Dragon Quest New game announcement (Sept.5, 2011)

Recommended Posts

I think people need to 'Chill' the hell down for a minute about the online fee. There is a chance it could just be 'Japan Only' and it comes over here with it being free, you know, like what happened with Monster Hunter 3.

Plus there is still so much we don't know about this game. The way fans have jumped to conclusions of the game reminds me of Zelda fans. Horii creates the Dragon Quest games the way he likes to, he did it with the first game, and has been ever since, I have loved every one of his games to date, I can not see how this game will be an instant fail.

you want a valid reason why i dont love the direction dqx is taking? i give you plenty.

1. i love to play my draque, myself i dont want some $#!&ing AI help, i want to control my party and feel i beat the game. i am control freak

Did they even tell us? Maybe you can switch to controling party members? But THIS actually seems like sort of a valid complaint, yes.

2. i want all the time i need to look at the damm funny monsters.

1. You can walk around but it still manages to be somewhat turn-based. 2. How do you know they won't change it.

3. i love that i dont know how much HP the boss have left than and thiking "hoo" he gonna kick my ass than all the sudden see him dead i dont want dq10 to tell my the enemy will die soon.

It just gives you a small idea of how much health they have. THIS, not so much a valid complaint, just don't look at the monster's name if you don't wanna know.

4 I dont want to play DRAQUE with my freinds, that what street fighter IV/ billiard tables are for.

So then...don't?

5. i dont have started about how the main story will suffer because of this $#!&.

I uh...this makes no sense...please use your grammar a little better.

ah sorry about the grammar thing. my mother language is hebrew which is vastly different from english. anyway i mean to say that by being online, dq10 story will have bad story, i just know it.

draque 9 was still very much like the old games for me (because i skip multiplayer and quests and past content) the game still was charming for me. i love the stories in it. i love the backstory of the hero. the only thing that i dislike about draque 9 is the generic party and no party chat.

in dq10 they take all the things that i dislike about 9 and make them the focus of the game.

i dont know why you think i not allowed to have my opinion i

don't want draque to take this direction and i going to vote with my money. and hope most of the japanse fanbase wil do the same.

Well I guess I won't be playing this one. What a shame it's going to be an MMO with monthly fees. If online access was free like in Guild Wars I would play it, but I refuse to pay a monthly fee for a game I have already purchased. Not only that, but I don't have time to invest in an online game.

EDIT: I'm with the people that agree that an online game is fine, just not one of the main series games. Make it a spin off game and leave the main series alone. They'll milk the cow make just as much money if it were a spin off.

They haven't decided if it'll have monthly fees. If so it will msot likely only be in Japan. They're already very unpopular in the west, pay to play would just scare more people off and they know it.

Well according to this there will be online fees, and the information from from a SE FAQ. I can't read it myself but I don't see why they would lie about it.

Can't play as a celestrian but I can be a godamn yellow short monster who looks like that guy from Blue Dragon? Fine then. Hmpf.Everyone seems to be hating it for being a online game ( inncluding me,if they make it a MMO ) but when DQIX was announced it was a adventure RPG.I'm not sayin' that I hate it,just that it looks strange it's a wi-fi RPG

Y'know, I really shouldn't be surprised at how people can declare their undying hatred for a video game that hasn't had many details released, let alone one they haven't played, but for some reason I am. Granted, Dragon Quest IX wasn't my favorite in the series, but we could at least give the Dragon Quest Powers That Be the benefit of the doubt that they've learned some lessons from it.

Actually the funny thing is it reminds me of when I played the FFXII demo that came with DQVIII and I remember going "wtf are they doing with my final fantasies, welp at least dqviii is a glorious game"

Now the egg is all over my face, so I'm just gonna preemptively judge this as being a terrible idea. Friends don't let friends internally develop games in S/E

Cause that's always a good idea.

I'm not trying to change anyones opinions but c'mon already! Everyone act like you got some damn sense people! Has DQ let us down before? No. So shut up and wait and see. Hating on what you've seen 12 minutes of is a juvenile, downright stupid reaction. I don't care if you hate the game, but for the love of jesus, wait until you have somthing to hate! You're going off of footage of 2 battles, one opening and 2 minutes of walking the overworld. Calm the hell down for now!

These can be fees for Japan only. I am quite sure that all the official info that has been released so far is for the japanese public.

No the game looks great to be honest, the fact that you have to play online with a subscription fee is the lame part

Exactly, that's the only reason I'm the slightest bit miffed about Dragon Quest X. Having an online Dragon Quest would be a wonderful concept if I didn't need to pay for a subscription on top of paying for the game at full retail.

Actually, I felt that DQ IX was somewhat of a letdown after the wonderful DQ VIII. It seemed to me that many of the DQ staples that I had always loved from the previous installments were dropped in favor of putting more online related things in. I'm talking about stuff like Monster Recruiting and casinos. Not to mention how they dumbed down the minimedal quest by making it so you can collect them infinitely and spend them at a store. The weekly quests got very tedious after a while as well.

I have to say I am disappointed at the way DQ X is heading so far. It sounds like the staples I mentioned won't be making a comeback in this installment. Also, I don't see the Wii version leaving Japan at all. We all know how long it takes to localize these games, and by the time its translated the Wii should be all but finished. I expect we'll only see the Wii-U version.

At the moment, I don't even think the game looks good. I'm looking at these characters and thinking this thing reeks of FFXI with a re-skin. Right now, until I see more of it, that's all I can see. I see little that says DQ mainline series in the footage shown.

Dragon Quest Swords looked more DQ than this.

I've loved DW/DQ for my whole life frome the day I got the first one, but I'm not blinded by that love. I've never had a moment where I disliked what I saw simply from seeing it when it came to DQ....but this, this I dislike. This is not a mainline DQ game. To be perfectly honest, if I saw the footage and they didn't have a golem in there, I probably would have had no idea it was a DQ game. Even the trailer, without the golem and the opening fanfare theme, I would not have guessed it was a DQ game.

Something is going severely wrong lately. Joker 2 was junk, DQ9 was bleh, and now 10 is looking like it's following right along.

Maybe I'd be better off just not hearing/reading anything more about DQX until it is near release, because I don't want to form a hatred for it before it lands...but as it stands, I'm not excited like I usually am about a new DQ.

BTW, I hope that, at a minimum, this is true:

http://www.geek.com/articles/games/dragon-quest-x-will-also-be-released-for-the-nes-2011096/

I could deal with this.

Well, fees are confirmed. Question is how much and will it be like Monster Hunter Tri and be free in the US. Does also mention how you need to be online in the first few hours. Maybe it's like connecting to a shop or downloading quests so you can play offline.

Also says sadly no NES version :unhappy: though that was not surprising.

My other problem with a mainline game being online required is that in 5-10 years, when it's no longer supported, I can't play it again to relive the joy [should it give me any] of playing through it. This will be especially heartbreaking should the plot be on par with DQ8 by some stroke of luck.

one thing that i would love in draque 10 (but i still hate it mind you) is to see everyone goes to super high tension. it kinda like to became a super saiyan. every time i do it in draque 8/9 i got flashback of goku turn into ssj1 for the first time.

hoo i love dragon ball (and quest)

but no! not this time around.

I'm all for a DQ MMORPG, preferably something in an Ultima Online / Asheron's Call vibe, but not a mainline game.

But this isn't an MMORPG. It's DQ9 with the Local Wireless extended to NWFC.

As has been previously stated, this whole "I'M A TRUE FAN YOU'RE NOT BLAH BLAH BLAH" nonsense needs to stop. You don't have to like every game in a series to be a fan of it. For example I already pretty much despise VII(even if I feel it has the best story, the game itself fills me with hate). I don't have to like this just because it has Dragon Quest slapped on it and Yuji Hori wanted to do an MMO.

Required online with a subscription fee. This is in no way a plus for a lot of people.

These are great, it's everything else though that's killing my enthusiasm for the game.

i posted this in a different thread and then noticed this one.

i've been trying to come around to the idea but the more i think about it and the more i read the more upset i get :(

if it was a spin off game, i would be very excited but as a main entry and one that was originally announced so long ago, i am very upset. this just seems like a Square Enix idea based on greed because of the success of money spinners like WOW. in fact didn't Yuji Hori say that he wouldn't make a MMORPG because he doesn't like the idea of people being addicted to them for ever and that 40 hours was the perfect length of a RPG? i wouldn't be upset at all if the online feature was a bonus and i could play through the game on my own with a party i could control. but no i have to play online with a team of strangers because i don't know anyone apart from my gf who plays DQ. it's not like Japan where you'd have loads of DQ friends who could play with you and have a good laugh together

i am truly sad

PS i am also sad Level 5 aren't involved

but the complete silent over the years+ horii promise that dqx going to be like 8 make me really sure i wil get regular draque game.

ps. who is the man in your avatar? you happend to know? he look like don draper in the next 25 years or something like that. hehe

This is definitely one of my problems with it. They hype it up and say it's going to be more like VIII and then give us.... this. It didn't work with Final Fantasy and I'm not seeing it working here.

It's Steve Carell from The Office. That show is like a gold mine of hilarious facial expressions.
