DO YA LIEK RUMORS? (or, DQ7 remake possibly incoming?)

Recommended Posts

i would definitely like to see DQVII on a handheld as ive never played 7 or 8. this would make me one step closer to beating all the main series of DQ 9 (with the exception of 5, hard to find.)

To expand. I hope it's not remade, but I think it should re-released as it was on PSX for other systems (PS One Classics for PS3, The XBox/Wii equivalents, etc). One of its charms to me is that it is a real old school style of DQ game.

Since it would be on 3DS, and a massive game, I doubt it would be much more than a port. Don't think there's much to worry about there.

And if it is more than a port and a complete remake... well, we'll find out in 2023 when it comes out!

I don't know, the DS version of DQ4 is basically the PS1 version with some polished graphics, and Resident Evil 1 fit on a DS cartridge. I know DQ7 was 2 discs, but some of that data was data from the 1st disc. I think it could be ported with polished graphics to the DS, but 3DS does sound more plausible at this point.

I also don't see why DQ7 won't get released on PSN store. It took them almost 6 years to put FF5 on there. They gotta make up some money after FF 14 :D .

I would love to have the original translation on the PSN Store (for my PSP, not PS3 exclusive).

But I think they would rather sell the remake. Which I would love.

Except for the imminent awful translation with unnecessary changes (and I already know the proposed names for two of the characters in English, Spanish and French, and I am not amused).

the only reason the rumor lost credibility with me is that it says DQVII or FFVII. Let's see...

Wii gets : DQI,II,III, DQX and Fortune Street (minus the FF characters oddly enough)

DS gets: DQIV,DQV,DQVI,DQX, FFIII and FFIV

PS3 gets: FFXIII,+2 and XIV (well promised) FFX and FFVII tech demo (HEY ITS SOMETHING!!!)

PSP gets: FFIV Complete, FF and FFII anniversary

I think SE has said FF=Sony and DQ= Nintendo, the only DQ game that is not readily available on a Nintendo platform is DQVII

How about DQVIII, that was a ps2 game.

hahahaha i can't believe i overlooked my favorite one! I'm sure that one will get a remake on a nintendo platform, but they will want to remake the 12 year old game before the 7 year old game

I would say more than credibility it lost respect. If the seventh one will come for the 3DS, it will be Dragon Quest, for sure.

Besides, I think they will want FF VII to have the best graphics possible.

DQVII on the 3DS is the system that would make the most sense. The first 3D main series game should be the first stereoscopic 3D game. The 3D puzzles should be better on it as well. I do have to agree with the people at Neogaf that I hope DQVII won't be a lazy remake like VI. Its sad that my favorite game in the series got such bad treatment.

But what should a remake have? Street Pass capabilities for the immigrant town seem certain. More bonus content after the game ends though could be overkill. You can't add anymore party chat really. The thing I would like the most though would be a wagon!

The list of changes between the SFC version and the DS version demonstrate that very little was added and several things were removed or made easier.

Among many other things:

They added the Suite Dreams place for tagging and they also added Party Chat (which was awesome admittedly).

They removed monster recruiting and added the Slime recruitment thing (which was fine really, but still disappointing for some).

They added Slippin' Slime mini-game which was awesome but a reasonably minor addition.

Reaper's Peak has three final forms instead of one

Comparing this to some of the other first remakes:

1) DQ1+2 SFC --> graphical update and retooling of game data

2) DQ3 SFC --> Added bonus dungeon, personality system, new classes and huge graphical improvement

3) DQ4 PSX --> Big graphical update and change to pseudo-3D style. Added Pioneer town, bonus dungeon and a 6th chapter with an alternate ending and new quests and bosses

4) DQ5 PS2 --> Huge graphical improvement, new monsters to recruit, (new bride in the DS version), four party members instead of just 3, etc...

Then you get to DQ6 to find minimal graphical improvement, a tag mode feature that most North American's don't utilize, a reduced menagerie of monsters to recruit, a wicked-ass mini-game and three final forms to the bonus dungeon town instead of just one (although you can only see one on any single save slot).

Comparitively, this seemed like more of a port than a full-on remake. I guess it's comparable to the remakes of DQ1+2 for the SFC, except that those arguably exhibited a more significant improvement in graphics.

Here is a mostly complete list of changes between the SFC and DS versions according to ignasia7's FAQ (sorry about the formatting, the spacing isn't preserved here):

o-----------------------------------------------------------o

Dragon Quest VI DS changes from SFC version

o-----------------------------------------------------------o

1.EXP increased by 20-25% on some mobs.

2.Some mobs, particularly early mobs have reduced HP of

20-30%.

3.Monster recruiting removed, Monster Master job now only

useful as a prerequisite for Ranger, and thus Hero.

4.Instead of in-battle recruiting there are side-story

recruited Slimes.

5.Amos sprite is no longer shared with NPCs.

6.Overworld has been reduced in size by 20%.

7.Most towns have a different layout, several dungeons are

shifted as well.

8.The Thief's Key merchant moves next to Bazaar and no

longer carries the Thief's Key.

9.Start with world map.

10.World map merchant now sells Thief's Key, keeps SFC

skill names.

Alltrade Abbey's from either world:

Other world Abbey warp is found at the bottom of

15.Stat growth is random. However shifts are relatively

minor with little divergence from SFC stats. Range is

+/-1-5, with 4-5 being exceedingly rare.

16.Remember/Forget spells removed.

17.Slots in casino changed, 1-Token looks like the

original but without the old man or woman. 10 and 100

slots are like the DQIV and V slots. Also added 100C

slot to Port Haven.

18.Item management was changed to the DQVI and V system,

so you can buy in sets of 9, and you can continually

take items for or put items in the bag rather than

having to reload the item menu over and over again.

19.You can rename the Bag.

20.When buying an item, or moving an item to a character

with a full inventory, the game will no longer force

choosing another character to place the item, and give

the option to move all nonequipped items to the bag.

to Woosh, Aslynn to Frizz/Sizz/Bang/Crack, and the Hero

Mmm, now that Mimas mentioned the wagon...

I know VII is already near perfect the way it, save for one or two (or 100) typos, but what about a new playable character to go along the wagon?

Who could it be, though? Foz? She could save a few trips to Dharma... The robot who cared for its dead creator? Kind of like Robo from Chrono... A dwarf from Coastal? None seemed too important in the original game... Sharkeye? Awesome, I think, even if redundant... Johann? Having an artist would be nice, and his party talk would be crazy... Mini-elemental spirits? Those would be fun to train, and each could have personalities mirroring those of the real spirits...

I do hope they do not remove any of the jobs. They can add more if they want, though.

And I hope the summons are visible. We could see the Genma in Caravan Heart and there are (small) illustrations of the lesser summons in the old DQ VI guidebook, but it would be nice to finally see them in proper action inside a video game.

If anything i wouldn't mind too much if they lowered the amount of battles needed to master a class.

Strangely I hadn't thought about new characters, but that could be interesting. My vote goes for Chibi the worm.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. I wouldn't complain if they made it easier to get hybrid skills as well.

I want only one thing from a VII's remake.... LET ME PLAY WITH KIEFER AGAIN!!!

Having Kiefer in the party for the bonus content would be awesome!

What was lazy about the DQVI remake?

Sorry, I forgot to reply to this. Though King Zenith covered most of it. The thing is while I glad to have party chat I was a little disappointed with it in that I didn't feel as though it was as extensively used as the other games.

Comparing this to some of the other first remakes:

1) DQ1+2 SFC --> graphical update and retooling of game data

I guess it's comparable to the remakes of DQ1+2 for the SFC, except that those arguably exhibited a more significant improvement in graphics.

Well, what you need to remember is that DW1 and DW2 were already remakes of DQ1 and DQ2 so some of the imporvments aren't as obvious to NA gamers. For example, there was no save feature to DQ1 and DQ2. You had to use passwords to restart your game. In DQI you had to specify which direction you were talking to because the player character themselves would always be forward facing. So for the Japanese who hadn't played DW the improvements in the SFC version were much more outstanding. The SFC version also added a extra story element to DQ2.

Whether this is gonna be DQ VII or FF VII, I feel there's a question that should be addressed

Would it work better on 3DS or PS3/Vita?

PS system: Pros

More powerful processors and memory

Game platform which the audience is most familiar with.

New system on the horizon, could work in tandem to sell the system

Cons:

Less portable=Less time spent playing. Game is a bit long

More powerful engine requires higher development costs

Original is on PSN, remake not entirely necessary (FF VII only)

3DS:

Pros

Portable system, can be played more often

Wireless could allow for multiplayer features/minigames

Expands availability of the game to a larger audience

Cons

Less powerful system, may cause glitches or limit features

May incite criticism if Nintendo's policies require censorship

Your thoughts?
