  1. Hello! I am a newcomer to Dragon's Den, here to post about DQX. While there are several comprehensive English plot summaries of V1: Awakening of the Five Tribes out there (I used this one in particular to get through my playthrough), I haven't been able to find any for V2. The Japanese walkthrough websites can be a little tricky to navigate, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and create an English story guide for it. I'll be completing each chapter in bite-sized chunks, and will update this thread whenever I complete one. I plan to upload the whole thing to GameFAQs and maybe a Tumblr blog when I am finished. Note that I am using Google Translate, so I may miss some small details, but I hope that I can help people who are starting V2! Here is my first summary! It covers the quest that starts V2 as well as the part of the story that takes place on the ship. I hope that this helps! Feel free to reply or contact me on my twitter (@manglegrove) if you have any questions.
  2. Five years ago I asked all over the internet for help to translate the Wii game Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road Victory and I got really discouraged by the lack of response. I am a huge Dragon Quest fan, I collect all the games in North America and all those that came out in Japan. I even collected all the various controllers, special editions, collector's editions of games, all the various consoles that came out with a Dragon Quest theme, figures and other merch I find interesting. My entire living room is a Dragon Quest museum. I have been doing this since Dragon Warrior came out. Recently, I started playing Wii games again and I was very much frustrated by the fact that I couldn't play Battle Road Victory properly (I even have the special controller that came out for it by Hori). So I asked on the facebook group Dragon Questers for help with 2 or 3 screenshots of my previous translation work to see if I could even get ONE translator or some help and I did. In the last two weeks, I have translated most of the menus, all the information screens, the hint roll outs at the bottom of the screen, made progress in finding a way to translate the dialog of the RPG mode and even found a way to translated the trading card (Way too many for me translate, theres like 315) Below are some sample screenshots of the translated stuff, and trust me when I say the word sample. Theres a lot of work thats already been done. I am posting here because I think I saw years ago someone who had most of the cards translated, and if you are out there, I'm reaching out to you. I know how you feel, not getting the required help. I feel you. Join me and the others in finally getting this project done. Meddling with the files is a lot of work, but I can do it and I can translate some stuff with my limited japanese knowledge.
  3. Friends, I want to apologize for my bad English. I just found myself in the failure of Dragon Quest 1 and 2 the part where the prince gets sick by the curse of the hargon I'm already frustrated because I thought you had to start the game from the beginning Search these forums and I saw that there was only the option to remove the translation patch of the game. Later, I went to a page where there were tips and codes Dragon Quest 1 and 2 I saw that the problem originates in the name of Roland or Roland. And what I did was save the game with the priest who is in the same city. where the prince is sick, I restarted the game, and so to be able to rename the princess and the prince, first change the name of the princess, in the ROM that I am playing the princess is called "Linda", and the prince is called "Rolando ", I changed the name to the princess with the name sho and the prince pop. First we will change the name to the princess, we save the game with the priest, then restart the game, and now we change the name to the prince, I do not know if I'm the only person in the world who has done this, I would like to think not, and that more people have been able to continue with their game, I hope this information can help those who have kept their game in the pause or have lost the hope of being able to finish this version of Dragon Quest, I send you a big hug from Mexico! Sincerely, your friend Hugoku!
  4. It is sad, after 10 years, this didn't go anywhere. Has anything changed since that time? Will arrive the day when the snes receives a complete DQVI translation?
  5. This is a translation of the Fairy Library Quest. This translation should be able to help you through the puzzles of the quest without spoiling any of the fun of figuring out the puzzles yourself. The guide provides nothing other than the translation of the Japanese that occurs when you take various actions. I believe that there are no level or any other kind of restrictions needed to accept the quest. The quest can be accepted by going into the well in the west part of Megisutoris [メギストリス]. The translation begins after you have already examined the sparkly book in the libary. Quest 1 Start of quest After puzzle is solved After cut-scene After cut scene After battle has ended. After battle After battle After battle After puzzle After battle
  6. http://venturebeat.com/2014/10/18/how-13-years-changed-the-language-and-culture-of-dragon-quest-games/ Neat article. A little tidbit about DQIII was dropped in there. That's something new. And about DQVII :-( Basically nothing new.
  7. Hello everyone. I was playing with cranberry today and I was talking about translating things in DQX. Ive started with the quests. im using http://xn--10-yg4a1a3kyh.jp/ as my source and tranlsating it. Its going to take a while as I have a job to do as well and other things! I am going to work my way through from 1 onwards however if there is a quest that you want me to translate for you (btw I am not fluent so please forgive me any mistakes I make) please send me a message and I will translate the quest for you and then I will add it to the file I am making. If you want anything else translated please let me know. (such as the skills or things like that) James
  8. I figured it might be nice to make a topic strictly where people having problems getting the beta to work can post and maybe get some help. I guess people asking for translations can come here too if they wanted. So my problem is with downloading what I assume is the update for the actual beta. The download is really dragging. It took me about 5 or so hours to fully download the thing, and when it finally finished I must've clicked on the wrong thing because it's downloading the entire thing again. Not sure if anyone can help with this, but just a heads up for others to be careful what you click. I've also had a problem with the download randomly cutting out. I'll get some error code and then the download will close. This usually isn't a big problem since most of the time when I open the installer it'll pickup where it left off, but sometimes it loses a chunk of the download. Like two nights ago it was on 65%, the error popped up, and it was back at 50%. Last night though, it was at 55%, errored out, then went back to 0%. Again, not sure if anyone can give some advice, (it's probably my computer being a POS, friggin' windows 8...) but I figured posting this and making this thread couldn't hurt. People with problems post away, and lets see if we can give each other a helping hand!
  9. Hello, I'm JessicaAlbert13 if you didn't already know. I'm a huge fan of Dragon Quest! I've completed every game, cept Dragon Warrior VII (grah, 82 hours in and still on disc 1). My website is DQ-HQ and I have a tumblr, both links are on my signature. I have a youtube by the same name. In fact if you find a JessicaAlbert13 that's not me I would be shocked! I would love to see more Dragon Quest in English, and not just Dragon Quest games. At home I have a HUGE manga collection. I'm a book nerd! I love Berserk, Sailor Moon (they're re-releasing it), Black Cat, FullMetal Alchemist, +Anima, The Legend of Zelda manga (by Akira Himekawa), Slayers (actually the light novels), .Hack (manga and light novels), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (light novels), Dragon Ball, Sand Land (by Akira Toriyama), Cique Du Freak (by Takahiro Arai), Lucky Star, Ruroni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho... and the list goes on! I also have a collection of manga straight from Japan! I have 14 volumes of the Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden manga. Odd how I have the manga and the game yet I still haven't managed to beat DQ VII! My Dragon Quest VII manga is in Japanese of course. I bought it at an Anime Convention. I've tried translating bits and pieces but my Japanese is...um.... lacking. I'm improving a bit! I can read hiragana and katakana! And I know Japanese grammar rules. I just don't have all the words memorized. (I'm bad at trying to learn languages on my own!) But this post isn't for Dragon Quest VII... you see thanks to ChaotikZ I have downloaded Dragon Quest manga on my computer! I have some 4Koma manga and Dragon Quest VI! Problem there... the Dragon Quest VI manga is missing some vital pages. Same with some of the 4Koma, but 4Koma manga is gag manga and doesn't need a fluid storyline. Each strip is a 4 panel comic. You can see examples here: http://superybertv.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=112426682 However, there was one manga download that had every page included! The Dragon Quest V Heaven Manga, the manga that tells the story of Sora and Ten, the hero and Bianca's children, as they search for their parents. The manga is ten volumes total and every book has every page inlcuded! So let me get to the point of this topic..... I would like to translate the Heaven Manga and some 4Koma manga! I could try it by myself but I would feel comfortable if anyone here on the Den would be willing to help me! My understanding of Japanese is kindergarten at best. I would like someone confident in Japanese to help me out! And I'd like to know how to go about posting manga on the Den here or DQ-HQ. You see, my dream is to post the DQ V Heaven Manga and more 4Koma strips. With more Dragon Quest manga floating around the internet, perhaps fans will regain their vigor for the series! And attract new fans! The only fully translated Dragon Quest manga is the Dai manga by project Square Ocean. DQ has so much more to offer! I'd like to see more Dragon Quest manga available online! If you're willing to lend me a hand or advice email me at: jessicaalbert1992(at)yahoo(dot)com or send me a message on the Den or DQ-HQ!
  10. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to get this finished in time. I'll try to finish this later but I'm posting what I have for now. Requirements for playing the game: DQX USB storage with 16GB (It will be formatted in such a way that it will be unusable for anything but the game, so it would be a waste of space to use something much larger. Japanese Wii, or a Wii modified to have the region, online channel, and probably language switched to Japanese. The homebrew channel alone does not cut it because you need access to the Japanese online store as well as being able to start the game from the USB device instead of a disk. This means that you have to remove your account on the Wii Ware channel, which will delete any games you downloaded from it as well. If you have an older Wii model you can use Homebrew with Any Region Changer. If you have a newer Wii Saigan had success with his model LU70 Wii with Mod Mii created by XFlak. Internet for your Wii to use. If a VPN is needed, please see my VPN guide. (Not required to play, but extremely useful) USB Keyboard. You can probably just take the one from a computer and connect it and be able to use it. A Japanese keyboard is better since pressing Shift-2 won't give you an "@" symbol since that isn't where it is placed on a Japanese keyboard, but all of the Alphabet letters are where you expect them, so normal English can be typed without issue. Pressing "Caps Lock" will allow you to type in English without it getting changed to Japanese. If you buy the slime keyboard you can use that so that the characters on the keyboard match what the game shows on the screen. (Not needed) Classic Controller Pro. You can use it if you really feel more comfortable with it, but if you are used to playing Zelda with a Wii Remote, it shouldn't take long to master it on Wii Remote. 500 Free Wii Points The Japanese Wii system has an ambassador program where if you are helped by someone to connect to the internet you and the person who helped you can each get 500 Wii points. To be eligible you have to have connected to the internet for the first time in the last month. If this is the case, PM me and we can exchange Wii friend codes and I will help you through the process. This will give you half off a month of the game. Starting the game The game will need to be installed first, and updates will likely also need to be downloaded off the internet. I will give a more detailed description of the process once I have the game. Once the game is loaded you can play the offline part of the game. You should be able to change your name in the online world, but you won't be able to change your gender. Commands When playing the game offline Go on an adventure Make an Adventure Log Erase an Adventure Log Return the the Title The online start window looks almost exactly the same as the offline one. Last three commands are: Buy a ticket to play the game When you are having problems Log out. This is the main menu in game Talk Spell Item Battle Records Equipment Search Strength (Translated as Attributes in DQ9) Strategies (Translated as Misc. in DQ9) If someone invites you to join their party or be their friend a new command will temporarily show up on top allowing you to respond to their invitation. Battle Menu Offline Attack Spell Item Strategy (Also translated as Misc. in DQ9) Battle Menu Online The new command in the middle is Skill. Here are some statuses Poison Confused Cursed Paralysis Sleep Communication If you hold down B for a few seconds the "Common Sayings" menu comes up so that you can easily say something (rather than type it). They are also paired with gestures (which you can change). If you just memorize these sayings you can communicate with Japanese people without seeming odd. This is the first page of common sayings. Thanks! Hello! Do your best! Congratulations! You're welcome Nice to make your acquaintance! (Use this one when you or someone else joins a party) Great work (Though it is a saying you only say at the end of playing) I'm sorry OK to go? OK! I will try and add more to the translation guide for the main commands latter. Still need to add the manner guide. Especially when using a VPN it is extremely important that we are courteous and well behaved so that we aren't viewed as a danger to the friendly community atmosphere that the game aims for. One persons mistake could also lead to the IP getting banned, so you are putting others at risk as well. Main things are saying thank you when someone cheers you on or heals you.
