wrap up this playthrough tomorrow.

In Etrian Odyssey V, I'm up to the 18th floor. My party still has good damage and healing output (glad I don't need the dedicated healing class for the latter), but enemies are starting to get tricky to deal with. I may have to rest some party members and reallocate skill points, mainly for my Pugilist so he can get guaranteed binds. Last thing I did in game was meet up with the mysterious girl roaming the 4th Stratum who seems to know about the myths of the Labyrinth the 4 races of Arcania have, and gave a warning about the Crystal Dragon up ahead.

Yeah, they're not linked to the Trails series, but they were fun.

They'd need some work though, since they originally came out on the NEC PC-8801 and 9801 and it shows on PSP.

Plus they could use a better localization then Bamco did for the PSP versions.

Also, fun fact, Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch is the first game in the Gagharv trilogy, followed by Vermillion then Ocean.

But due to some funny numbering business due to weird release schedules, Vermillion appears as the first game in the trilogy for the west.

Also, hopefully XSEED gets CSIII out for next year, and I hope they do the PS4 versions of I and II, with presumably the PC translation and other extras, as it adds around 50% voice acting, and fast forward mode.

Alright, finished up my playthrough of Final Fantasy IX on my Vita! The final bosses were no problem thanks to Thievery, Shock, Dragon's Crest, and Frog Drop.

I really enjoyed playing through FFIX again. While Final Fantasy IV is my #1 favorite from the series, FFIX is right behind it. I love the playable, the story, the soundtrack, the ability system, the world...

Like Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door just a short while ago, finishing this replay of Final Fantasy IX reminded me of how much I enjoyed the game the first time through it, and why I wanted to play it in the first place. It's definitely one of my favorite RPGs.

With FFIX done, now I can focus on Etrian 5. The 4th Stratum has been rough, but a little skill point re-allocation should help.

Finished South Park Fractured But Whole tonight.  What a ride!  The criminal mastermind is defeated, the town is saved, and nobody in town gives a crap. It IS South Park after all.  :D

While Fractured was a good game, Stick of Truth was still a bit better, in my opinion.

I have every collectible in the main Sleepy Dogs game. The thing that sucks is that you can't use the map to show everything in the Year of the Snake DLC, like I recently found out you could in the regular game. For some reason it never occurred to me that the "collectibles" button on the map would show every collectible, whether you have it or not.

So what's left for completion? Getting every Gold award, which will require playing certain missions and making sure I do certain things a ton of times but it's not impossible to just take a day, sit down, and blow through every one left one at a time. Aside from that, I've got to finish the handful of jobs I have left to do. I also have the stuff to do in the DLC, which makes up the bulk of the work I'll need to put in.

This game does Trophies right. Almost all of them are completion based, meaning very few ask you to do crazy hard stuff that requires a ton of trial and error to make an outcome happen or get an insanely high score. I think the worst one was "drive for 2 minutes without hitting anything" or something along those lines. Everyone else is like "kill someone with a fish," which is easy to do if you know where to find fish, and you smack a civilian with it. Every trophy I have left is basically "collect all this stuff," so I'm gonna go for the platinum trophy.

I'm up to the 24th floor in Etrian Odyssey V. The 5th Stratum has been fun to explore thanks to the challenge the floor layouts and enemy encounters. My party is pretty much pure offense, so I can at least finish off most encounters on the 2nd or 3rd turn, depending on if I need to focus on a particular enemy first. And at least with all the passive healing two to of my members can do, I can keep most of my HP up.

This is making for a great finale to the game, and that's without mentioning the eerily beautiful environment and that absolutely fantastic music. I know I praise Koshiro a lot, but he really did an amazing job with this game's 5th Stratum theme. It really signifies the end of the long journey to climb Yggdrasil, and hints at one last mystery, growing into something grand in scale to encourage you to keep fighting till the end!

Here, listen to it for yourself and see, or rather hear, what I mean:

I just need to find the last two events. I have no clue where they are, they're nowhere on the map. Literally over 95% completion right now.

I did it. I beat the final boss in Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth! It was a fun final boss, but was one I had to restart a few times due to some of the stuff it can pull off. Once I figured it out and kept up the offense, I managed to defeat the boss just before it could pull off it's signature attack that wiped my party on a few other attempts.

Honestly, I'm mixed on this final boss. On the one hand it was a fun battle and a really cool design, but on the other hand there was very little build up. One thing the series does well is build up the final boss encounter that reveals why the final boss is the way they are, or what they have been doing behind the scenes, or just being misguided in their actions. V's final boss? Big old evil thing, go kill it before it kills you!

Honestly, not a fan of that. If the Mysterious Girl had kept popping up within the 5th Stratum to reveal more and more info about the final boss and why it's important, as well as what exactly the 5th Stratum is what it is, it would have at least matched what Etrian 2 did with the Overlord and the way Yggdrasil became. Having her show up to discuss why it's important on the last two floors makes it feel like an afterthought. If the game had hinted at something sinister through the later stratums via rumors or something, I think I would be singing a different tune.

My theory on the final boss was that it was going to be a lone man who had somehow survived within the 5th Stratum, or perhaps was the last member of a long lost 5th race. The long years alone began to drive him mad, and he discovered a way to harness Yggdrasil's power to spread the myths to the lands below. At first it was to bring others to him so he could be freed from his loneliness, but all those years of isolation and his extended lifespan due to Yggdrasil's power would have warped him. Maybe because he was the last of his kind he wanted to do the same to the other races. He would try to reveal to the party why he was in the 5th Stratum in the first place, but the Mysterious Girl would cause him to back off, both sides revealing info about the lore from their view points. (That's as far as I've gotten. I'll admit to adding in the last sentence after seeing the Mysterious Girl first pop up in the 4th Stratum.)

Perhaps more will be revealed in the post game. The artwork that was playing in the background just before the credits started makes me think the post game will reveal more about the boss, or at the least why the Mysterious Girl was rather hush hush about it and just what exactly she is.

My rambling aside, Etrian Odyssey V was a lot of fun, and was worth the long wait. It was great just exploring, messing with the classes, learning more about the different races and their homes/lores, and raging over that one FOE that snuck up on you and you realize too late you forgot an Ariadne Thread to GTFO.

After somehow pouring 80 hours into my first file alone, I think it's safe to say I really enjoyed my time with Etrian 5. Best part is, there's still the post game content! Not to mention replaying the game with a new party via the Denizens guild, testing out more of the Legendary Titles for classes, trying to 100% my first file...

I think my Twinsie talked too much about a 3rd Stratum curse of not progressing in EO. Finally got a little over that last night. I'd been on PSN looking at game sales and actually found 2 this week for Vita, despite the sale being small (next week it's bigger for Black Friday). Picked up Citizens of Earth & Dungeon Travelers 2. Played the DT2 demo last night and had to chuckle at the text/dialog enough that I had to get it.

So, decided starting a 2nd game is my reward for playing EOV. Spent about an hour doing quests and completing one entire floor map in EOV. I'll make myself do that until I get the motivation back there, but I get to switch over to Dungeon Travelers 2 when I complete an EOV level. Mapped and tackled floor 14 and with DT2 I got into the 3rd Dungeon, and quite far only to get killed deep inside. Ugh. With a lot of Customization ahead, and a 2 more party members to find, it's way early and quite difficult.

See? The 3rd Stratum Curse is all too real. I think it skipped me this time and instead smacked you and Zahan over the head.

1 more floor and maybe it'll be over. Didn't help that I had to pause for that damn 3,000-word essay, but even since Sunday I've done nothing until last night.

The 6th Stratum is proving to be a real pain. Of everything I chose to spoil about Etrian 5, one was what the 6th Stratum was. Turns out it wasn't the "spoiler," I read about last year when the game came out in Japan. It turns out the 6th Stratum is:

A vortex dimension way out in space that connects the planets. The area is all in ruins, looking like a civilization had once existed here before being completely destroyed and left in shambles, with planets in the background breaking apart while an eerie swirl of star dust crops through the "air."

It's called the Empyreal Bridge, a place that the Mysterious Girl named Arken must use to reach a new land and for your guild to witness as a reward for escorting her.

It's a much more interesting place than the "spoiler," I had read about. And it continues the story from the main game, so it's been worth checking out and has addressed a few of the things I brought up in my final boss post. I'll be curious what the post game boss is considering the environment...not to mention how one of the songs on the soundtrack has to deal with the post game. Seriously, for over a year I've been wondering why a past song from the series was included, and several ideas have popped into my head why it's in Etrian 5! I gotta know, man!

That being said, the 6th Stratum is, like I said, proving to be a real pain. To give everyone an idea of the enemies here, you have:

-An enemy that will instant kill you if you do ANY damage to it and don't kill it in the same turn.

-A line piercing enemy who can take off 2/3rds of your health.

-An enemy who will absorb any healing/reviving you try and do on a dead ally AND can attack all characters with a good chance to bind your arms.

-An enemy who can smack everyone with sleep which can double the damage you take.

-An enemy who can pass any damage off to others who LOVES showing up with the instant kill enemy, or will cause Panic on several of your characters.

And those are all the REGULAR enemies from random encounters so far. God only knows what awaits on the 29th and 30th floors. This is why skill point allocation is super important to either kill things as quick as possible, stop enemies from using skills, or just trying to keep yourself alive.

Oh, and the 6th Stratum is one big (semi) warp maze. It's nowhere near as bad as past ones from the series, but you gotta pay attention and make notes on your map.

Let me tell you, this has been so much fun playing through on the Advanced difficulty.

Tonight will be my last night of strictly playing Fallout 4.

Per amazon, my copy of Pokemon UM will arrive by 8pm. I really, really hope I get it much sooner though.

Other than that, here are my goals in terms of gaming for the next few months:

The rest of November & December- Focus on Pokemon UM, and play Fallout 4 when I need a break.

January - Beat Pokemon UM in the early days and Begin full focus on finishing Fallout 4.

February - Beat Fallout 4, and finish whatever other nonsense I want to do in the game, for the time being.

March and April - Buy Dragon Quest Heroes 2, and play the Hell out of it,

May - DQ XI better have a damn US release date.

...I never stick to my plans 100%, but these days I actually like to complete games I own as much as possible. We will see how all of this works out.

Amazon always says you'll get it by 8. Heck, I've got an order coming in tomorrow that will likely come at 1:30, but Amazon lists it as arriving "before 8:00 PM."

Well, I just got to the heavensward content in FF14, and holy crap the story seems to have stepped up it's game all of a sudden. Like, the base game is good, but it wasn't anything too special. It is a fairly typical MMO/final fantasy story about the journey of a random adventurer becoming the hero of the realm (crystals and warriors of light and all). The update content was alright, but got kind of tiring after a while. But then you realize that they have been setting up a bunch of stuff that leads to a very satisfying conclusion. Those final cutscenes man. Really got me in the mood to continue the story. Like seriously, that kind of came out of nowhere for me how interesting that turned out to be.

Yeah, Heavensward really stepped it up even though ARR was nice.

Stormblood even more so I found.

Been trying to pull Lute in Fire Emblem Heroes, but with a new Legendary Heroes banner coming up (with a chance for me to get Bride Cordelia), I gotta stop spending orbs on Lute's banner.

Yeah, I was just hoping for a really early delivery so I could get the most playtime out of my day.

...And my wish came true. I woke up at like 830 to my doorbell, and the game was on my doorstep.

Working around some necessary errands, I got about 5 hours logged so far today. I'll probably get another 2 or 3 hours depending on how the rest of the evening goes.

I can't remember the last time I got to log this much time into a game in one day. It's been fantastic. The game is great too. I'm glad I didn't play the Original Sun and Moon...that way this game is a whole new thing for me.

My Dungeon Travelers 2 game is cracking me up! That item destination!

Knocked out the 4th Dungeon there tonight. Was a near thing too. Damn Vita died in the middle of the battle. Plugged it in and switched to Etrian Odyssey V and easily took down the 15th floor boss. My one gal abused her Cannon shot and Sally 4th had a triple attack where each one got subsequently stronger. Whew! I'd not assigned skill points in like 20 levels. Plenty to use before that battle and be ready! 0a3fa506f9f091744266531842d24d16.jpg442510ed02e8e1c1f4151770afb2bc3d.jpg

The bottom pic was me in a class getting taught classes or skill points or something. That came out of nowhere. Great writing!
