Launch of an investigation for a potential organization of a Dragon Quest International Fan Fest which would be launched if soon in 2021 on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the saga. Your opinion matters a lot. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12cVIwARKE4JRGd7RFw4ouPEJirqpvuM9JmJET4iA628/ Investigate international in order to be able to have a general opinion of all the West. We will come back to a report in a few days.
Merry Christmas and an advanced Happy New Year to all! I've been wondering about how involved Toriyama-san is in this series. Is it restricted to business "just design a mean looking villain for us. Done. You can go home now"? Or does he also get to suggest things as to how they might make the game look and/or play better or at least have an influence on Horii-San when it comes to creating each title's world? I just found out that DQ VIII Hero's max tension Saiyan look was simply an homage to Dragon Ball and it actually wasn't in the Japanese version. I liked it a lot. I also liked how it also appears again in DQ Heroes. I don't mind that it also has DBZ's Ki-charging mechanic (tension). Do you guys like how DQ is somewhat starting to become a medieval fantasy version of Dragon Ball, which is a fantasy science fiction? I liked how his designs have become much more detailed since DQ VIII. Is this just Horii's instructions and it actually isn't Toriyama's preferred drawing style (he prefers minimalist designs much like those found in Dragon Ball)? Or does he simply love creating these characters for Horii? Him leaving the series would be a big deal for me, even though I only got to play using/see his hero designs since DQ VIII. About the NES/SNES games, I still picture the pixelated character sprites as how he illustrated it. I think his designs also added to the series' all over charm. So what are your thoughts? I'd appreciate it if you can share a link or two about Toriyama's work for the series (interviews, quotes, comments about the game, etc.)
