Terry’s Wonderland 3D

Recommended Posts

With all these new monsters and new skills, I can certainly see completing the books being a pain. At least I'm single so I don't have to be harassed by a girlfriend about neglecting her. Hahaha.

But seriously, all those monsters look great and I can't wait to pick and choose from my favs and dominate.

With infinite keys theoretically, you would think they would have more slots than that.

Infinite keys... but so many of them aren't worth holding on to. Basically you only need keys that get you breeding components from each family and a Lord key (well... realistically you can get most of the breeding components you need from storyline worlds and anything more important you can just pick up by stealing monsters from enemy masters!).

Have they confirmed randomized dungeons? Those dungeons had multiple Z levels (climbing ladders) which is... tricky to do with randomization, which makes me quite worried. The roguelike aspects of DQM1 / 2 / 3 / DQ9 were the best part.

I wonder if it will be like the old ones? In the old game, I kept logs on graph paper of my keys with notes as to unclaimed treasures (such as dream eggs and more keys) and what monsters the keys had which were good. I used graph paper to make charts of the dungeons.

It was also fun to keep examples of the different key themes. the graveyard world theme was particularly cool.

I've been wondering though. Just how are they utilizing the 3D component of the system? The trailers never say anything about that(to my knowledge). And I never heard anything about XY monsters either.

I hope they don't add XY monsters. It leads to the same unfair stats of Joker 2. Unless they do it like Pro and give everyone a XY form.

I just found a story on monster cameo appearances that will be in this game. It will have Adult Terry from DQ6 paired with a Dhuran, plus a few other cameos.

The info is on the update that is dated 04/16/2012

Are you talking about battles or new scenarios. Wasn't adult Terry with Duran in the original or something that alluded to it?

Also, as a friendly suggestion, you really need to tread carefully when posting fan art. Credit the artist and/or the source, otherwise they get maaaaaaad.

I don't know anything about that game yet, I was just posting a link to this news story that I just found on another DQ site.

And what are you talking about posting DQ artwork? I haven't posted any DQ fan art anywhere. I thought you were the one who has the DQ artwork on your site.

He meant the Dragon Warrior II fan art post in that site. I think he assumed the site was yours.

No it is not mine, I was just linking to the news story about the cameos for this game.

Those cameos are quite something. But how can adult Terry and Kid Terry exist together?

If I remember correctly, in the original, the future Adult Terry visited his younger self to warn Kid Terry not to make the same mistakes, and become power-hungry.

You ran into the future Terry quite a few times in the original DQM. I don't want to spoil anything for those who might be new to this game and its original, but a lot of the final floors of the gates / teleportals are reenactments of events from the main series games. I think the battles against the green dragon and golem have been mentioned here, and those both are taken from scenes from the first Dragon Quest, with the green dragon being the one helping keep the princess held captive while the golem is 'protecting' an enclosed town. I think that was one of the big charms of the original DQM: it referenced all of the then released titles at the time, and it was cool reliving those battles with a team of monsters.

I had never played those games myself when I first had DWM. I just thought they were frickin' cool battles, anyway. I was disappointed that I could never enter the village...I remember thinking that it might have been Terry's home village for some reason. And then there was the princess-that one made me sad that I could never lift her. I wanted to return the princess to her 'mother and father', 'cuz I believed her to be the daughter of the Great Tree royal family. XD MadCat's gate was my absolute favorite, though. The one that terrified me the most was Servant's. I hated to see the village burning.

seeing a burned-later be saved village is still better, compared to DWIII's tedanki village which combines an eerie song and had the whole village massacred with some corpses left behind, now thats what i call terrifying :P

Yeah, that was a really poignant moment. You go to a village only to find that it's a burnedout ruin.... that really drives home the point of what will happen to the world if the villains win.

I loved how the overworld music from the older games was heard while their respective scenarios were replayed (or even new ones, like the funky bird in the casino, which is only loosely based in other games, since that monster was a new one).

I think it was the gate of reflection where Terry finally faces the masked guy. Supposedly, in that gate, you would face an important trial, or something about yourself, or something like that. So "Terry?" could be anything like real Terry (if kid Terry gets to travel to the real scenarios of each game), a replica created by the gates, or a stranger who coincidentally shares oh-so-many-things with Terry. I go for kid visiting the world and time from each DQ game. If not possible, then I choose replicas created by the gates. Anyway, Terry still has to face the decision of losing himself in his quest for power or not.

Well everyone in Great Tree said what you find in that gate is a reflection of yourself.

I seem to recall it being not just that, but a reflection of your future. The King of GreatTree asked Terry to go to find out if he would do well in the Starry Night Tournament.

Sorry to get nitpicky here, but I think you mean the fangslime / wild slime in the casino :P I think the funky bird was grooving on a stage similar to the one from DQIV.

And yeah, the Gate of Reflection was a big deal. I recall the two monster masters that'd normally inform you of the monsters behind the gates being too traumatized by Reflection to tell you what was in it :P

Locations look pre-made, but which floor you get is still random.

EEEH. I don't like that particular version, but it's better than static dungeons. What I saw in some screenshots (need to look again) was what looked like a 3d version of the "room" system from DQM1 -- namely, rooms with exits like the Dark World from DQMJ2.
