A blessed Easter and Eastertide to the forums!

@ignasia I was referring more to the usual objections to Yule Logs and the like. To me a cultural tradition can feed into the definition of catholic (small c), that is, universal. Let's pretend for a moment that the tilt of the Earth was opposite on our calendars and the Northern hemisphere had a summer Christmas. I would love to light off fireworks and have a BBQ with a keg of beer after morning Mass.

@JaybirdC I know. It just so happens I learned about this from browsing some about Orthodoxy. I find it interesting that there's enough attachment to the Latin Rite of Catholicism that Western Orthodoxy became a thing.

@JaybirdCI'll PM you some links. As it stands the SSPX ironically now have more jurisdiction to give a valid confession than your typical priest thanks to Francis. I'll PM you some links.
@ignasia During my various inquiries I once read that the Orthodox Church (which was once in communion with the Catholic Church) allowed people to hold local customs and basically "adopted" them as Orthodox. I believe it was a Western Rite Orthodoxy page that blatantly admitted that. Since this likely was before the 1054 East-West Schism, you can lump what we now call the Catholic Church into that. Unlike more "Puritan" denominations, we typically have a positive attitude towards local traditions. Some of those traditions had pagan roots no doubt. You should read about Personal Ordinariates for a modern example, although that brought Anglican tradition directly into the church, nothing "foreign".

The FSSP have a parish in Nashua NH, almost 2 hours away. They split from the SSPX in 1988 when the SSPX ended up in an irregular situation, hence their Masses are identical and fully within diocesan structures. Rome and the SSPX have been talking for many years and things are about 90% reconciled. I only do SSPX on occasion because permission has been granted to attend their Masses and because it is the easiest EF one to travel to. Every priest offering Mass there has zero trace of hostility towards the Vatican. In fact, one priest gave a sermon on not judging others and said "Who are you to judge Pope Francis?".

She wanted to go to a Latin Mass today, but we were up very late from the vigil, all the Latin ones are at least an hour away, so next week we'll either be doing either FSSP or SSPX. Since learning that an Eastern Catholic Liturgy counts for an obligation, we are also planning on going to a Melkite Catholic Church at some point.

Happy Epiphany! I've been playing Heroes II again and keep finding new things to amuse me. I like Jessica's & Angelo's shared quest, because the idea of these two giving romantic advice is ridiculous.

Merry Ninth day of Christmas (and Memorials of Sts. Basil the Great & Gregory Nazirean)! Except for you weirdoes on the east coast.

Freakin’ YouTube’s algorithm spoils the hell out of Dragon Quest XI if you aren’t careful. Or even if you are. I was trying to show a work buddy a cutscene from the game, and the recommended videos showed stuff like “Hidden reference costumes!!!!!” and #$*! like that.
Do people have no consideration for spoiling stuff? If you want to make a video about that, fine, but make your damn video thumbnails not reveal that stuff!

Anyone’s orders ship yet? SE Store hasn’t shipped out my order yet and it’s dangerously close to the release date. I almost thought they canceled it or something but the charge is still on my account.

Had to put down my wife's pet ferret yesterday afternoon. Needless to say I was not all to well at work tonight (it's just barely the day after). Is it normal for people to get more sensitive with age, because I've never cried in public except at funerals.

I love posting serious responses with a sad Happy avatar.

There are some strange topics from 10 years ago on the Den if you look hard enough.

Almost done with highschool! The last 2 months was a nightmare. Not hard or anything, just agonizingly slow. I want freedom dammit! But in other topics, I hope to get my driver’s license this summer. I was also thinking about starting a campaign to get Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 3 localized since Reggie said that the 3DS will be supported into 2018. I don’t have the details nailed, but would you be down for something like that?

I'm really interested in playing FF VI. What's the best way to play it? As in, the best system or re-release.

I obviously know why it's dead today but it's been a long time since I've seen the site so inactive.

It's official, Donald Trump has won the election! Cheers to this new turning point in American history, whether for better or for worse, though I'm banking on better.

Still playing Tales of Symphonic, which is a surprise, seeing how I have a hard time warming up to non-Pokemon RPGs. Maybe it's because I've discovered the true benefit to setting everyone to auto: my thumbs don't have to suffer during long grinding sessions.

Although I still prefer turn based, I do admit I enjoyed ToS a lot.In a pinch you can still issue an order to someone else, hence when my wife and I played, we constantly had Raine cast nure. No way we were losing to a certain former party member, although we had him rejoin. That of course, lead to a sad moment.
