  1. I did the $88 dollar one as well. I have a contest idea for best original game and so set up a quick free site and forum http://nesmakerclassics.webstarts.com/ and well will see what comes of it, I won't be winning. I have slowly but surely been learning 6502 from a fairly good book I found online. I was sure I'd get to make a basic NES game but doubted it would be too advanced, with this and some 6502 anyone should be able to make a half decent game, and with some work I do believe some great new games will be made. I am going to restart and complete my DW 1.5 game which has sat since we made the RPG Maker game. And I spent years on a game for O.H.R.RPG.C.E which is 80 percent done, it will be redone and improved as an NES game, with all copyright material removed from it. Am interested to see how they figure out the music. I learned to make decent midi music but this is different Joe says... Probably the only kickstarter project I'm ever going to back. Really surprised it hasn't been done sooner. *** I guess I lose enthusiasm for things quickly, I cancelled my pledge. Sure it will be a fun little program when its released but I should probably do something more productive with my time than nostalgia, and it didn't seem I was too welcomed with my idea of a contest with an entry fee. I guess things on the internet should be free.
  2. I liked 1984 but probably not in my top books. Recently I read The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared. I can highly recommend it, the movie is good too but different. I am currently re-reading a series I haven't read in 20+ years. The Riftwar Saga of books by Raymond Feist. I then plan to read all 40 or so of his books, I've read about a dozen long ago. Hobbit and Lord of the Rings of course. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is great. The 6 volume Clan of the Cave Bear series is near the top of my list by Jean Auel. The DaVinci Code was fantastic but the movie sucked a lot! I got through Don Quixote book one and enjoyed it, book two is supposed to be better. Duncton Wood sprang to mind, amazing story of moles or shrews or some rodent. HP. Lovecraft, am slowly working through the complete works of his. Have had long time plans to read the complete Shakespeare but so far have only managed to get done Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, and Macbeth. Read most of the Cantebury Tales. Right now I' half through a large 6502 Assembly manual. Actually quite a good read in itself.
  3. Anyone else backed this project? I have high hopes for it. The documentary The new 8-bit Heroes is also worth checking out.
  4. I don't know which would be best, VIII would impress the most I'd say because of the graphics and overall polish. I just gave my nephew his first DQ game and it was IX because all he plays I think is DS and it was the easiest and cheapest to obtain. He also got a 16" large plush slime to begin his Dragon Quest adventures.
  5. Downloading, looking forward to playing it. Am hoping the mess of a game I've been puttering at on and off for 5 years is done this winter! Cheated on some of the music but am happy I created... 60 % of it and 70% of the sound effects. I chose something different than RPGmaker and that will limit the overall game. Hope everyone had great holidays or still are.
  6. I wonder if anyone ever played this through?
  7. Opps, wrong place, all gone, better now...:S
  8. They are called Sword of, Helm of, Shield of Lone Metal Slime and I am wondering if they are from a game? I think there is Metal Slime stuff, King Metal Slime stuff, and Liquid Metal Slime stuff... is Lone Metal one of these or something separate? http://img.amiami.jp/images/product/review/094//FIG-COL-1631_14.jpg http://img.amiami.jp/images/product/review/094//FIG-COL-1631_12.jpg
  9. I just finished not too long ago the main game and after 10 grottoes am tired of them and of the after game stuff. Clocked in at 125 hours. So I waited, lucked out, got a new DSlite for $20 and DQ9 used complete for $20ish. A few things I disliked were things like too cartoony and cutesy of monsters which is DQ so that's that. Some of the music could have been a little more adventurous sounding... the magic train which I knew before the game came out would sort of bother me but in the end I enjoyed it. Didn't mind being able to see the monsters on the map, liked them chasing you if you caught their attention and fleeing if you're a higher level. I quite liked the freedom of the handheld and the graphics were fine. I liked that you could see what your characters were wearing, something I've asked for for years, a little thing but I liked it. Could it have been better? Yes. Was it the worst DQ game? Well.... looking at the series progression... I have a soft spot for each entry, 7 felt clunkiest and most repetitious. I did the game solo up until Gittingham Palace and then when I did add members only added 2. I like the idea of being able to do solo or party but prefer if your party consisted of (optionally for the most part) other game characters which join and leave and sort of have a back story and not no name things you create. Part of the enjoyment of the other characters is their personality and back story and that they join you for their own benefit as well. Catch what I'm saying? The grottoes were disappointing and lost their fun very quick. One thing I'd do... each area would have it's monsters and the monsters would breed or respawn, however in dungeons, towers and so on once you clear a level it stays clear until monsters once again make their way in. Also you'd be able to wipe out monsters in wild areas as well making it safe to travel, if the wild area has been cleared of monsters they'd be unable to then move in and occupy dungeons, towers, etc.
  10. I got whooped by atlas my first meeting in a level 70 grotto. I only have three heroes, I did my quest with one hero up till getting squashed at Gittingham Palace. Then I added two more characters and finished the game with three and am finding little enjoyment in the grottoes. So I go to another grotto Copper World of Bane level 66 and find Atlas at the end. So I thought here comes another ass kicking from him but I followed my plan and here is how my fight went- Level 89 Minstrel - Erdrick's Sword, White Knight's Shield, Dragon Warrior Helm, Sacred Armour, DW trousers, DW boots, DW gloves, Ruby of Protection. Past classes - Warrior lv 46, priest lv 25, Mage lv 30, thief lv 24, ranger lv 32 Level 46 Sage - Dragonsbane, Silver shield, Spellward circlet, sages's robe, crimson gauntlets, seabreeze skirt, sandals, meteorite bracer, Past classes - Warrior lv 20,priest lv 17, mage lv 48, thief lv 28, minstrel lv 25, Level 63 Priest - Uber Miracle Sword, Etheral Shield, Mercury's bandana, enchanted armour, heavy handwear, transparent tights, sandals, gold rosary past classes - Warrior lv 20 , mage level 17, thief lv 28, minstrel lv 25 turn 1 Gigaslash Kabuff Gigaslash turn 2 Gigaslash moreheal heal turn 3 Gigaslash kabuff Gigaslash turn 4 Gigaslash Multiheal Gigaslash turn 5 Gigaslash Multiheal Gigaslash turn 6 Gigaslash Multiheal Gigaslash turn 7 Falcon Slash Kazam Multiheal turn 8 Falcon slash Miracle slash * multiheal and so on... I did throw in a few other things* miracle slash, back atcha, coupe de grace (spelly breath) not needed, blockenspiel, and by the end was just attacking with my priest for hits of about 70. After I ran low on MP I just did Falcon Slash with my minstrel from turn 7 onward. Lasted till turn 16. No deaths, if I had better used my attacks and heals I think I could have done it in a couple less turns. I now have Erdrick's Helmet to go with the sword. Have finished Granite Tunnel of Woe lv 1, Gold Path of Dolour lv 25, Bronze Tunnel of Regret lv 33. Bronze Path of Woe lv 37, Basalt Mine of Doubt lv 50, Copper Crypt of Regret lv 58, Platinum Nest of Regret lv 60, and Copper World of Bane lv 66. I think I will try the Gold nest of Gloom lv 70 (think that hd Atlas as well and thats about it for me and DQ 9. I have 120 or so hours in it and loved it. Played on and off for several months but logged a lot of hours this past month. Am going to pass it on to my nephew.. he's 11, not sure if it's his thing but perhaps. I will tell him for every quest he completes I'll give him $0.50. I only finished 26 of them and 10 grottoes so I will give him $1 each grotto.
  11. Yes a wrestling fan of sorts. Been watching since I was about 5, nearly 30 years with the exception of a couple years I took off here and there. And last month I had my first event, I've started a small all women's promotion. www.facebook.com/IWIWrestling there is a website but it's very rough at the moment. Big plans, little money.... interesting dilemma leads to creative thinking. Will be available soon I hope.
  12. Here is a recent pic of myself at my first wrestling event with Leah Von Dutch. http://www.facebook....&type=3
  13. This was a test shoot for the costume... had problems other than it wasn't warm enough for that afternoon.
  14. Hmmmmm, no disrepect to any fan artists from Japan, but as an artist who puts things on the internet I have to say this. Unless someone is making money off my art or claiming they did it then I don't care. Even if they're saying they did it I don't care, I doubt it would happen to me. Also I try to put my name on everything as well which none of them seem to do which is frustrating. As pointed out this was many years ago and links don't last forever. Had I not saved these creme de la creme of the pics (lots were crappy) I'd have never seen any again and not been able to share them with others on occaision. Now they were originally put on the web I would guess to be shared and I am not claiming to have created them and am not profiting so .... if any artist is offended, I am sorry and confused by it. Lessons to learn. Put your name on things. If you don't want it seen don't put it in a public place. If you want something then save it and make backup copies and hard copies and put them in fireproof safes encased in carbonite. Fanny Goldberg did not originally release Friday in 1932. Was sadder learning that than learning Santa was imaginary.
  15. Ok, many years ago I went through Japanese google searching for Dragon Quest, draque, DQ, and the like images. These are fan pics I saved from various places long ago.
