    YAAAAAAAAAAY - It won't likely show on front page. Kirby, Breath of Fire 2, Crystalis, and lesser games coming to Switch!

  2. I’ve been enjoying Trials of Mana more than I thought I was going too. I haven’t been able to play it very much since I started, but it’s been pretty great so far. I’m glad I can check it off the “SNES games to play,” list now.

  3. Happy Thanksgiving guys!  Much love to you all!

    ...I was bad, I participated in Black Thursday!  The day of true evil, but I snagged the last non-floor copies of Bloodstained, Builders 2, and the last Walmart copy of Sekiro...got into Walmart at 6:45 or so, and with a nearly depleted PS4 black thursday, the day of evil, stock, I managed the last copy of Sekiro.  So I now have Sekiro as well :).

    I can get the DLC packages for Builders 2 later, after I beat the game.

  4. Happy Thanksgiving, guvs! Hope everyone has a great day whenever and whoever you spend today with!

  5. @Dakhil and anyone else wondering about weight gain in the US...well, it's happening worldwide, and there's also a weight loss revolution in the US due to certain new dietary trends thanks to more people listening to doctors that actually talk about Insulin resistance.  This should peak your interest on one of three major glaring problems facing health and creating fat people (ir, omega-6, and sugar):

  8. Happy All Hallow's Eve to the Den!

  9. So Halloween is tomorrow, but my dad ran out of ripped Halloween videos on, what, Tuesday? Clearly the only thing left to do for the family is to consume the bottom of the Hallmark Christmas barrel.

  12. The video at the top of this page (https://www.dragonquest.com/ofthestars/) is EXACTLY what DQ advertising should look like. I almost cried watching it, the costumes and visual design evoke exactly what I imagined while playing the NES games as a kid.

  13. Well this is terrible news. I’ve really enjoyed the Mario & Luigi RPG series ever since Superstar Saga. I hope this won’t be the end of Mario RPGs as we know it.

  14. I haven’t been able to play it too much yet, but so far the Sega Genesis Mini is really top quality. I didn’t grow up with the Genesis, but I’m liking the game line up and the attention to detail Sega put into this thing. Definitely matches the quality of the SNES Mini.

  15. Can't wait to spend my birthday playing DQ XI S. Definitely going to try at least some of those challenge modes this time, any suggestions?

      Well, there is Sylvando's utterly borked and broken skill that uses 1000 gold to deal fixed damage (possible to learn late Act 1, and viable all the way through): Gold Rush.

      It's a hidden "?" tile in his Showmanship line, the one on the right.

      It doesn't in the PS4, though who knows, it might here.

      I've also noticed, after a bit of testing, that "Party Perishes" affects the overall rates of Talk Tripe + Shypox, both in and out of battle.

      Out of battle (Tripe + Shypox):

      16% when present, 20% when not

      In battle (Shypox + Super Shypox):

      15~16% when present, a full 25% (PS4 level) when not

      =====

      Boomerangs also seem to have a higher hit rate overall than the PS4, but seems to be further affected by Stronger Monsters.

      It reduces per each new monster hit.

      PS4: 95% -> 90% -> 80% -> 70% -> 60% ...and so on
      Switch (Normal Monsters): 100% -> 90% -> 85% -> ?
      Switch (Stronger Monsters): 100% -> 95% -> 90% -> ?

      It could be RNG, I had a string of consistent hits without Stronger Monsters towards the end of testing, so it could be a flat 100-> 95 -> 90 or 85% -> maybe 80 or 75% -> and a reduction of 10% every step/new monster hit.

      I would say avoid Shypox and Super Shypox if you want a less annoying option.  The dialogue is funny however, like the Hero "passing wind" and becoming embarrassed as a result.  This can be frustrating in battle.  It works like a curse where there's a chance you'll lose a round in battle.

      Plus if Shypox is present, it reduces the chance for Talk Tripe to trigger.  They both reduce by half when speaking to villagers.  Shypox + Super Shypox also seems to drastically reduce the rate for either to trigger (halving it for each).

      The "EXP cap" option can be fun depending on the challenge type, but most people find it frustrating and annoying only obtaining Gold.  However it adds that extra layer of difficulty to Stronger Monsters by drastically reducing your likely level (DQ11's EXP gains are higher than even the remakes...so it's very easy to overlevel normally, and stay ahead of the curve in Stronger Monsters, unless you purposely avoid battles).

      "Party Perish if Hero Dies," is brutal as fudge.  You don't return to church, you go back to the title screen like most RPG's, and ALL progress is lost since your last save and auto-save.  I kind of like it, it really adds that extra flair of challenge, though this can be drastically reduced by simply not using the Hero, I'm going to use him anyhow.

      "No Armour" is also pretty brutal, especially if paired with "Stronger Monsters."  You'd have to aim for defensive options as a priority, and Serena + Sylvando are absolutely key players in every battle, Rab being third seat for general utility.

      "No Shopping" can be annoying, but you'll get more than adequate equipment through forging.  Sometimes shops are ahead, but not always, and late game, forging is almost always superior, and at plenty of points you'll be able to forge stuff sold in shops.  Plus the game assures you'll have ample materials if you're picking up what's on every map (and you can easily ascertain this issue using the map feature...plus they made the shiny spots more noticeable).

      ...they removed "No Fleeing," which is a godsend, as it's just annoying.

      ====

      Personally I'm going to do a full 8x run in 2D, which should be much harder than 3D in the early game, due to the inability to pick fights, and extreme healing limitations for the Hero.  Plus shypox is just brutal prior to reaching the first major town.

      My demo save is a 7x run (everything but No Armour), and it's already brutal as fudge.  I've died more often than in any DQ ever, thanks to inopportune Shypox moments.  Without the automatic resurrection, it means I have to be extremely cautious about what I pick fights with, and how low I let my HP get.

  18. I might disagree with him on some instances, but I don't think anyone can deny Satoru Iwata is one of a kind.

  20. Switch DQ11S Demo patch is now available in NA/EU.

  21. Sweet, Chrono Cross’s original soundtrack was added to iTunes today. I’m definitely going to get it since the physical copy I bought a few years ago was a bootleg. Chrono Cross has my favorite soundtrack from Yasunori Mitsuda, and IMO is the best PS1 RPG soundtrack, especially in terms of quality.

  22. Pumped for a 40 minute Nintendo Direct tomorrow!

      Don't joke.  Disney buying something means that thing gets ruined.  It's one thing for Lucas to ruin Star Wars by becoming a lethargic fatass business mafia man hell bent on merchandising only (the star wars cantina was irrefutable evidence from the getgo how little respect he had for the storyline, characters, or perception of the franchise, he only saw merchandising...probably why Brookes went to such great lengths making fun of him for it after Lonestar meets Yogurt, and the name of the Spaceballs sequel, lol).  Anyone who bothers to read Lucas' books, or read on how they were written, would be surprised to find he wrote literally nothing.  He came up with ideas and hired writers.  It's why the prequels were just...attrocious.  Especially the dialogue, storyboarding, and nonsensical storyline...nothing in that storyline made sense.  The plot holes are beyond imagining.  Yet somehow...someway, Disney managed to make the prequels seem a welcome sight, a decent trilogy, a well written story, with likeable characters and actual story arcs (at least Anakin DID have development, even if it was wonky and untethered like a blindfolded monkey throwing darts at the hero cycle to determine the sequence of events, and some crucial elements are eliminated while others are doubled down, and the order is...all over the place).

      Disney...ugh.  Everytime they gobble something up, they play politics, or social political games with the stories.  I mean it isn't like Marvel wasn't doing that ahead of time, but it went into overdrive with the Disney acquisition.  It's too much.  No new ideas or new actual characters, like in the old days.  It's taking existing franchises and turning them into something new.

      Abrams just decimated Star Wars.  Admittedly, it's Lucas' own fault.  Lucas owned a large percentage of Star Wars, and all the characters and storylines made under him.  Any attempt to connect to that universe, or maintain those characters would mean royalties (rather large royalty sums as well, supposedly around 20~30%) paid directly to Golf-Cart McGuffin.

      Sorry, but God, the very thought of Disney destroying another company by enveloping it, and feeding on it like a vampire, while it sucks out any creative process dry, and uses rehashed themes and concepts, with happy happy go lucky false narratives without any real character development or character cycle arcs, and lacing it behind the scenes with sexual innuendo, like penises in a cloud, or vaginas, or breasts, or the word sex tossed somewhere in a scene, where the mind reads it, but the eye and consciousness does not.

      Maybe I'm thinking of masturbation, but it's fornication that does not lead to conception, and it wastes the seed of the man, which is considered sinful, derived from Leviticus and Deuteronomy:

      http://www.lavistachurchofchrist.org/LVanswers/2004/2004-03-24b.htm

      This isn't a Catholic site from what I can tell.  Reading through the site, they seem more like a born-again independent sect.

      I went to a Catholic School called St. Michael's High School from half of grade 10 through to 12.  I had to take a religion class each year as a requirement.  The notion of masturbation and even a bj as potentially sinful was brought up and considered morally grey due to the nature of sex being the temptation of the serpent, and thus the requirement of sex being your statement, that it require marriage, be between spouses, and for the purpose of procreation.  Any sex in any form beyond that was generally shunned, though we weren't taught it would lead to hell directly, but would open the door to other forms of debauchery that were true sins, on top of the lesser sin of wasting the seed.
