  1. And...yeah. I'm more trans than initially expected. So, instead of copying and pasting all my details into my cannockprincess account, I may as well just revive this one. Not gonna go into super detail on all the existential stuff that led to this (basically, all that stuff up there was deep, deep, denial), but just so y'all know. Sorry for all the back-and-forth.
  2. All right, I got two posters for this contest. The first one's not so much a poster as just an illustration, but here ya go: I like the second one a bit more, composition-wise. More "poster-y", if you will. I was gonna throw in Maribel and Kiefer, but I thought that might detract from Arus. It is a contest for him, after all.
  3. Anyone have a game rec that serves as a distraction from anxiety? I have two hours to kill, and I'm being hit with a wave of nerves.

Rise of the Dragon's a good timekiller.

There's a guy called Shagg / kuposan3 on Youtube who has playthroughs of Dragon Warrior Monsters and a bootleg version of Pokemon Green. I think they're mostly amusing.

I meant rec as in recommendation, but it's all good now.

  4. Driving lessons are boring and useless...I don't get what everyone is so worked up about.

For me, the pressure of knowing I was in control of a thing that could kill myself and others around me was intimidating. Because of that, I didn't get my license until i was 23. A huge mistake on my part. Driving's not really a big deal.

If you end up like an old lady going 10-15MPH under the speed limit, I will end you.

Driving lessons are for just that. A car is a tool. A dangerous, gas-spewing tool. But it's also a tool that can end life super-easily.

I simply don't drive. I don't live in town and we only have one vehicle, so I couldn't even if I wanted to. And the college I'm applying to provides a free buss pass to all students. And my back-up college has everything within walking distance(for me anyway. I have strong legs) should I not get into my first choice.

  5. Tell me about it! I may actually be able to get my hands on this one!
  6. I think I will. You guys seem like a pretty okay bunch.
  7. I've been posting around the forums, but I don't think I ever officially introduced myself. I'm Casey, or "Space Case". I joined because I needed someplace to vent about Dragon Quest other than Tumblr; I recently left that website (finally) because it was, well, Tumblr. I'm really into the games (no, really?) and, while I can't recite alchemy recipes off the top of my head, I like to think I've got something valuable to add to this community. I draw a little, write a little, and I'm really into challenge runs (it's gotten to the point where I can only play Pokemon if I'm doing a Nuzlocke). Nothing super special, but hey. I'm also transgender (female-to-male) and, while I won't tell you to go kill yourself like my Tumblr-dwelling kin, I am willing to educate anyone who needs it. Again, I'm not exactly an expert, but I know what being trans feels like for me, and I'm not going to try to speak for the whole community. For a more direct explanation, here's a clip from my "about me" page: Before you ask, yes. I am a transgender man (FTM, or female-to-male). No, I don't go on Tumblr. I got so sick of those jerks and their warped ideas of social justice, so before you write me off as a "Tumblr girl," I'm a) not on Tumblr, and b) not a girl. So, yeah. That's me. I'm excited to be here, and I look forward to chatting with you all. --Space Case (edited for clarity)
  8. I know we have a Facebook page, but a Dragon's Den Facebook group would be pretty cool. FB groups are more interactive than pages, and are meant more for socializing than advertising. It would be good for getting to know Den members better, and chatting outside the forum.
  9. We are set on comparing because we all know which is better, and it's fun to pick out all the ways in which it's better. Yeah, well, that much is true.
  10. Honestly, they're just completely different games. While the "monster taming" concept is there in both series, the similarities end there. I don't get why people are so set on comparing them.
  11. Fire Emblem: Awakening. That's all I have to say.
  12. Also, may I add, the two series have very different audiences. Pokemon is intended for children, hence simpler gameplay and "cuter" monsters (personally, I like DQ monster designs better, but eh), and DWM, as a spin-off game, has to rely on the main series' fans. As you can see here, most Dragon Quest fans are guys in their late teens/20s (note most), so Square Enix targets them. While Pokemon has older fans, too, the games are not intended for them (if they were, Genwunners might actually be taken seriously). And a lot of these fans started playing Pokemon as children, and continue playing for the nostalgia value. So, basically, the Pokemon Co. has an army of kids and once-kids, while we have a few loyal fans who can put up with awful puns and silly monster designs. I don't think it really has anything to do with the quality of the games themselves, since kids aren't going to bother looking up game reviews. They see a cool cover or a cute monster and go straight to Mom.
  13. I agree. I've seen discussions where people claim DQV to have a "romance subplot" or even call it a "love story" when I though the marriage choices were more strategic than romantic. It's left up to the Hero to declare his feelings for one of the three brides, though (personally) I just wanted the Zenithian Shield! Though I love DQV, I've always felt that the marriage subplot was a weak point in the game, it seems forced, and the wives are more of a cute waifu to tote around in your party rather than a living, breathing character.
  14. Just got back from my cousin's wedding--fun but exhausting. At least I beat the Marquis de Leon on the plane ride back!
