  1. I actually have to recommend any version except the PS1 version. Dracula X Chronicles (PSP), Castlevania Requiem (PS4), or the mobile port (iOS or Android - only 3 bucks, but, for the love of all that is holy, use a controller. The touch screen controls are AWFUL).
  2. If you haven't played Symphony of the Night, make sure to put it on the list. Frankly, I don't think it deserves quite the praise it gets, but it's pretty good. It's the first Castlevania game that's like the GBA and DS games. The Castlevania series is my favorite game series. By chance, did you get the full ending in Aria of Sorrow?
  3. In my opinion, Portrait of Ruin is the weakest of the DS games, but it's still very good! The GBA games... Well, Harmony of Dissonance was my least favorite of the Metroidvania-type games. Circle of the Moon was good, and Aria of Sorrow was great. When Dawn of Sorrow was announced as a direct sequel, I was very excited. Play Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow in that order if you can.
  4. I remember watching my little brother die like that when he was a little kid. It was hilarious. He cried.
  5. I also use Urborg with Filth in my graveyard in a different deck.
  6. I did something very similar, but also ran Crusading Knight and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and Pestilence.
  7. I don't think he understood the question, but to answer, yes, via FTP the R4 is able to backup/inject saves and as a plus it can even make game backups.
  8. That feeling... Is this... Regret? I had high hopes of this version coming to PC as a cheaper DLC pack or having it replace vanilla at no cost (no, I am not actually that naive, just a bit of an optimist). If I was trying to buy the whole enchilada at full price a second time I would have just got the Switch version. On one hand, I would like to purchase this on release day to show support for the series... On the other, if I wait long enough, it will go on sale. What a pain.
  9. True, it's not the most important thing, but it is the mistake I see most frequently with new builds that won't boot.
  10. Building a PC is a pretty straightforward affair. Just make sure to seat the RAM all the way.
  11. Using the correct buffs and debuffs as needed is the difference between being able to basically push right through most of the DQ series or having to stop and intermittently grind for levels. That's just my experience though, YMMV.
  12. Concerning the DQ8 demo, people were able to get it in the US by pre-ordering from... GameStop, I believe. It may have still been Babbage's at that point, but the mall I used to frequent has been demolished for years now. Hard to remember such a small detail. In any event, Canada didn't initially have access to the demo so I sent mine to a guy in Canada (strangely I remember his real name, but can't remember what his username on SlimeKnights was). After a couple of weeks the demo was made available to Canada via SlimeKnights.
  13. It does seem silly to be able to make an extremely detailed character just to hide it under armor, but, the time spent customizing it, especially if you can get it to resemble you, can give the player a deeper connection with the character before the game really even begins.
  14. Not sure how far you are in IX, but you can get a pretty tasty equipment advantage doing grotto maps. I didn't run in to any financial difficulty in either game... Of course, strategy plays a role in that as well.
  15. I binge read the hell out of Dai's Adventure... 11 or so years ago. I happened to time it nearly perfectly coinciding with the fan translation finishing. I remember waiting for the last handful of chapters with baited breath, every day I had to wait was torturous (thankfully they were getting translated pretty quickly!). I used to really enjoy shonen stories. Sue me.
  16. The original Dai no Daibouken anime stopped at approximately chapter 87 of the manga. There were 349 chapters of the manga. There was so much story to go that I'm not terribly surprised that they just started over again. The change in picture quality and animation techniques have significantly changed over the years as well... there would have been a pretty significant difference if they just picked up where they left off. Have you played the Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 games? They're quite enjoyable hack-and-slash games.
  17. Dragon Quest VII (PS1 version) is one of my favorite games of all time. The 3DS version is pretty decent, too. The overarching story and all of the supporting vignettes are pretty damned good. If anyone said it's boring or bland it's most likely due to a general dislike of the Dragon Quest series. The class system in the PS1 version is amazing.
  18. We know how Platty feels about Maribel... She is already in an ornate display case in his room!
  19. I would imagine after defeating Dragonlord the game changes the encounter rate to 0. Since you're no longer supposed to be in possession of the Silver Harp, this would be the ideal way to handle the situation. Alternatively they could have loaded a set of maps with no monsters set, but why waste the memory to do that when you can just turn off encounters, you know?
  20. ... That would have a dismal completion rate. I'm for it!
  21. ... A procedurally generated T'n'T board that you can save to replay or share via StreetPass/tagging? Maybe you are on to something...
  22. Honestly... I love this and don't want it to end. It's the best thing that has happened to me since my daughter's birth. I am getting paid to stay at home and take care of a lot of things that have been neglected for too long. I am getting time to play games. I am getting time to do online school work. I am getting time to spend with my significant other. Most importantly, I am getting time to spend with my child. I really couldn't be happier.
