  1. I'm starting to wonder how hard a no job class run of DQ7 would be. I feel like Melvin and Aira would be very crucial since Melvin has Midheal and Aira has a number of useful skills under her belt. Maybe the next time I play DQ7 I'll try this out and see how it goes.

Yeah, there are a ton of pieces of gear with spells attached, and more of them are useful to your quest than in previous releases. DQ7 is also notoriously easy when it comes to resistances and bosses. Problem is, the best negative status effect is Sap, and only Maribel has access to it.

Then there's Dazzle. Dazzle is another Maribel only. Sadly, when the end-game comes around, Maribel has to be switched out, as her spell pool isn't as worthwhile as Aira's skills, or...

    3. ignasia

...or Melvin's, nevermind the obvious differences in stats for this sort of playthrough.

Retaliate could have a lot of use in the endgame on the PSX version, though. Not enough to make up for her other deficiencies in spell and skill options, but it was something.

  2. The 5th DLC character for Smash Ultimate is Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I’m excited that they have a moveset based around all weapon types from Fire Emblem and I’ve liked Three Houses, but I do kind of wish it was a new IP character again.

Piranha Plant wasn't advertising anything. Considering she was announced along with Ken and Incineroar before the game was even released. Which makes me believe that she was intended to be in the initial release of the game. She isn't part of the fighter's pass either.

Interesting you refer to the Piranha Plant as a she.

      Gotcha lol. Its all good.

I just refer Piranha Plant as a she. Since that is how the Smash community references her. Not sure where it all started.

  3. I've lost the motivation to play any games. Nothing seems interesting to play. Anyone else ever have that problem?

With movie adaptations, I take them all with a grain of salt since they can drastically be different. I take them as there own thing, though I completely see where you're coming from with all your points.

  4. So far I've got the following: Vivi = TastyBob, Amarant = Dildor, Zidane = RegulJim, Garnet = Knife, and Steiner = SueEllen. Still looking for suggestions for Eiko, Freya, and Quina! Even if you haven't played Final Fantasy IX, I'm open to any suggestions for the final 3!

I actually have the digital version of SMTIV on my 3ds right now, but never played it. Are you saying I should give it a shot??

    4. YangustheLegendaryBandit

      YangustheLegendaryBandit

Yes. IV Apocalypse is a continuation story of IV, starting up around the time the Neutral route is coming to a close. It's an entirely new game set within the SMTIV universe. From my understanding you can play Apocalypse without knowing IV's story and characters, but it will help out. Plus SMTIV is a fun entry in the series. Little hard in the beginning, but once you hit Tokyo things smooth out.

  7. Geez, I didn't think it'd be such a challenge to find a copy of Bravely Default. Every seller on Amazon has the game kinda high in price for a new or used copy. Granted it's been out stateside for 2 years now, but I figured it would still be common to find.

I no not what this "Humanity level," is, but I feel it has something to do with posting here. I'm sure the cockney bandit fellow will be pleased with this. 9. Hey for those ? shards in DQ7, are there any you can get locked out of once you get on disk 2? I'm having a terribly hard time getting some of them, particularly the one you get from the Nun and the alter she's near. What bloody nun are they talking about?

Also, for any who might be wondering, I've decided to postpone my "Yangus's Thoughts" on VII until I'm finished with summer classes next week. Sorry for the delay, but I figure that way I might be able to include the bonus dungeons into my Thoughts if I complete them.

  13. Alright, because I'm completely indecisive about this, let me ask you all the following: should I continue my streak of completing games I need to, or start a new game? The current game on the former's chopping block is Etrian Odyssey I for DS (at start of 4th Stratum) or Persona 4, while on the chopping block of the latter is Final Fantasy IX. I've had a new copy of the game sitting on my shelf for nearly two years now.

    2. ignasia

      ignasia

The problem is that Ninja was only fantastic in the NES version. In all remakes, he's only slightly superior to the Monk and WW. Then you hit level 50...and watch your Black Wizard suddenly skyrocket...crazy.

Though definitely, they reduced his HP growth. You CAN save scum however, if you want optimal level ups each time.

Heck, there was one game my Fighter had 300 HP at 25.

    3. YangustheLegendaryBandit

      YangustheLegendaryBandit

Red has caught up with everyone else in terms of HP. He's still in last place for HP right now, but he's over 160 at level 16, so that's pretty nice.

My white mage is sitting pretty at 240 HP at level 16. I think this is the highest HP total I've had on a white mage when playing FF1.

    4. Stepchan

      Stepchan

      @Ignasia

Yeah, the fact that the INT bug also made both the Red Mage and Ninja have the same damage output as the Black Mage spell wise(when comparing the same spells they can learn) really weakened the Black Mage's usefulness in original version.

    3. YangustheLegendaryBandit

      YangustheLegendaryBandit

Oh I'm not a newbie to DBZ. I watched it and DB as a young'un, but I never really gave them my full attention and didn't really see everything in order. Now that I'm older and all that junk, I want to give the series my full attention.

Perhaps I should've mentioned that way sooner, so my bad lol. I've always liked Dragon Ball as a whole, I've just been terrible at remembering non-main/one time characters. The games and a buddy of mine have helped draw me back to the series.

Etrian super bosses do have patterns you can learn and plan around, it just might mean changing your party setup entirely. We had a discussion on super bosses in the series not that long ago over on gamefaqs, and most agree that the one who is really 100% bullshit is Primeval. Special mention to un-chemicaled Warped Savior in 4.

There's a dimension for that...in your imagination...imaginaaaaation...imaginaaaation....imaginaation....imaginaaaa'aaation....or however it went, but once you're there, it'll be waiting.

Unfortunately in my imagination, even while eating pizza on top pizza in a flying saucer hovering over a leaning tower of Pisa inside pizza bagels stuffed into pizza pockets, Hunter X Hunter is still on hiatus, and Dragon Quest X is still unlocalized.

  20. Wow, the demo of Bravely Default really didn't do the full game justice. I'm only a few hours in, and I'm enjoying it very much. It has one hell of a soundtrack, too. The over world theme is good stuff.

      Erdrick The Hero

You cannot fathom how special it would be to me to have correspondence with Yuji Horii. He is one of the few people I look up to in this world. Unfortunately, I can barely read Japanese phonetically (hiragana/katakana, no kanji), so even if there was a way to contact him directly, there's a bit of a language barrier still. I'm sure he knows some English, but as I understand, in Japanese culture it may be considered rude to attempt to make such correspondence in foreign language, even if it comes from a place of gratitude.

All that said, it's a testament to the greatness of Horii's work that I can even phonetically read Japanese, as I would never have been driven to try to learn the language at all if it weren't for the Dragon Quest series.

That I did not know. It's possible. EO2 is considered the least favourite in the series as a whole. That and Japan has seen a massive hit to their economy of late, and they're still reeling from non-recovery since the 1996 crash. It's a dying economic system. Though given their xenophobia, it's likely to affect the outlook on releasing outside Japan (this is one reason I think we're having so hard a time with DQ when we shouldn't).

The only lag I’ve found in the games is if the games already had lag problems in their original releases. For example, sometimes in Super Mario World if a bunch of stuff is on screen at once (such as Vanilla Secret 2 when all the spinies start to show up), that will still have the same slow down/lag the original release did.

So there IS a Sim City 2000 for the SNES.  Sadly it too doesn't use the mouse.

It's a fairly faithful emulator.  To the point where even Super FX chipsets do work properly, or chipsets that use other special functions (like Star Ocean and even Tales of Phantasia) do work if the header and footers are original and not tweaked or removed.  Some work if they're tweaked specifically for this system to allow those special functions to work right...which is interesting reading up on people getting certain games to work and most having no success without special patches (due to bad rom files or etc.).  Not suggesting you fill up that extra 300 MB of space or anything, but if you were to do so Yangus, the bulk of games do work, some do require tweaks unless you have a truly clean original ROM without any errors of any type...and some actually do need a patch regardless.

With that in mind...at some point I need to make a retro pie.  What is interesting though, is the current NES one uses the same board and emulator chipset.  Probably to keep production costs lower, and probably due to the chipsets being very programmable and cheap.
