  1. I genuinely love Fleurette and that voice of hers. Anyway, playing the PS2 version of V really made me miss the puns in modern DQ. Not to say I don't enjoy DQ regardless but it just adds a bit more of an enjoyable punch. It's what I usually say about anime/game dubs. Original language subbed is all well and good but I feel like a really well made dub makes it so that characters can just click with you more when you hear it in your own language. Anyway from Builders 2, I get a bit of a giggle out of "What is your Dyeing Wish" and Hargon's Heroes" More than anything I really like the alliteration. I mean have you seen some of those item descriptions. Especially in B2, they sneak one in for just about everything.
  2. Yeah, I think they'd play it safe with something cheap and easy like that. I wouldn't mind if they just get a bunch of the best stages together. I haven't played 30th Anniversary yet but I'd love to play on that Charlock Castle stage and that XI stage (haven't gotten that far yet). DQ Stages I'd like to see return Tantegel (Portable) World Tree (Portable) Alexandria (Portable) Rendarak (Special) There's your snowy stage Zenithia (Special) Alefgard (been around since... 2 on the SFC I think?) Observatory (Wii) Btw, I was browsing the net for Fortune Street stuff, because I do that to see if there's anything like fan translation news or anything. In this case I found a 4chan post where someone "leaked" the announcement of a new Fortune Street game for Switch to be revealed on February 6th. Fishy as Hell but man... Part is gone but I saved the text for future use "> Fortune Street: GOLDI saw the direct a few weeks early and there was this strange DQ & Mario crossover that was very similar to the command board of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. It really caught my atention so i'll post what it was revelaed, however im not only limited to this game i can answer more stuff of other games of the direct. The game is called "Fortune Street: Gold" (the name is really lame, but whatever)Mario, Luigi, Peach, Rosalina, Pauline, Toadette and Mallow from the Mario side and Jessica, Alena, Sylvando, Erik, Veronica, Loska and Daena from the Dragon Quest side were shown, named and confirmed. The Boards Mario Starship, Delfino Square, Luncheon Kingdom, Whomp's Domino Ruins, Castle Trodain, Neos, Octagonia and Arazar were also shown, named and confirmed. No much else was shown, besides a October 2020 release date.>OtherA new IP called "Boost Kingdom", seems to be some sort of visual novel.Port of Ni No Kuni 2.New animal crossing trailer, i'm not really into animal crossing but seems similar of what was shown on previous directs, could be wrong i dont play those games.> Super Smash Bros. UltimateNothing at all, i'm sorry if you were expecting something, this game was probably the most interesting part of the direct.
  3. I'd find it funny if it was Lowenthal because then he'd be the one English VA who has voiced a main hero in every big JRPG franchise (Cecil in FF, Marth in FE, Luke fon Fabre in Tales, and he's one of the possible voices for the main avatar in Xenoblade X) It's still possible they might closer to release but then it wouldn't surprise me if they don't, they only like to post stuff they really want to push like their genuine, made-by-themselves originals and not the "we licensed this as an exclusive" original.
  4. I remember reading an articlea couple years ago about an inside source was saying SE was scrambling to port some of their PS4/Vita games to Switch because they didn't expect the Switch to do so well. Still nothing about a 30th Anniversary port. I figured MAYBE after DQXI came out so they could use English voice actors including Sylvando but nothing. The fact that DQX stuff is in there might really be hindering a release here. I feel the best thing to hope for is an HD Remix of the Wii game in the same way that 30th Anniversary was kinda sorta an HD Remix of the PSP/PS2 games.
  5. You know I checked the citation on their page and it looks like the dub is SAG approved. So it looks like it’s getting a Union dub, which means they might be seeking talent above the usual anime/game talent pool. If there’s any big actors I can see them getting I could see Tom Holland with accent as Luka. Hopefully we get a trailer soon. I mentioned this in the other thread, but I wonder if Netflix will jump on getting Dai when it comes out so it could have all the Dragon Quest and SE stuff together. Plus, they could do what they’re doing with Saint Seiya, another Shonen Jump Anime by Toei, they used the dub cast of the new series and went back and dubbed the original series with the new cast. I’d prefer a SimulDub with Funimation and maybe a Toonami airing for better exposure, but Netflix for everything Dragon Quest wouldn’t be a bad way to go.
  6. It's just the fancy, formal term for dubbing. "Audio Dialog Replacement" or "Automated Dialog Replacement"
  7. Could be nothing as it’s something that can be easily added by anyone, but I just noticed ANN’s encyclopedia entry quietly updated with NYAV Post as ADR Production. They’ve been doing a bunch of the recent big anime movies with GKIDS https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=22481
  8. I love these suggestions! I hope they get someone more than just the usual Bang Zoom/LA Anime pool. Even if it isn't the best adaptation of DQ, I still feel like it deserves some good treatment. Having DQXI-level British voice acting via SIDE I feel would be the best, most reasonable option, but at the same time there's just... no way of knowing what they'll do. Only real hint we've got is that the summary clearly shows we'll get localized terms and such. Bang Zoom's dub of High Score Girl another "Netflix" anime they really flip flop between localization and Japanese translation. Plus, I'm bitter they didn't try and get actual SF VAs like Travis Willingham as Guile.
  9. Same. I'm mostly curious how they'll dub it into English and see who they get.
  10. Yeah this has me most excited as well. Even if we discount the Netflix possibility or even Viz comes in a licenses it (I'd rather not, they tend to kinda sit on licenses and just sort of dubs them as an afterthought) imagine this scenario Funimation announces their acquisition They announce a simuldub They court Toonami to air it on their block (I mean they're full of Shonen Jump shows anyhow) giving the show (and series in general) greater exposure The Square-Enix game comes along. Let's say it's a KH-like Action RPG. Anime dubbed games are a rarity these days, but I could see SE pushing it to have the English dub (not exactly the first S-E game based on an Anime that Funimation has dubbed)
  11. Ha! You know I came back to talk about this. You made a post about a year and a half ago talking to a Netflix rep. And with what's been going on, that post of yours really stuck out to me. I wouldn't count Netflix completely out. I think Funimation is the likely choice (their Ace Attorney dub was really good and captured all the little details of the game's localization, they work well with Toei and have a solid track record with Shonen Jump properties). But I can imagine a scenario where Netflix really breaks out the funds as a sponsor of the new Anime and gets exclusive streaming rights. They might even go the extra mile and get British VAs or even top talent after they made a historic pact with actor unions which include dubbing. I mean Netflix has been kinda chummy with Square Enix lately. First they have Dad of Light, they got Your Story, and they're now working on an FFXIV live action show. But then I have no idea how much weight Square-Enix has in deciding how Dai is distributed. I'd PREFER Funimation, but I think Netflix has a fair shot and I wouldn't necessarily mind, it would just be a longer wait). But I keep going back to that post of yours and think, "Damn, maybe that call really did do something!"
  12. I don't think this was worth making a new thread, but another interesting discovery. Until now I had really overlooked this in the mobile script, it's a messy rip and easy to miss, but the dialog related to the Reborth Stone (formerly the Dragon Potion) is stored just before the Opening Prologue. There's two lines for a lot of the save prompts which kinda makes me think it's randomly either DQ1 Hero or Gwaelin. But one message if you refuse to save makes it pretty clear the voice you hear Gwaelin "Th-!? B-!? Hmph! Dost thou truly mean to take thy leave without first recording thy progress...?" That's the same confounded stutter she does in DQ1. I won't have room to add it in my script port though, unfortunately.
  13. I have a bit of a theory. It’s a Long shot, but I’m kinda hoping there’s still a chance there might be some extra alts. It just seems weird that Sakurai would say each Hero has their own VA but can’t announce them yet. I mean it could just be things aren’t finalized yet or they want until they have everything ready to show off., but if there were more heroes repped it would make sense to wait until the release. I don’t know, I’m just stubbornly optimistic they’d throw in some female alts. Like Joker got a few unique bells and whistles, I want to think Hero has a couple of surprises yet to be revealed. Another, more plausible theory, maybe the lack of English voice work is because they didn’t want to involve any outside work until the trailer reveal to avoid leaks. Though, I wouldn’t make any bets.
  14. No announcement for the character aside from Summer. The Season Pass with all characters are 20 bucks, I think the characters individually are 4.99. Like Joker, there'll probably be some DQ Mii costumes for purchase too (.99 cents) Yeah, Sakurai said Echoes take practically zero effort. Tansut, who leaked Cloud and Erdrick said his source told him that it would have a female alt. There's also the mysterious Jane files associated with Joker which suggests there was a female alt planned for him as well. It's still super slim, but I have some hope there's going to be some DLC echoes.
  15. I noticed that too, crazy. I wonder if it’s from newcomers looking for info or people like me who were just looking for some art for reference. But man, I was not expecting an epic CG trailer! I was hoping for some female alts though :( Maybe there’ll be a Heroine echo.
  16. More characters revealed via ANN The newly announced roles include: (Top row, left to right in image above): Kendo Kobayashi as Sancho Ken Yasuda as Pusan (Dr. Agon in the English version of Dragon Quest V) Suzuki Matsuo as Ludman (Rodrigo Briscoletti in the English version) (Botoom row, left to right): Chikako Kaku as Martha (Madalena in the English version) Kōichi Yamadera as Surarin (Rocket in the English version) Has Pusan/Dr. Agon had an official design before? He just had a generic NPC sprite as I recall.
  17. Hey, man, wouldn’t make much sense if I didn’t share the love. Share away!
  18. Sorry to keep you guys waiting, but I have a beta for Dragon Warrior Quest 2 😛 It's rough and it's only script, monsters, and items right now. But if you're eager to try it out, I appreciate knowing any problems you guys might find. I had to redo the dictionary DW2 uses for compression over and over and OVER again to get things to fit, and FINALLY got it! Like the first game, the new script is about double the size! I also have a bunch of time freed up for me recently. Also thanks to abw on the more technical side of things. https://www.mediafire.com/file/tfh668w56h02d9p/DW21b.xdelta/file
  19. I don't think the script could be that big could it? I think putting all the files in a zip (specifically 7zip having good compression) should work here just fine.
  20. Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was curious about the script files for IV-VI mobile myself. Got the apk and unzipped it, but I can't seem to find these MPT files you're talking about. I don't see a \msg\en directory either. Mind sharing what you used? I tried looking through the files with UnityEX.
  21. I sure can see that tag line XD. But I don’t know if they thought moving away from Toriyama’s style was simply an aesthetic choice, or if maybe they want to try to appeal to the West’s tastes or if maybe they just don’t want people in the West to lump this in with DB and have them think it’s some sort of spinoff (which I don’t think would be a bad thing considering how popular DBZ is). I think Gkids would be a good bet (they get solid talent and don’t necessarily go for the big or “washed up” stars either), mayyybe Netflix, but I hear they tend to cheap out on voice work when they acquire rights to something (as opposed to producing it themselves)
  22. Just fiddling around and experimenting really and the occasional asking. I think romhacking.net would be a better resource than GBA temp. The bin file you have could be an archive with all the text, or it could be the text itself if you open it up with a text editor. Otherwise QuickBMS is the way to go. Yeah, that’d be an undertaking even for the most adept and experienced modder. Speaking of DQV PS2, if @Tom-Servo is reading this, I had made a comment on RHDN a while back saying I preferred official SE localizations and that while I enjoyed (REALLY enjoyed) playing DQV on PS2 as my first crack at DQV, that I didn’t care for the more literal translation in comparison to official DQ releases. If this came off like I was downplaying your hard work and efforts, I’m really REALLY sorry. I’ve dealt with a lot of “Sub-only” snobbery over the years, so I’m really quick to get testy over people scoffing at localizations. So the bin file you have is all the text then? For a lot of new games, the text is conveniently in a file with little to no compression of any kind. With older hardware like NES and SNES you need a special Hex editor like WindHex and you need to find the table that converts byte values to letters which can vary from game to game. I would say, check RHDN’s Wiki, Data Crystal, but there’s no entry for DQV, so you’d have to go throw a trial and error process of creating a table yourself. I’m late on this and I’m sorry, can’t say I know what’s causing your error, but if you want the scripts yourself, just download my rip https://www.mediafire.com/file/4g2t87gf4smcmi5/dq123rip.7z/file Anyway, thanks to @Burner for helping me out with some DW2 investigating. I needed to see how certain battle lines worked in game because they’re just in pieces in the ROM and wanted to make sure I knew what to change them to. There’s still a couple of lines that eluded us and COULD be just throwaway unused lines. Roughly paraphrasing because I’m on vacation and away from my computer right now: ”Follow me and make not a peep.” and ”No longer shall (name) walk this world!” Anyone here happen to know? i figure if they’re unused (there’s a duplicate Prologue in compressed form I removed to free up space), I could just delete them and free up space and I NEED space. As it stands my script stands at about 34K. The original is about 17K, and the game supports scripts 32K in size. Technically there’s room for more, but the game is only programmed to use 2 16K banks and there’s no space to add to the bank swapping routine. Thankfully, after some AGGRESSIVE and meticulous dictionary editing, (DW2’s unique form of compression) I was able to get it down to just .2K (200 bytes) over the limit, and from there, I just trimmed the fat a little. Removed gratuitous pauses in NPC dialog or some of the longer “HAHAHAHAHAHA!” lines I removed a couple HAs. I’m hoping the SNES remakes don’t have this problem and they could be the proper “definitive” versions.
  23. Oh and you're very welcome. Still in the middle of script insertion for DW2 (it's kinda crazy how the particular rom works) but I should be clearing that hurdle soon hopefully.
  24. QuickBMS https://aluigi.altervista.org/quickbms.htm You can find the script on the same page. aluigi fixed the script so that it can auto-detect which DQ game you're extracting from (I think 3 is slightly different than 1 and 2)
  25. Something like that SHOULD work actually. I just added a couple of more data banks. I was referring to methods of "patching" the cart wouldn't work because the amount of memory is set on a cart. This looks like you can make anything you want under 512 KB or 32 data banks.
