  1. Oh man, Cold Steel 2 got me pretty teary eyed when Rean reunited with Alisa. We’re talking DQ11 Hero finding out who Rab really is and the cutscenes that follow in Dundrasil levels here.

It’s crazy the games got me choked up like that since I normally don’t get like that when playing games in the first place! That’s the power of Dragon Quest and Trails of games I suppose!

  2. I’ve been wondering why the 4th Division is so strong in the Cold Steel series. Well, turns out it’s leader Craig the Red is voiced by Sean Schemmel, aka Goku from Dragon Ball! No wonder that part of the army is so strong! Haha

  3. Guys...I managed to see the end of the Nintendo Direct and heard the news about The Hero from Dragon Quest making it into Smash...but I DID NOT expect Banjo and Kazooie to make it in! I saw their trailer and I was smiling the entire time! So glad to see the duo back!

Come on, Matt. Don’t rain on my parade here.

Tootie better be there in Smash too. As a high-ranking Spirit.

  4. Wow, I am having some weird luck in Earthbound right now. Decided to resume my file on my SNES Mini, and after beating one of the Mad Taxis in Fourside I wound up getting an Xterminator Spray, which apparently can be used again and again. Never seen this item before in the game, so I’m guessing it’s a really rare drop or something!

Don't forget to save your Rock Candy and only use Condiments with it.

Also, very cool.  Good luck with Poo's special equipment, particularly the Sword, and the ultimate weapon, the Gutsy Bat (I have still never found one legitimately).

    2. YangustheLegendaryBandit

I got a Sword of Kings on my first playthrough after 20 minutes. Never have found another one in my many replays over the years.

  5. Hooray, I got the platinum for Shadow of the Colossus. Feels good to finally have it since Shadow is one of my favorite games. Now it’s time to finally get around to playing The Last Guardian.

    1. ignasia

Grats mate.  That one can't be easy.  Someday I'll have to get the PS4 version, but definitely waaaaaay down on the list of must-have games.

    2. YangustheLegendaryBandit

Maybe by the time you get the PS4 remake we’ll have a full remake of ICO as well on PS4. Having all three of the Team ICO games on one system would be excellent, and I imagine if BluePoint Studios did an ICO remake (like how they handled the Shadow remake), it would have a lot of love and care put into it.

  6. The hills are aliiiiiive, with the sound of COR BLIMEY!

  7. Nice! I finally maxed out the stamina bar in Shadow of the Colossus! Now to see if I can finally reach the elusive Secret Garden and cross the great stone bridge that leads into the Forbidden Lands. Never done either before in the game, so time to give it a try!

  8. I’ve gotten back into Dragon Ball FighterZ the last few days. The game is still pretty fun to play, and I even managed to get all the Spring capsule prizes while they’ve been available.

I’m also glad they finally added Kid Goku. Yeah it’s another Goku added to the roster, but I’ll confess this was the one character I had hoped they’d add. He’s pretty fun.

  9. 2 Spyro games down, one more to go! I’ve really been enjoying the Reignited Trilogy, and visually it’s exactly what I imagined the original Spyro trilogy would look like if it ever was remade.

Time for Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon!

  10. Since I’ve been in a Falcom mood, I’m going to use the Yangus of Falcom games for a profile picture: Dogi, Adol’s adventuring friend from the Ys series.

Now if only he had his own equivalent to COR BLIMEY!

    1. ignasia

Dogi the Wallcrusher at your service!

That's more or less the only consistent turn of phrase he uses that I recall.  Indeed, no innately funny line, as it requires delivery and demonstration for the punch line to really work as comedy.

I guess you can just go...Oh Yeah!

    2. YangustheLegendaryBandit

Haha. Now I want to see Dogi burst through a wall while I’m running through an area in Ys 8 and shout “Oh yeah!”

  11. In honor of this very special day, it’s time for me to use my absolute favorite DQ character as my profile picture: Prince Charmles from Dragon Quest VIII. No other DQ character is as perfect as him. Truly the pinnacle of the entire series!

    1. ignasia

Indeed.  Charmles the Brave!  Charmles the Mighty!  Charmles the Magnificent!  Charmles, conquerer of the female mind, body, and soul!  Charmles, King amongst Princes!  Lord of battle!  Conquerer of Fear!  Master of self-discipline!  His fine muscular physique covered in a bouncy cushion and rend tender his love making, so the fine lines and cuts of his true physique underneath do not rip or cut his lass to pieces...*sob* such a gentleman that even his body should render a softness to prevent harm, and yet this never gets in the way when in need of unleashing his fearsome POWER!

Truly the PINNACLE of MALE PERFECTION!  Not just in a game, but as a role model for all men in the world to match and only hope to follow.  When the Jesus walked the Earth, the inner dialogue of the "Am that I Am," referred to his inner picture of Charmles' monumentous perfection...that his aura is so great it spans beyond the scope of art and speaks to a being many of us know only as God.  Truly he walks amongst men but in a vision...a game.  Fleeting though his moment in the sun is, the great teacher for the short period of grace the party is lent, to bask in his magnificence, and to only hope to learn in that short period, to stand taller, face the heavens and sky, and hope to become as the thrice great and near perfect man that Charmles is.  Fleeting a thought, as they are but a shadow, but try they do, and try they must.

When Morrie speaks to the Hero, he thinks only of Charmles, though knowing the man he admires most is always away on business, he settles on the sad decrepit huckster motley crew pretending to be adventurers, with their gruff and sallow bodies.  Yearning to one day gaze upon the absolute man, the pinnacle of monster domination and control, of gentle command and stern demeanor in battle, the great Gusto of Gusto!  Morrie suffers the Hero to fill the void left by Charmles absence, imagining the greatness of Charmles should he but find the time to travel to his humble arena, and tame what is left of the notorious monsters in the field.  They say his machismo is so great, just ONE STARE is enough...one...one stare, and a monster is swoon, no matter its strength.

  12. God, trying to cut off Kalameet’s tail in Dark Souls 1 has got to be one of the worst things to do in the game. I’m glad cutting off dragon tails for specific weapons was heavily dropped after Dark Souls 1.

    1. solo

it certanly is a pain in the behind to cut of that tail

Like 90% certain there won’t be another Xbox console at this rate.

  13. Boy, the Bed of Chaos really is a terrible boss in Dark Souls 1. Now if it’s better or worse than fighting Micolash in Bloodborne...well, that’s the real question.

    1. solo

the bed of chaos is the easiest boss in the original dark souls  imo the only difficult part is getting to the core of the boss otherwise it is the easiest boss i have ever fought

  14. “Run you pigeons! It’s Robert Frost!”

  15. I forgot how much fun Monster Hunter is. Been replaying World some since my original weekend plans were canceled.

  16. World 7 in Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of the most frustrating places in a Mario game, let alone platformers. I forgot how much of a bastard that whole world is.

    1. The Dog of Zahan

      The Dog of Zahan

I been there, friend.  I remember the one stage in that world where you can only cross by scrambling across the mouths of invincible piranha plants under the power of a Super Star, and you always have to reach the next block before the power runs out or, instead of another Super Star, it'll only be a coin and you'll die.  That's easily the most annoying stage in the entire game.

    2. Bururian

That's why I just wrong warp in 7-1.

    3. YangustheLegendaryBandit

I would have skipped world 7 entirely, but since I was in a race where you couldn’t use warp whistles I HAD to play it. I was doing okay but then I hit the level Zahan was talking about. I wanted to save my clouds for levels in World 8, but...well, that didn’t happen.

I’ve always had trouble with World 7 for as long as I’ve played SMB3.

  17. I’ve been playing Metal Gear Solid 3 on my Vita the last few days. I don’t know why though; could be because of the forests/jungles of Etrian Nexus making me think of the forest in MGS3. I’m happy though because I managed to kill The End early. I’ve never managed that before, and there was an even a trophy for doing it. It felt wrong to cheat the old man out of his battle with Snake though, so I had to reset. The End is my favorite of the Cobra Unit after all.

  18. Re-watching Howl’s Moving Castle this evening, I was reminded why it’s my favorite Studio Ghibli movie. I haven’t watched the movie for a few years, but a lot of the details I’ve come to like about the movie came flooding back as I watched, as well as new ones I appreciate now since I’m older.

  19. Happy Groundhog Day! Be sure to watch the Bill Murray movie of the same name today! Or two times. Or three times. Keep reliving the movie just like Bill!

  20. I found the perfect avatar to match my excitement for Etrian Odyssey Nexus. Protector girl is HYPED for February 5th!

  21. Man I’m tired of hearing about Kingdom Hearts 3. Everywhere I go on the internet lately it’s the only thing I really hear/see about.

Thankfully there aren’t a lot of people here super into KH so at least he still has the Den to call...my sanctuary....

I want to play KH3, but I need to finish the rest of the series first (my PS4 is currently in storage and my RPG time is going mostly in DQX, with a few scrap hours in DQXI Act 3). That said, KH fans can get pretty annoying... but I've actually not seen much about the series lately. Not any more than I do from any series' new release, at least. Honestly I'm only barely aware that it exists.

  22. I don’t think I’ve messed around in a game as much as I have in Red Dead Redemption 2. At this point it’s gotten to “Story missions? What story missions?”

  23. Strange Journey Redux is giving me a kick in the pants again, just like the original. Man, I wish more Atlus games were this difficult nowadays. I appreciate then challenge....except Macca Beam. That spell is just evil, even by Atlus standards.

  24. Since I’ve been replaying Dragon Quest IV mobile on and off lately, I think it’s time for good old Torneko Taloon to be my profile picture. When I got into the main series games back in 2010 he became a quick favorite of mine.

      The Dog of Zahan

While I don't like his standalone chapter in IV (I have quite enough experience as a retail drone without simulating it in an RPG, 10-Q), I love what he does in battle in the original game. Best secret weapon against the final boss is when Taloon trips and does a double-crit on them!  He's a good fella.
