  1. This month's Daisuki TV has been announced. It will start at 9pm Japan time (That is 5am Pacific Daylight time) Friday. This month they will have Riku Sanjo, the original author (of the author artist pair) as guest. He will be discussing the upcoming Avan Spin Off manga that will be running in VJump. There will also be a question and answer portion. If you have a question for him and a Twitter account you can ask him by sending a Tweet with the hashtag

  2. Here is the first of the interviews.

    Riku Sanjo

What was it like hearing that there was to be an anime adaption the first time?

I was surprised. Kind of like, "What, you can make an anime of it?" This was because, at the time the popular works in Jump would normally get an anime adaption, but I thought that "Dai" could not be an anime since there was the original "Dragon Quest" productions that it was based on. Then, once it was decided, I was shocked at the unusual speed that everything progressed. But at the time besides writing the script for "Dai" I was also writing articles for Jump, and I was writing the articles about articles about other anime so my impression was just that "My work has kind of increased". I was spending the whole day at the Jump Editorial department so it did not feel that difficult. My entire workload was too much. I was young (laugh).

How were the meetings between you and the anime staff for things like script writing and series composition?

We often had meetings with me the producer, the director, and the script writer discussing the larger direction of the story. Particularly I would do things like offer suggestions for things like new characters for content that was not in the manga such animated movies. It is at this time that I met Nobutaka Nishizawa, who years later I would meet up with again when I did script writing work for Toei Animation. When I was young, the animated movie that I found the most provocative was "Mazinger Z tai Ankoku Daishōgun". So I was very excited to meet and talk with it's director. The contents of the movie "Shinsei Rokudai Shoguo" highly reflect those emotions.

At the time that the anime was aired toys were also being sold, and things were exciting across various media.

I liked character toys from the start so I was touched to see the characters for a series I was involved with lined up on store shelves. In discussions with the toy producers, Takara (Now known as Takara Tomy) I was asked, "Sanjo Sensei, is there any type of goods that you would like?" So I said I would like something like the Star Wars figure line that was sold overseas. Since Dai is a party battle manga I wanted to keep the taste that "everyone is the main character" and wanted a toy series that had a lot of side characters released. After hearing this they made the "Adventure Hero Selection" toy series, which is the one I am most fond of. It is the only one that has Hadler and his 6 Commanders in color. I excitedly explained to the person in charge "There is even a toy of Carbonite Frozen Han Solo" which I think even now was the hint to the Frozen Leona campaign (laugh).

In the anime (Both TV series and Movies) please tell us an episode that you most closely empathized with.

The memory that is most vivid is the first movie. Since we were attempting trial of "anime debut through a movie" I collaborated with the staff as we puzzled over everything starting from the plot creation. If we started from "Derupa! Iruiru!" like in the manga then we could not show Dai's heroics. If we did "Dai Explodes!!!" then the final boss was a bit weak. So to deal with these sorts of issues we had the evil idol if Hadlar as an original feature to the anime, mixing elements from the one shot stories and the serialization. With the addition of Toshiko Fujita's lively voice to the finished work, I remember feeling extremely touched watching Dai moving around. This is the only animated work of "Dai" that has not been released to any home video product before, so along with my personal emotions it makes me especially happy.

Please give a message to the fans who have purchased the Blu-ray Box.

Everyone, thank you for the purchase. I thank you from my heart for not forgetting Dai over all these years, and for taking this Blu-ray Box into your hands. It's been so many years since the original broadcast, and we jumped over a laser-disc and DVD release (laugh), to go straight to a Blu-ray release. It is kind of like "Dai" to do that, and I think it is thanks to all of your continual support. Please keep your emotions over from these 30 years running, and continue to support the developments of "Dai". I am counting on you.

  3. Mine just arrived today. It is a thing of beauty. The box feels nice, thick and strong. The booklet also isn't just some flimsy extra. It is well bound and glossy. I will probably translate the interviews in it some time soon. The restoration is gorgeous, and it is fun to see the small flaws in the animation that were not obvious in the subpar video release (Not to mention that the video tapes I owned were all from Japanese video rental stores selling their old stock) and smaller TVs.

  4. Well as nice as a physical release with subtitles would be, a Netflix translation would be better than nothing. So I do hope that those English descriptions are a sign that Netflix will put out a version for North America. It would be nice though if we get a more conventional Anime company for a North American release of the upcoming anime though.

  5. This is before log in, correct? Try without the VPN on. The VPN is only needed once you reached the login screen. Hopefully you will reach the log in screen that way. If that does not work, you might want to try disabling your firewall and seeing if that helps.

  6. Do you have the ability to add any more fields to the sign up page? Just a question like "Type the number one thousand " [_________]

can work as a Turing test to keep out some of the Spam Bots (assuming you can check that the answer always has to be 1000 or 1,000).

  7. Do the graphical updates just come out at the same time or are we required to purchase Version 4 for the updates?

The graphical updates are supposed to be out on September 6th, so before version 4 is even out.

Ah so you really only need one update registration code between the PC and WiiU. Since you have someone else who actually purchased the update software for you on the PC, it saved you from buying it. Too bad the PC update software isn't freely available or else I could do the same thing between my Switch and the PC.

I would lend you mine if you were near by, LOL!

You could look to see if there are cheaper used versions online though.

Looks like there will be a new class

    Druid it is

Am I the only one who thinks that the guy in the black armor looks like an older grumpy version of the hero from DQ11?

  8. I won the Jackpot myself today!

I have made it past the halfway point so the game no longer will give new spells of resurrection.

I reunited with Rou and Sylvia. I really enjoyed meeting up with Sylvia and the parade. I checked out the PS4 version and compared the scene, and you get a much better hug in the 3DS version than the PS4 version. Kind of turned me off from the PS4 version. All the colors also seemed so much more muted and the character expressions were not as expressive. I also have been really enjoying Sylvia's theme music. In general the music in the game has been good though they are reusing some tunes from previous games more times than I think they ought to. I am really slow at progressing the game. I don't know exactly what it is I do that makes things take twice as long but I am at 60 hours in the game. Before I had to put the 3DS back on the charger I met up with my zombie father and I am either in a dream or the past. I was glad that the priest let me save there since the battery was flashing at me.

  9. Yes, both the PC and WiiU will be getting improvements in their graphics. Because of that they have changed the base PC requirement specs for the PC http://hiroba.dqx.jp/sc/topics/detail/5129a5ddcd0dcd755232baa04c231698/

For most people the need for a registration code and the software go hand in hand but in my case I play both on the WiiU and the PC so I purchase the updates for the WiiU and borrow my mother's disc for her PC updates for my PC version. This kind of sharing only makes sense if you play on more than one system.

  10. You can't play version 4 on your PS4 without version 1-3 on the Playstation 4. The registration code from the PC version may work so that you could borrow 1-3 from a friend or buy it used but as the PS4 is a separate monthly payment from the PC/Nintendo monthly payment I would not be suprised if it requires you to own a new registration code for the PS4 version for 1-3. Version 4 is an expansion pack you can't just buy it and play the game without the other disks.

  11. Wikipedia doesn't seem to indicate that:

    • Version 3
    • Wii, Wii U, Windows
      • JP: April 30, 2015
    • Version 4
    • Wii U, Windows, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch
      • JP: November 16, 2017
Without being able to cite an actual article I'm not confident in making any wiki updates.

You are confused. Version 4 has always been scheduled to come out in November. The all in one package (versions 1 through 3) came out in Japan "today" as scheduled. http://hiroba.dqx.jp/sc/topics/detail/9c19a2aa1d84e04b0bd4bc888792bd1e/

  12. Hi, second time trying to login, i got an error message that gave this web link. Anyone gotten this before?

Edit: The error code is DQ-10009-W when i try to launch the game. Googling this error message people seem to be discussing about connecting online or about a firewall. I have VPN running I used a website to make sure, I am online, I have Windows Firewall off, I'm not sure what else to try?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The support website says that you might be having trouble with your firewall or security program on your computer blocking you.

  13. You gather Yocchi as you travel around the map. They appear randomly scattered about. So far all the ones I have found normally have been good enough to get me thorough a map. You can't use higher rank ones that you get from street pass until you advance far enough in the dungeons to use them anyway so at least early on I don't feel much need to street pass.

As soon as I got the boat I started wandering every place I could that I knew would not advance the story. I was happy to be able to make it back to my home town. Now at least I have it in my Rula list. I battled Kandata for some black pepper, and I found the battle with him to be one of the most challenging I have had up to date. I was only level 20 at the time, and I might be falling behind on armor since crafting can make better armor than what you can buy I hold off purchasing anything in the hopes that I can get the recipe soon instead. I have now made it to the town with the martial arts competition, but the battery on the 3DS once again reached its limits for now.

  14. I have reached the part that they showed in the gameplay videos and the demo's that they had in Japan. (Going to go and fight the giant scorpion). I have ran across 3 metal slimes (2 were in the same battle) and have managed to defeat all of them. Either I am using up all my lifetime supply of luck or they are not running away as much as they normally like to. I did manage to defeat one with a critical hit, which was exciting since I have not had many critical hits so far playing in general. For the quest where you need to find the golden cactus it also showed up my first battle with a cactus after taking the quest, so I am thinking that maybe today is just a lucky day for me.

Resurrection spell for where I am in the game now is:

    だばか ざせり ずずべす

    かぬの ぐひな ま

I'm watching a stream and the hero, the little girl (in a cat suit!) and the blonde mage all have different outfits. Does all armor reflect on character in the game or something?

At least in the 3DS I have not seen any armor reflected in the normal character animation. A few times for the story it has changed though. After having escaped from jail I wore a scarf around my head for a time. Kamyu and I wore a light cloth outfit for the steam bath house.

  15. I have seen various gameplay footage and it looks like Homer, one of the two generals pursing XI's Hero, uses devious underhanded tactics to defeat him, like tying up Camus before the 1st fight with him, and summoning a Tentacular (Even though we haven't seen it in X yet) to wreck the getaway ship. Plus he uses Zam spells, and that, along with the stuff I've mentioned, kinda foreshadows that he's the underhanded of the two Declore generals and XI's demon lord underling or the demon lord himself, just human and kinda like Kefka, in the fact that both try to hunt down the main protagonists, and use dirty methods to try win battles, contrasting their more honorable comrades (General Leo and Griag). Just throwing it out there.

I have not made it that far yet, so I can't say who is evil at this point. But they say he is the "brains" of the duo.

  16. With DQ11 having come out today, I figured we needed a thread for us to share our gameplay.

I pre-ordered the 3DS download version so that I could play the game as soon as the clock hit midnight in Japan. I happened to have the day off so I have been playing since it came out (except now the 3DS needs to charge). I decided to not use a DQ1 or DQ2 spell code for my first playthroughh since it seems kind of like cheating. At 3 house I have finally made it to the opening animation. For now I have chosen the 3D version, the mix of the two was really nice for getting a good view of the map.

The spell for where I am in the game now is:

あけじ らどべ にちぎと ぐらじ げやお ゆ
